Jimmy: So, everyone, what does a story NEED?
Grian: A character!
Martyn: A setting!
Pearl, a gleam in their eyes, in a near-whisperL REVENGE.
DOUBLE POST TODAY Because i'm posting a redo of an old chapter as well. These may become a common thing :>
Redo of the first chapter! Second new incorrect quote will be out later!
This is set in their highschool years, all siblings.
Jimmyâs whole class had been told by their English teacher that he had to go home and explain what made a good story to his family. For homework. And whilst most kids werenât going to do it, Jimmy was DEFINITELY going to do it. What if the teacher asked his siblings? And they would totally rat him out.Â
Anyway, Jimmy had forced all 3 of his siblings to sit in the front room and listen to him. Grian, 16, had zoned out ages ago and was just tapping his knuckles on the table. Martyn, 19, did not want to be there as he wasnât even in school anymore, but Jimmy had threatened to cry. So. Pearl, 13, was apparently loving it.
Jimmy, 12, had been ranting about what a story needed for the past hour. And finally decided to test if his siblings had been listening. âSo, can any of you tell me what a good story NEEDS?âHe hummed, waving his hands around dramatically. After no one responded, he picked on the first one he saw, which unfortunately was- âGrian, you go first!â
Grian, realising he had been called upon, shot his head up, after a couple of seconds and processing the question he responded, âAh. Characters?â
âYes, Very good! Martyn?â
Martyn, as quick as always, had been listening the whole time, âA setting.â
Jimmy smiled, happy that at least one of his siblings was listening to him. âAh, see itâs not that hard guys! Now, pearl-â Jimmyâs sentence stopped as he stared at the girl. âPearl.?â
The young girl was smiling like she was on a sugar high, crouched over her paper as she doodled down what seemed to be a character plan, completely unaware of what was happening around her. âPeeaarrlll! Were you listening to me?â Jimmy complained, yelling at her.
She looked up at the yell, âOf course I was listening!âAfter a couple seconds, after realising they were probably waiting for her to respond to Jimmyâs earlier question. Which she had not heard, she added. âWhat was the question again?âÂ
Jimmy sighed sadly, âWhat does a good story need?â The girl responded immediately with no hesitation, âOh, obviously every good story needs some REVENGE!âShe giggled madly to herself. Oh yea, they definitely needed to get their sister checked out for.. Something. No way she was completely sane in that head of hers.
After a few minutes of silence Martyn stood up, â-Right, Well I think thatâs enough for one day. Jimmy, we will tell your teacher you did the homework.âHe patted the boy on the head as he left the room.
