Meet the cape golden mole (Chrysochloris asiatica)! Despite the resemblance, this critter is not a true mole. Instead, scientists consider golden moles to be part of the superorder Afrotheria, which includes elephants, hyraxes, and manatees! True moles are part of the superorder Laurasiatheria. Weighing about 0.1 lbs (0.05 kg), the cape golden mole spends most of its time underground, inhabiting tunnels that can be 656 ft (200 m) long. It hunts insects and small invertebrates by sensing their vibrations beneath the surface.

Explanation: Is there an angry Sith using force lightning in the Tatacoa Desert? This is not science fiction, but a red sprite with multiple streamers! Ordinary lightning occurs when thundercloud particles collide, lose their electrons, and build up negative charge at the cloud bottom. The cloud’s negative charge repels negative charge deeper into the Earth, leaving Earth’s surface positively charged. The opposite charges attract, reaching towards each other and superheating the air into a white strike of plasma. Red sprites are millisecond events triggered by positive cloud-to-ground lightning. They extend up into the mesosphere where the air is too thin for thunder. Their red glow comes from heated molecular nitrogen. There are several potential causes for red sprites, including that the preceding positive lightning exposes the negatively charged cloud core to the positively charged upper atmosphere, allowing those charges to connect. NASA’s Juno has observed sprites on Jupiter, indicating that sprites occur on other planets!

Shortcuts to determine if an integer is divisible by:

This is a given.

If the last digit is divisible by 2 (a.k.a. even), then so is the whole number.

If the sum of the digits is divisible by 3, then so is the whole number. The recursivity of this means that if the sum has multiple digits, you can add them up again until you get a single digit and see if it's 3, 6, or 9.

Like the rule for 2, but check if the last two digits are divisible by 4.

If it ends in 5 or 0.

If the rules for both 2 and 3 apply.

No shortcut. Alas.

Like the rules for 2 and 4, but check if the last three digits are divisible by 8. (Yes, this pattern keeps going for 16, 32, etc.)

Like the rule for 3, but the sum of the digits (or the sum of the sum of the digits, etc.) must be 9.

Huh... ohhhhh, okay, I was having trouble getting what you meant at first, but now I see it! So, for example:

14, double 4 is 8, the rest of the number is the 1, 1 − 8 = −7 (negative results must still count because if the positive is divisible then so is the negative).

21, double 1 is 2, 2 − 2 = 0.

28, double 8 is 16, 2 − 16 = −14, already proven.

35, double 5 is 10, 3 − 10 = −7.

245, double 5 is 10, 24 − 10 = 14, already proven.

Okay, yeah, that checks out! Neat, thanks! That is a weird one.

It’s a biological fact that fish do indeed change their sex to keep the male/female ratio balanced in their school population. So this fluidity actually makes more sense from a scientific standpoint than the silly idea that merfolk are born with a strictly assigned sex like humans.
