Quick bonus for the last sickle art I randomly forgot to post
The camera zooming into Rolin laughing at this part specifically during the DM line read š Which, apparently, is exactly Rolin's type of humor:
Throughout S1-3, to quote Snequanimity:
"Armand, we are constantly told, was a catamite. He's a twink bottom. He was a limp, passive ragdoll for sale. His daddy groomed him into a little bitch. He's emasculated, a beige pillow, his sexual performance is so-so, he's desperate and needy, he's a pussy and a betaboi. In short, he's too gay, not Lestat's ideal of a masculine bisexual man. like this is some kind of corruption of character, being the receptive partner in anal sex"Ā
Recently, ONE journalist has FINALLY commented on this
and that's because the journalist himself is a gay Indian man:
Fareed clearly signed up to take part in some medical malpractice but didnāt realise he had agreed to work with Jigsaw.
Assad Zamman is out there serving face all day and night for NO ONE to call him beautiful, or even hinting at it, this season despite it being one is character's defining traits im gonna end it all

Love the dedication of Armand always wearing the highest high waisted pants that he can find
Armandās beauty is directly proportional to how insane heās acting
i think the narration structure of tvl was very messy, with the documentary and the tapes crossthreading, and losing track regularly of lestat's limited perspective. in s1-2 there is a present, and theres retellings, and theyre two extant settings that we switch between and which interact. the limited perspective of the retellings have clear boundaries.
taking s3 and fucking those boundaries is a great idea. but the way they did it was messy, and we have a complete absence of a present - seen as more objective - to trouble the retelling. if there had been a tidier framing device to distinguish between lestat's POV and a more objective POV, a lot of fuckery could have happened with scenes getting told and re-told in rapid succession, rather than vision and revision in order as we saw in iwtv. voice over that doesnt match up with the picture on the screen. some very fun editing stuff that speaks to experimental cinema for decades thats played with that disconnect. coulda gone found footage with it or smth idk.
instead its just quite handwavey, with too many pots half boiling, and they dont even use the voice over much at all
so they introduced the concept of daniel making a documentary with lestat, only for them to use it as a storytelling vehicle in one episode (really effectively!!) and then completely abandon it.
they presented so many different narrative framing devices this seasonāthe failures tapes, the documentary, the concert stops, the songs, the āmusesā as baby jenks said in ep 1, the long table/examining of the failuresāand none of them were exercised consistently enough to be effective. they introduce those concepts then abandon them in the very next episode. s1&2 thrived on the structure of the interview, s3 sorely lacked that kind of structure.

ASSAD ZAMAN as ARMAND Interview with the Vampire (2022 - ) 3.07
People are already doing the whole āhow long is Armand going to use his trauma as an excuse?ā thing which was predictable. They were never going to try and engage with him. The goal posts were always going to move.
Firstly, none of them are aware of exactly how extensive this trauma is. No regular person could handle a tenth of what heās been through and remain a functional person. Now add 500 years of being trapped in that state with zero comprehension of just how youāre supposed to engage with it. Iād be worse personally.
Secondly, does he do that? Heās aware of some of what heās been through, but itās never really been used as an excuse. He certainly is trapped in his victimhood, but does he consistently use specifically his childhood as an excuse? That would require more awareness than he has. He does what he does, and gives his reasons, does try to play up how much of a victim he is in that specific situation but it isnāt like he weaponises his trauma. Other people weaponise his trauma, but he doesnāt have the ability to do that. Iād love to see therapised Armand weaponising his abuse because it would mean he sees it but heās just not that guy.
Thirdly, as far as his fans using that trauma as an excuse goes, Iām sure there are people who do that. On all sides, there are people who try to defang the characters to make them more palatable but I would say for the most part, people who like Armand like the ugly parts too. Itās why heās interesting. If he went through everything he went through and came out the otherwise pure and kind, it wouldnāt be believable, especially when vampires are inherently evil, but it would also be incredibly dull. Itās not an excuse. Excuses are a waste of time. Itās understanding the framework of these characters, their inner logic, why they do what they do. Armand has remained one of the most popular characters in both the book series fandom and the show fandom for the entire time both have existed because his inner workings are so fascinating. Heās about twenty different layers of twisted and the result you get from that is a character so unique in his madness and his evil that I donāt think there are words for him in modern psychology yet.
Letās be beautiful as fuck while I put my ex through a saw trap
