Q: Can I Track Trust Funds in QuickBooks?

A: Absolutely, although there is no protection from overdrafting a client’s Interest on Lawyer Trust Account (IOLTA). The book provides guidance on how to track client accounts to ensure this does not happen. There should be one bank account and one other current liability account on the Chart of Accounts for each physical IOLTA. To facilitate reporting, every transaction in these accounts must include a Customer:Job. Details on handling all the different types of transactions are provided.
