What vibes Magnus Archives characters give me.
Jon Sims - A librarian who comments on the book you're checking out both positively and negatively, and can somehow guess whether you're going to love it with just a look.
Martin Blackwood - An overly friendly waiter who is lovely but makes it a bit hard to eat because they stop by to ask how everything's going every five seconds while your mouth is full of food.
Tim Stoker - The most intense relationship you've ever had, the high's make you feel something no else can, the low's also make you feel something no else can. You aren't sure if this is the best or worst relationship you ever had, but it was beautiful and doomed and gentle and fleeting all at the same time.
Sasha James - Talking to a friend, not knowing factually it'll be the last time you speak, but knowing subconsciously that it'll be the last time you speak because the vibes have changed.
Melanie King - Dying your hair at 3AM because you "need a change," then spending on long on it that you end up watching the sunrise. (And not even liking how your hair turned out.
Georgie Barker - Walking through the woods and jokingly saying to your friends "Look out for bigfoot!" They all stop and look also in on the joke, but there's a small childlike piece excitement that hopes that maybe, just maybe this outing will turn into a cryptid spotting.
Basira Hussain - Sitting in a dentist office, that's as sterile as all dentist office's, but has some art on the walls. A dentist call you back with a rushed tone and cleans your teeth with intense efficiency, they don't even small talk before finishing up and ushering you out with a nice goody bag.
Daisy Tonner - Kudzu. These plants that are invasive where I live, yet they grow the fastest and are often the first to spring out. They reason it's invasive is because it smothers the local vegetation and damages buildings. Despite that It's pretty to see, but that doesn't change that it's aggressive and invasive to the local ecosystem.
Peter Lukas - Reading a book with a book light during a power outage, in a storm. You're trying to enjoy it but lighting keeps shaking your house and the walls are creaking.
Elias Bouchard - An internship position where the boss will give you the workload of someone's worked there for twenty years and is paid much better than you are.
Gertrude Robinson - Going into your parents photo album and finding a picture of them doing something cool in their 20's and being like "who the fuck is that?"
Gerry Keay - A stranger at a gas station who asks if you have a cigarette, then nods you off without another word when you say you don't.
Hezekiah Wakely - Finding worms as a child under a play set.
Jane Prentiss - That itchy feeling after being in a garage
Agnes Montague - An ancestor that you look like but will never get the chance to meet.
Jude Perry - Going into a tattoo shop and the artist saying "I don't give prices up front and I want full creative control over my work."
Oliver Banks - Sitting on a pier on a cloudy day.
Jared Hopworth - Planet Fitness's cancellation policies.
Distortion Michael - A friend you fell out with that you don't think about, but they still sometimes vague post about you on social media.
Distortion Helen - A passive aggressive family member who clearly doesn't like you but feels like they have to talk to you because you're family.
Nikola Orsinov - That one episode of a cartoon you watched as a kid that was so scary it stayed with you forever.
Michael Crew - Those storm nights where a tornado hits a town, then get put under a tornado warning right afterwards.
Simon Fairchild - Meeting a stranger in public who drops their insane lore out of nowhere then walks off, never to be seen by you again.
Anabelle Cane - A moment that you can't remember if it actually happened. Maybe it did, but maybe you saw it in a movie, or dreamed it, or even have deju vu for something never happened at all. The brain is weird that way.
Basically, I'm really interested in the possible differences between the real Gerry and Gertrude's memory of him that she wrote down in the book, of course it was very accurate because of The Eye, blah blah, HOWEVER, possibly hot take, I think there was a difference
Gerry not wanting to help Jon, I know that you can talk about him being in a ton of pain, etc. but just, the way he says "the world changes in horrible ways... For YOU", as much as I love the line, I don't think it fits him much, he wanted to help people, remember that random person he saved from The Lonely during his vacation? He didn't have to do that, I don't think it would do much for a ritual, he just wanted to help, and with one of his only actual lines being criticizing ignorance? Why would he want to be ignorant towards all these people who could suffer hell because of The Unknowing? (They wouldn't, but as far as I'm aware he didn't know that) Was he just bluffing because he wanted Jon to burn his page? He never seemed to put himself before others like that, HE SHOULD, but I don't recall him doing that, I don't think we ever even get a scene of him doing something FOR HIMSELF
Is this anything or am I sleep deprived and trying to dig into the dynamic more with no new content? Tell me of this is bs
[Jongerry (semi) swap au! A bit of written prologue of sorts that continues into a comic. Hope this isn't too jarring!]
He had never wanted to see that book again. She had been in it. Gertrude said she'd dealt with it, and he'd seen the remnants of the burnt page shown to him.
But he needed to make sure she really, really wasn't there anymore. That she would never be anymore.
He flipped the book to the last page, something he'd done so many times that he had lost count. Relief flooded as that familiar page that haunted his waking life wasn't there.
And just as soon as the relief settled, he felt his stomach sink. There was a new page in this book. One much more recent than his mother's. Someone had bound a new page to this book in the time since his mother was released not too long ago.
He read the new page aloud.
