Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) was watching educational documentaries last night

No??? You can donate food that is given to people who want it. I haven’t heard of them being low on supplies. There has also been some food vendors there. But why would they be low on food ?? They are still in a city and people can come and go.

There’s been a widespread effort to start several lies about the CHAZ, including food scarcity and supposed chaos, but everyone I know locally who is there has said it’s all well supplied, calmly run, and feeling wonderfully supportive and communal.

Yeeeaaah, the Seattle Police Department has been running a constant disinformation campaign since we didn’t torch the police district like they wanted. They have been poking the bees nest that knows not to sting back and they are furious. So here’s some accurate first-hand information:

-The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone is only in name. The people inside do not want to secede from the US, only make it and the city of Seattle better. This zone is just a project to show what life would look like if we didn’t live in constant fear of police making us criminals to inflate their budget and private prisons

-Local businesses are not being extorted like the SPD claims

-IDs are not checked at the border. I mean, what database are people supposed to check IDs through if they were?

-There are no warlords. The pictures of protesters with AR-15s you are seeing are after the people banded together when they heard there were heavily-armed white supremacists and neo-nazis marching up to face them (hoax broadcasted on the SPD scanners since they knew protesters were listening in and wanted to cause chaos)

-You may have heard of someone declaring himself the king of the area. There was someone that attacked a white artist for spraying over a black artist’s work and made those threats in the moment. The attacker has apologized to the white artist since. He is not recognized as the leader by anyone in the area since there is no leader

-SPD says they were ran out of their precinct. In reality, they emptied the building and left it before walking away, leaving the protesters to just… have it

-There’s no border. People can come and go as they please. The only barricades are to protect people inside since a police officer’s brother drove in the middle of the crowd and started shooting protesters a few nights prior

-There’s a QFC two blocks in one direction and a Safeway in the other direction. Since everyone can come and go as they please, there’s no sense to run out of food or any supplies

-Restaurants and residents are happy to see so much foot traffic! Business’s doors are open for people to use their bathrooms. Some are even offering free menu items! And it’s a lot better than the constant gunfire and teargassing the police offered. There was so much teargas the previous night (after the mayor promised a 30 day ban on teargas) it got into entire buildings’ AC systems, gassing everyone inside

-We are still paying sales and property taxes since we are still a part of the city and the state and don’t plan to secede. The threat to power and water is foolish unless the SPD want to be extra cruel

-There are plenty of water and medical supplies. Everyone from different parts of the city and the greater Seattle area are coming together to volunteer their time

-Just imagine a regular street fair or music festival where people hold public round table discussions on how to improve the city and fight racial injustice

-Most nights, the people in there watch educational documentaries on the struggles of black lives in America

-And tonight we played dodge ball

Take Away: We are proving that the police as they are now, do more harm to American communities than good. Abolish the police and restructure the city/state budget to improve communities. Put health and growth of citizens first. National news (especially conservative outlets) are lying to you. They are reporting only what the police are saying. The police are lying because we are threatening their paychecks and their military toys.

Tumblr users are often so arrogant and it shows. They can draw a full cast of POC characters but when POC say "Hey we want more than just our skin tone" they're suddenly deaf as shit.

Representation on Tumblr has become a way for white people to win brownie points just because they took a Hershey's bar and slapped it onto a person's skin tone.

The most disgusting thing is that they insist on making JUST African-Americans. They insist on making JUST one facial type, one nose type, one lip type, one hair type, one slang type, one skin tone.

And when they make a person Asian, it's Japanese. And when they make a person Hispanic, it's Mexican. And when they make a person indigenous, they never specify on which tribe/nation they came from, but you'll bet they're Native AMERICAN.

But my favorite part is when other POC demand representation and those same fucking white people are like "But but but look at all my black characters!!!!"

POC isn't just confined to America.

POC isn't just black.

POC isn't just Japanese.

POC isn't just Mexican.

POC isn't just Native American.

It's from the Miskitu in Nicaragua, from the highlands of Ethiopia, from the deserts of Saudi Arabia, from the mountains of Indonesia. It's from the arroz con gandules, from the folk music, from the festivals. It's many cultures blending, it's speaking more than just English, it's dealing with racism unique to our countries of origin.

It's more than just one universal experience, and white Tumblr isn't willing to show that.

okay so to preface this, my hometown where i’m originally from is a really fucking weird place. like from the outside it seems like a normal suburban town, but once you’re there for awhile you get the feeling that’s something’s not…quite all together. a lot of people are really fucking weird there — so much so that that was a running joke in school growing up, that people in the town were just like that. everyone knew not to go out to the farm lands surrounding the town especially at night, we called it “the cuts” and people used to disappear out there all the time or get shot at by the especially weird people that would live out there. the news was and still is truly a thing of horror. every time i come back i’m regaled with even more stories of crazy shit that has happened there.

to put it in perspective we generally never had “normal crime” like robbery or anything like that when i lived there, though that did happen sometimes. the news stories were always like, “a kid was kidnapped by local residents and tortured in a house around the corner,” “a random person was chased down and shot for sport in a really nice neighborhood,” “someone was gored to death by a bull while out car shopping,” etc. (these are all real, btw). everyone does drugs and the whole town is located really close to a government site where they test nuclear weapons and chemicals and shit. this is how i grew up, in this bizarre environment.

i need to preface it this way so that you get that it’s weird. it’s a fucking weird place. i used to listen to the welcome to night vale podcast and make comparisons from it to my hometown, that’s how weird it is.

