thinking about the exalted march dlc concepts... wish we got to see him a little evil. a little possessed. perhaps save this damsel in distress from an envy demon. idk.
Forget "DLC", Sebastian's "Exalted March" plan in Veilguard should have been part of the actual plot in-game. And not just a throwaway joke. I mean, an Exalted March is literally the Chantry uniting every Andrastian across Thedas into a massive army and using that army to declare a holy war. Basically Thedas's equivalent of the Crusades, if the Crusades had a higher success rate. And maybe it's just me, but I sure think that a continent-spanning army of millions of religious believers would be a useful thing to have for fighting the Evanuris. Of course, that doesn't mean we have to endorse the Chantry in a narrative sense. Far from it; there's plenty of room for talking about the past Exalted Marches and the considerable harm they've done all across Thedas. It'd be like in Origins where the Grey Wardens are a cult that strips its members of life expectancy, fertility, and autonomy, but are also Ferelden's best bet against the Blight. That sort of cool ethical dilemma.
Sebastian could have been Veilguard's version of Duncan, where he recruits you to put the army of faithful together. Or at the very least, the Exalted March ppl could have been a faction Rook has to wine and dine like the dwarves, elves, and mages in Origins. Plus, using the Exalted March crew would create plenty of opportunity to explore how the world at large reacts to the truth about the Evanuris (and how it essentially disproves multiple religions in their entirety) coming out.
But no. Sebastian's just a one-dimensional repressed religious man to Veilguard's writers, a throwaway joke to mock and dismiss. And the writers clearly view the post-Arlathan world and its history in much the same way Solas does: as an inconsequential, unimportant thing easily tossed aside in favor of their larger goals.
