As I get older I’m finding that a lot of the “intellectuals” I used to admire are actually just condescending and pretentious. And also realizing how much more important it is to be present, considerate, and empathetic because nobody really knows what they’re talking about and anyone who claims to know everything about anything is feeding you bs.

Everyone’s like “those Germans have a word for everything” but English has a word for tricking someone into watching the music video for Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.
English has a lot more words created for very specific phenomena! It’s not just rick-rolling. Language is always evolving and it’s super interesting! Here’s a list of hyper-specific/untranslatable words in English.
This happens a lot with compound words in particular. Seriously, the construction of English compound words is so fascinating; just what you’d expect from a mongrel creole fucked-up language. And here are some more English-Specific verbs.

Why exactly do you hate Noam Chomsky?
I don’t hate the man on a personal level. Our encounters have been entertaining so far.
What I do hate:
The fake linguistics with theories and models that are not even meant to work.
The almost religious personality cult surrounding him.
The unscientific and arrogant dismissal of empirical facts that do not fit some theory.
His bigotry about being a pacifist but living off Army research grant money for decades