i only say this so you know that this town is where i got my orthodontics from.

all the kids in my town went to this one particular orthodontist. i also used to go to a dentist in town that a lot of people went to as well. i had a permanent retainer put on my bottom teeth after braces and no one had ever said anything to me about the model of retainer itself or it being weird type of retainer at all. i saw a ton of other people (mostly other kids that were my age at the time) that had the same type of retainer as me too so i never thought about it.

so i kept my retainer in — it’s never caused me problems and it keeps my teeth straight, why not?

however i went to a dentist for the first time in a metropolitan area now, and when he saw it in my mouth his literal first reaction was to say “uh can i ask you a question….what the hell is that”

which in hindsight makes almost too much sense. of course my town of all towns would put these weird unnecessary contraptions in kids’ mouths, and of course it happened so much that everyone just thought it was normal. that sounds exactly, to a T, like my hometown.

my permanent bottom retainer is apparently this prototype that is so rare that he’s literally never seen it before in his life, not in dental school, nowhere. it’s not that it’s an outdated type, it’s just rare as fuck. they were still staring at pictures of it on my chart in wonder when i left the office.

so just know somewhere out there, in a weird ass suburban town where they test nuclear weapons and a good portion of the residents go fucking nuts, there’s probably hundreds of people still walking around with this same contraption in their mouth that exists nowhere else in the world thinking, “yeah, that’s cool. that makes sense. let me go drink the definitely not-contaminated water now and never move away from here.”

Okay, so I looked into it and I think that the town is Tracy, California.

I looked up the bull-murder thing OP mentioned and Tracy seemed to be only town that came up with a matching case. Though the man didn’t actually die from his injuries everything else matches up one for one. So just to make sure that it was the right town I looked to see if there was any murder-torture of young people in Tracy, and unfortunately there was. It was a 17 year old boy who escaped and survived the torture. And just to solidify that it was in fact Tracy I looked up shootings in residential areas and there was one of a 20 year old man who was shot and killed in a nice neighborhood.

Okay, but I decided to look into Tracy more to find out more information about it and the town is super suspicious. There’s been a lot of murders and shooting in the town. Back in 2009 an 8 year old girl, Sandra Cantu, was kidnapped and murdered by a Sunday school teacher who said she had no idea why she killed Sandra. Another case happened in 2018 when four underage boys were shot and one was killed by four teenage boys. There’s a lot of news stories on shootings, homicides, and drug busts in that town. It’s a really cute town from the outside, if you just look up Tracy, California there’s a lot of really cute businesses and nice articles on sweet things that happen in the town, but if you actually look into it the town is really sketchy.

So yeah, this sketchy town with a military base, multiple homicides and shootings is maybe Tracy, California.

Hera - A wrathful goddess?

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Hera? Chances are, it is her relentless pursuit of Zeus’s mistresses and their children. That’s how many people seem to picture her: As an angry and bitter wife who has nothing better to do than to take her wrath out on others.

I say that she doesn’t deserve that treatment. Instead I want to argue that she is much less vengeful than people think. Let’s first look at some of the myths involving Hera and Zeus’s mistresses and children:

Io: Zeus turned Io into a cow to hide her from Hera. But Hera tricked Zeus into giving her as a present. She was later brought back by Hermes but Hera punished Io by having a gadfly pursue her till she broke down from exhaustion.

Leto: Hera banned Leto from giving birth to Apollo and Artemis on any land under the sun.

Semele: When Semele was pregnant with Dionysos, Hera visited her in disguise and convinced her to ask Zeus to reveal his true form to her. Zeus, who had previously sworn to grant all of her wishes, did as she asked and Semele, upon looking at him, was turned into ashes.

Heracles: Hera famously hated Heracles (better known as Hercules) and tried to hurt him at every chance she got, going so far as to strike him with madness which caused him to murder his own wife and children.

 These are not all myths of course, only the most famous ones. Let’s go through them one by one:

Io: Io’s punishment was severe but one must remember that she was also a priestess of Hera. Being betrayed by your own priestess is a very severe insult.

Leto: Leto’s children were destined to become greater and more powerful than her own so that’s why she pursued her.

Semele: Semele knew that she was pregnant by Zeus and maybe even prideful because he had promised her to fulfill her every wish. Hera turned that arrogance against her.

Heracles: Zeus loved Heracles more than the children he had with Hera. Still, Heracles’s mother Alcmene was never punished by her. And even though Hera hated Heracles, she made peace with him after his death and even gave him her daughter Hebe as a wife.

 Hera always had a specific reason for punishing them. And there are many other mistresses and children of Zeus she didn’t seem to care about at all. Among them are Europa and her sons, Danaë and her son Perseus, Antiope and her sons, Maia and her son Hermes, Dione and her daughter Aphrodite, Leda, her sons and her daughter Helen and Laodamia and her son Sarpedon. That doesn’t sound like a particularly vengeful goddess to me.

The ancient Greeks certainly didn’t see her that way. In ancient times, Hera was the patron goddess of Samos and Argos. Two of her temples at Paestum (in modern day Italy) still stand to this day.

 Mind you, I am not saying that my interpretation is the correct one and that all the others are false! If you don’t like Hera and/or you disagree with me, that’s completely fine.  She still does a lot of things in the myths that modern day readers might find very objectionable and rightfully so. But so do the other gods. And that’s my point: Yes, she can be scary and vengeful sometimes but she definitely doesn’t deserve to be reduced to “the jealous wife”.
