I kept thinking Look to windward was just "look to windward" which is actually a book by Iain Banks
According to Wikipedia it has cat centaur three hind legged aliens. It's about war and suicide missions and missing those who have died
It's part of the culture series has anyone read this book or the book series? Do you think it relates to the series?

any aids of any sort from speech aids to mobility aids to whatever aids you need are allowed
no matter how “bad” your situation is or isn’t if it will help you in some capacity you’re allowed to use it
even if you use it rarely
even if you look completely abled aside from your aids
even if you’re plus size
even if your disability is “your fault”
No matter WHAT it’s allowed, ok, and encouraged
have a wonderful day friends, take care of yourselves!!

Coming from a person going to school for special education teaching I double agree with this statement.
Aids of every kind are needed for people with disabilities. People are frowned upon or stared at or not accomadated because they use aids like a talker or special glasses or a walker. It makes the "if" (they will be able to do something) impossible. You are barring them from being independent. Having a life. Being treated like a human.
You would give kids allergy medicine because they become super sneezy and sniffly when they are outside right? Then why won't you let someone with wheelchair (even if they can walk) have their wheelchair within a place?
(Bad analogy I know but I can think rn)
Any other AAC users of any kind have recommendations on how get use to using it more in real life?
Have very unreliable speech and verbal shutdowns and am trying be okay with using it more while I need instead of being ashamed with myself. If anyone could tell me how get more confident would be appreciated :3 I have aac app and communication cards made
More info about my speech below cut if interested! 👇
hi friend!
use to have frequent verbal shutdowns, now i am totally unable to speak and here is how i desensitized myself!
1. practice by yourself! imagine you’re having a conversation with someone. practice finding the words for (or program in the words for) small talk eg “hi” “how” “are” “you”
2. baby steps! start in places that you’re more comfortable. this could be with friends if that makes you feel supported, or with strangers (like talking to clerks at a grocery store) if the anonymity feels safer. after you feel a little more comfy with doing that, you can try things that feel harder.
3. be your own cheerleader. you found the words you were looking for? you typed a word? you even opened your device and looked at your boards? you did AWESOME and i’m so proud of you. this also means you have to:
4. be a stick in the mud about your needs. someone’s tapping their foot bc you’re taking “too long”? that’s tough buddy, they gotta wait. your words are importnat and valuable and everyone needs to hear what you have to say.
if you have any other questions i’d be happy to answer them! i hope something good happens to you today!
Using these tips later for when I become a sped teacher and/or SLP
much to ponder on my thinking pillow

Hey kid, look at me.
I want you to T-pose. Turn your right thumb up and your left thumb doen and look at your right thumb. Move your arms up and down a bit until you feel a nerve running from your armpit to your palm. Now turn your right thumb down and your left thumb up, and look at your left thumb. Keep your chest facing forward and your shoulders back. Move your arms again until you feel that nerve again. Keep alternating between these two for a minute, or look at each thumb thirty times each.
Now sit down. Put your left hand firmly under your left buttock, palm down. Keep your shoulders back and put your right hand over the crown of your head, very gently pulling it to the right. Do this for thirty seconds, then do it again but with your right hand under your right buttock.
These are stretches for the nerves in your arms, and are very good for people who sit behind a computer a lot, or fibre artists, or you name it. Do them daily. They will hurt in the beginning, but keep doing them, even after the pain has gone, or it will return and you'll have to start all over.
