relating to this blog: Umbrella Academy is only one of my honestly overly numerous fandom obsessions, but it's definitely one of the biggest ones. I was hounded by Pinterest into joining the fandom. yes, that's literally how it happened.

five hargreeves is the unfortunate recipient of my affections and therefore the one i spend way too much time beating to a pulp and then analyzing his reaction. i'm sure you can all relate.

What is the *weirdest* reason you’ve ever seen someone dislike an anime?

Every so often I think “learning new things is hard. How can I get good at this skill/know this knowledge/perform this art when the gap between where I am and where I want to be is so large?” And then I realize. I do that all the time with no fear at all, no worry about inadequacy or failure. Because what is entering a new fandom if not learning something I did not know before? What is entering a new fandom if not gathering new knowledge, committing more lore to memory, gathering new names and faces???

Not to get too deep about fandom, but what is it if not the one form of learning where we don’t fear inadequacy, and instead know we will be accepted regardless of our achievements?

FUUUUCKKK dude i just realized i totally missed five day was yesterday. it was literally 5/5 and i missed my opportunity fuckkk

always devastated there was no mr. pennycrumb and five interaction in the show because having a dog really fleshed out comic!five and would have fleshed out show!five SO much.

the key difference of "five was genetically altered to be perfect at killing" in comic!five and "five was forced to kill and it jaded him, made him angry on top of his already angry and sarcastic tendencies" in show!five is very influential to how their siblings see them as people.

comic!five is the ruthlessness and the love of killing that show!five's siblings see when they look at him. and yet mr. pennycrumb shows us there is still a soft heart in there.

however, show!five doesn't actually enjoy killing and was never genetically altered to be good at it or to enjoy it. he only does it for the sake of his family, his family that he very rarely opens up to or shows his soft side to. in the moments he does, it's usually a smile or a very angry remark at how they could have been killed, sometimes even "threatening" to kill them himself for being stupid when he's trying to protect them. and i genuinely feel like mr. pennycrumb could have been the thing that shows people who only watched the show that five IS soft, that five DOES care, he just can't express it to his siblings because he's too emotionally constipated to even try. the thing that visualised his softness and his care and his love had to be nonhuman, whether it be delores, mr. pennycrumb, or both.
