Did you know this SMART Fact? Cigarette use is higher among LGBT+ communities. LGBT+ youth smoke cigarettes at a twofold rate compared to straight peers. Research suggests there is an association between tobacco use and academic achievement such that students who engage in tobacco use were more likely to receive lower grades. Our #WCW today is Tina Chow, an influential fashion icon from the 70s and 80s. She became an AIDS activist after many of her friends died of AIDS-related complications. According to research by @CDCgov, a person living with HIV can take medication so that they reach an undetectable viral load. When an individual living with HIV becomes undetectable, there is effectively NO RISK of transmitting HIV during sex – in as long as they maintain adherent to their medication, which means they continue to take their medications as prescribed by their doctor. I was in my mother’s bedroom when I told her, “I’m taking a trip with someone.” While she’s putting on her earrings she asked, “With your boyfriend?” It’s quiet for a couple of seconds.
