For context, she originally tried to hide that Captain Carol Freeman is her mom, and Admiral Alonzo Freeman is her dad. Many people assume she enrolled under her Mom’s maiden name to that end.

Show runner Mike McMahan named her character after his sister, Beckett Mariner McMahan.

In an interview, Mike Mahan said that he plans to explain why she doesn’t share a surname with her parents - but he hasn’t yet.

Right now there isn’t a cannon explanation.

I’ve been thinking if she was just trying to hide the family connection, it would have made more sense for show writers to drop in a line about her name when it was revealed that Captain Freeman is her mom, or when Admiral Freeman is her dad. Why wait?

Star Trek needs more translator jokes, I need a character to say an absolutely nonsensical string of words and another character to compliment them on their pun, the absurdism potential is endless. Darmok does not even get close to fulfilling me

I genuinely believe Archer would be 10X better as a character if he was exclusively gay. The character he had the best sexual tension with was Shran and it could have gone somewhere interesting. That awful episode were he’s into T’pol wouldn’t exist (I fucking hate that episode so much). Also then Porthos being a dog would be more he likes dogs then the StrAit mAnly MAN ShOulD hAve ManLy Pet that it so clearly was, like I love porthos he’s fun but fuck why is is there a dog in space get a cat or at least stop letting him run around on planets you know nothing about
