hohkay here goes. i will try to keep this relatively clean but there may be some suggestive mentions and some things like sex work brought up. Characters Within...
(also this is an 18+ project minors do not touch. reblogs are okay though if you think these characters sound cool)

POLKA DOT- she/her, the protagonist of Plaything and the main character the audience suggests actions for. she's a blue rubber duck with a brutal past she can't remember, a really hot temper and a tendency to be a ridiculous lesbian disaster.
she is kind of a cornball but has very strong friendships ever since arriving at Laurie's Place, a club that functions as both a hub for queer + sex work activity in the fairly violent city she resides in, and a place where people like her (referred to as newbies) can get their footings both in learning about how this world works and getting some income under the belt.
which brings us to...
LAURIE- not technically a main character but important for lore explanation. he/him, an old beanie baby bear-analogue transmasc crossdresser who runs Laurie's Place and serves as a fierce activist in this city. while it's been unclear so far in-quest just how bad the politicians in charge are, laurie has strong opinions on just where they can shove their ideology, and works extremely hard on creating a network of (primarily queer-owned) businesses and support systems to help support toys that need it.
TIMOTHY- he/him, scottie dog beanie baby analogue. tim is polka's first friend and a devoted one at that- when it comes to friendship and loving the people around him, he doesn't believe in half measures. despite this, he struggles with a deep internal anger he doesn't know how to understand yet, and does his best to hide it with a smile. works as a barista at laurie's.
WILLOW/CROSSBONE- she/her, a virtual pet similar to a devilgotchi. she can project the pixel character on her face as a secondary body, one she considers her true form- that she's not about to show to just anybody! a fashion model that works primarily with kink gear and lingerie, cross is shy and sweet, but with a bit of a devilish side. her and polka fall for each other quickly, but how far they'll go for each other has yet to be seen....
willow is the name she goes by as a pseudonym at Laurie's, but crossbone is probably how i will refer to her here. not really a deadname, just a secret.
DEVO- he/him, a beanie baby bear analogue. a quiet but strong-spoken bear with an interest in kink shit and potentially getting a career as a sex worker at laurie's, devo struggles with balancing his ambitions with managing his disabilities caused by past trauma. devo doesn't like talking about his time before laurie's to anybody but his best friend roulette and eventual boyfriend tim, but wants to work hard to make sure that no one has to go through what he's been through again.
ROULETTE- not technically my character so please correct me shivers if i botch this. it/its pronouns, roulette is a robot toy who serves mostly as an enigma to polka...but one from her past, undeniably so. it's hard to say what exactly roulette's deal is...but whatever it is, it doesn't want to talk about it. best friends with devo, fiercely protective of him, and showed up with him at Laurie's a few months prior to the story.
VINE- she/her, a beanie baby bear analogue who acts as a mentor figure for polka. vine works in Laurie's Place's kitchen as the head chef, and teaches polka the ropes of toy cooking from day one. she's old and wise but prefers not to be seen as a more parental figure, even if she dresses like a grandma.
OTHER CHARACTERS
CINDI- they/she, an oversized horse plush (you know the ones, the huge ones horse girls go crazy for) who works in Laurie's kitchen, who loves to cause trouble with Polka. she sees the newbie duck as a challenge to her station in the kitchen, but ends up more as a combat mentor instead. it's probably just an excuse to punch polka, though.
KATIE- she/her, one of vine's partners and the bartender of Laurie's Place. she hasn't been shown much on screen, but she seems to have a bubbly personality and a fondness for gossip.
MARLOWE- he/him, one of laurie's support network advocates and creator of many helpful pamphlets, including guides to the city itself, being a newbie, and dealing with sexuality and kink for the first time. a panda beanie baby analogue, wears a lot of fancy clothing made by his partner, featherweight. kind of snobby, but in a way that makes you want to gossip with him after the initial intimidation. he will have the dirt.
FEATHERWEIGHT- he/him, a stork beanie baby analogue who works as both a tailor and fashion designer. he thrives on making kink gear and bespoke pieces, but refuses to charge high prices for the community he works in. works with art galleries as well on textile sculptures, though that's more of a side gig. very friendly, but somewhat macabre once you get to know him.
WANDERER- also not my character but i will try. she/her, written by zenthis, an old, mysterious amigurumi plush covered in angelic wings and an excess of eyes. no one knows where wanderer comes from, as her name implies- but she seems to be well versed in just about any knowledge you can think of. actually getting it out of her may have a price, however....
MIASMA- he/him, not much is known about this guy! one of laurie's lovers who throws lots of parties, sort of a "girl's toy" analogue somewhere between a MLP toy and a carebear.
SADDLER- he/him, a one of a kind art doll who exists so far only on billboards and hushed whispers. word on the street is that he preys on newbies and uses his political power to cover it up, a sobering fact that chills polka to the bone. involved with Devo's past heavily, and is blacklisted from Laurie's as a result.
okay going to try very hard not to be self conscious about this but. our interactive project Plaything is going on a two week hiatus, after which we will be launching into a horror-themed "campaign"-like adventure, which we need as many suggestors as possible for. this project is possibly the most self indulgent thing we've ever made and is already novel-length, making it the longest project we've done. we have a LOT of plans for this thing and it's going to get fucking crazy, so if you're interested in checking out an 18+ project that has:

this project is really long so i am probably going to miss some shit while listing things off, but i'll try and touch on the main warnings. eventually i'll set up a proper static page on the HD site for this, but here you go.
plaything has these topics come up as major themes, but are not there for sexualization purposes:
violence, toy-based gore, sexual harassment/violence + physical trauma that results, abuse of political power, ableism, and CSA.
things i do not consider content warnings but you should probably be aware of them:
detailed expressions of sexuality, kink content including but not limited to: weight gain, feeding, vore, BDSM, transformation, and lots of stuff related to toy-based designs.
there is no sexualization of childishness in this project, and all characters are adults.
i think the thing about like, the typical Cishet Anime Dude Horny is that its incredibly shallow. and so when that type of horny gets applied to something it sort of... raises whatever it touches to the same shallow depth. you see it most plainly in female characters getting reduced to cookie cutter archetypes, the exact same "big titty, small waist, big ass, vacant stare" look that they give to any woman they wanna fuck regardless of who she is or what she actually looks like. and you can also see it in how they reduce men to Chads Who Fuck and Virgins Who Don't (there are people out there who self-insert into Jaune RWBY as some megachad who fucks hard, which i think illustrates the absurdity of this shallowness)
contrast something like dungeon meshi, which is INCREDIBLY horny, but with a huge amount of depth. dungeon meshi asks - isnt it hot, to consume, and to be consumed? here's a hundred different ways that its hot. isnt it beautiful? isnt it horrifying? isnt it loving?
the story as a whole wouldnt work if it wasnt deeply horny for eating, and none of the characters would be the same if that horniness was taken from them. its about the depth of it. without depth of horny, it wouldnt be half as good
IM GOING TO CRY THEY MIGHT INCREASE THE SSI ASSETS LIMIT TO $10,000.
it's a bipartisan bill too! and for anyone unaware, people on SSI (which is different from SSDI), can only have $2,000 in assets (unless they have an ABLE account, which comes with its own rules). this assets limit has been in place for FORTY YEARS and is a giant part of why being on SSI keeps people incredibly impoverished.
i've also heard they might remove the marriage penalty but i don't have the spoons to read or explain it so someone else please add on!