Monster Manual Jon AU
just here to say that gertrude robinson is the single funniest character. she is THE character. she dies before the show even starts. shes an old lady that adopted an edgy teen and traveled the world. She is the avatar of one of the fourteen elditch horrors that feed on primordial fears, she had basically infite knowledge of everything and her plan to stop one of the rituals of a cult of another one of said list of eldrich horrors was to blow it up with a bunch of c4. we only find out about this because she stored all of the explosives in a random storage unit and the aforementioned edgy teen with mommy issues (who by the way, is dead, but when he died she sneaked into the morgue to put him inside a book) speaks through the book to the woman's succesor who, by the way, has no idea what the fuck is going on because neither she nor anyone else has bothered to explain shit to him, and tells him that she kept something important in the unit. we only find out about this after 100 episodes of the show. She feeds her subordinates to an all consuming monster/god, but its ok i guess. Later on (earlier on? at the same time? in a different timeline? after?) the literal end of the world and the end of the end of the world shes back and still has to deal with this stupid teenager who at least doesnt spend half his life focused on dyeing his hair and the other half about finding murder books (not as books about murder but as in, books who actively murder). She is a well experienced arsonist despite having no affiliation with the actual official arsonists club that is yet another cult to yet another one of the previously mentioned eldritch horrors. She is, however, metaphysically tied to the Chosen One, the Messiah of said cult, or some shit. She is absolutely terrible at her actual office job (on purpose). She dismembered a guy (who was her assistant) and probably commited several undocumented crimes against humanity. Once again, she has all seeing abilities and barely noticed her favorite assistant was torturing a coworker. She dares her murderous boss to kill her and gets surprised when he does so. When asked what to do about a literal Monster Pig, her advice is to encase it in cement. She was such a bitch. Her plan B was always to set things on fire. Her plan A was often to set things on fire. One of these instances was approved by her boss (the one who killed her). It is canon that the reason she started all this shit in her life was because the fire cult killer her cat. She sacrified another one of her assistants who became an avatar of the literal concept of Insanity but it was just a other thursday for her. She knows on a first name basis pretty much every person and monster affiliated with the eldritch horrors that she tries to keep at bay on the daily. She stopped a ritual for The Lonely by making the place a tourist destination. She has an ebay account. Instead of performing a ritual for the God that she was affiliated with, she wanted to destroy it and planned to 1. blind herself, and 2. set fire (yet again) to her workplace. It didnt work, because and her boss, who was also the one who was going to perform the ritual, finds her right before and kills her after she says he has no balls to do so. Also she is voiced by the mother of the main character's voice actor (who he named with his own, full, legal name) and the series' writer, which are the same person. Shes the worst, shes the best, i love her, we will never get anyone like her again, we need more characters like her.
we don’t talk enough about how gertrude stopped the ritual of the lonely by getting peter lukas cancelled
i love how tma introduces canon vampires and immediately glosses over them. yeah we have vampires here. who the fuck even cares. we’ve got bigger fish to fry jonathan
pov: you try to call your enemy gay as a joke but he is actually gay
op you can't just post this without including what jared says literally immediately afterward
#pov: you realize you have just been homophobic to the literal antichrist and realize you are going to die very soon
Gerry Keay’s final statement
You ever think about how Gerry and Gertrude were probably each other’s last ditch, desperate effort to have any kind of connection that didn’t end horribly?
If any of you need a tag for your cosplay, feel free to use mine :D just tag me if you post them anywhere. And pleeeese show me your cosplays 🙏 I'm soooo curious of them
And here are the reverses (the spiraled one is for Michael)
Enjoy :D
"oh but it's unhealthy!" DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO FIND CANON FOUND FAMILY IN MEDIA??? (I count their tmagp cameo as canon, shut up) LIKE, OKAY SURE THEY'RE BOTH UNSTABLE AND DON'T TRUST EACH OTHER AND SHE HID FROM HIM THE FACT THAT HE HAD CANCER AND ALL
BUT HEAR ME OUT, WITH ENOUGH THERAPY SESSIONS WITH A GOOD PSYCHOLOGIST + SOME VISITS WITH A PSYCHIATRIST, THEY COULD MAKE THIS WORK, I AM NOT LYING TO MYSELF
I love the line "the real world seemed so ignorant, I could never be a part of it" SO MUCH UDFUFUCUUFUFFYFUUCUV
Because he knows he's different from the "normal" people but his solution is "so I tried to find my place in my mum's world" BUT IT'S WRONG, THERE ARE SO MANY BETTER, HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES THAT HE COULD BE A PART OF AND AGAIN, I UNDERSTAND THAT HE'D WANT TO KNOW PEOPLE FROM THE PARANORMAL COMMUNITY BECAUSE OTHERWISE HE COULDN'T BE HONEST ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCES BUT STILL- I PROMISE YOU THERE ARE BETTER PEOPLE THAN YOUR MOTHER AND THOSE OF HER KIND OUT THERE
Pairs of intersecting lines
(Yapping under the cut)
Just had that thought but what if, as we know Gertrude was aware of Gerry's brain tumour and didn't warned him in time for him to get better not because she was cruel, but because he was marked by too many entities and Elias started looking towards him for the rite of the watcher's crown? And Gertrude being Gertrude she does what she does the best, sacrifice her assistants to prevent the apocalypse.
thinking about the Gertrude/Agnes and Jon/Gerry parallels again
imagine a person that completes your fucking being and you only get to meet them once. imagine the one person who can truly understand you and won't judge you for the awful thing the world is trying to make you into, and you don't even get to spend a full day with them.
imagine hearing/reading about this person for years, getting to know them through stories of them and what other people have to say about them. then you finally, finally get to meet them and it's everything because they're right fucking there. And you have to let them go
fucking archivists and their homoerotic Person They Didn't Get To be With
