Is it just me or anyone has also realized that Aedion was probably supposed to be a king?
Like, before people realized Aelin is alive, during those 10 years, he was the only member of royal family that survived, so logically, (if) after the was was over and supposing Terrasen won its independence, Aedion should be crowned as king.
And there's no way he wasn't aware of that, even if we assume that the lords and not him ruled the kingdom during the war, he had to know that as the only prince he'd get the crown someday.
Yeah.
This post doesn't have any deeper meaning, I'm just pissed that Sarah missed many small details that would make the books more interesting and add personality to some characters.
I need to know Aedion's whole backstory, truly. He might be an asshole sometimes, but it doesn't mean he's not interesting. There's whole fucking 10 years of trauma and character development for this guy we were stripped off. Again, thank you Sarah, you really know how to make people's nights sleepless.
Now I'm gonna spend the whole night and the next day headcanoning Aedion's backstory, awesome.
I don't think he was ever going to be king by himself. He's a member of the family but not by the 'correct' blood. He's related to the Wendlyn/Ashryver side by blood but not to the Terrasen/Galathynius.
Despite that, I think if Gavriel wasn't his father and thus Meave didn't have a claim to Aedion, they would definitely consider him. He fought their wars, did more for Terrasen than anyone, the armies and the people love and respect him. Very few wouldn't want him for a king.
But as it is, Gavriel is Aedion's father and Meave's bloodsworn so if Aedion becomes king, not consort, she could decide that Aedion is 'hers' and try to control him and Terrasen.
And no one from Terrasen wants that. I imagine Darrow would do anything to keep Meave away from Terrasen.
If I remember correctly, it was mentioned that Rhoe wanted to wed Aedion to Aelin so Meave couldn't get him (and probably why only he and Evalyn knew Aedion's true parentage).
I always thought one of Terrasen's noble children would be considered for the next monarch.
Ren maybe, but most probably Elide. She's the heir to the second largest area in Terrasen and of noble blood, with magic.
Her father was best friends with Rhoe, she grew up in the castle with Aedion and Aelin. Her mother used to take care of Aedion and Aelin (the expected future monarchs) so she had the same upbringing as the queen they were supposed to have.
I always thought her uncle was keeping her alive and secret until the question of the next monarch came up (probably after Darrow's death or right before) so he could tell everyone his niece is alive and put her on the throne and rule Terrasen through her.
Hey! I saw your post about Aelin being jealous of Aedion. Can you explain that to me? I don't quite understand how her scowling would mean she's jealous. I'm curious!
Soo English isn't my first language and at the time I made that post, I don't think I was living in England, or it had been a short time. Now it doesn't seem like jealousy to me, but back then that's where my brain went š I think it was due to reading fanfiction where scowl and growl were always used to express jealousy or some other primal territorial alpha emotion š
This fic is about Aedion's mom and Evalin going to Doranelle to speak to Meave about Demi-Fae rights. Instead of meeting her nieces, she sends Gavriel.
Part 1Ā | Part 2Ā
āSo,ā started Evalin, still holding a knife, āyou met the Lion of Doranelle. Glaston will die with jealousy!ā
āMy brother was the last thing on my mind, Ev. Trust me.ā
Emrys chuckled. āThe Lion is quite handsome.ā
Eleanor hummed in a dreamy agreement. āAnd the rest of the blood-sworn? All Iāve heard of them are war stories from my father.ā
āThey all are. Some more than others ā or at least, in different ways.ā
āWho did Glaston like the most?ā asked Evalin.
āWhitethorn. He and father used to argue who was better ā he or the Lion.ā
āYou take after your father then,ā smiled Emrys.
āI have yet to meet Whitethorn. Though, we are cousinsā¦ā
āDistant cousins.ā
āI canāt listen to this argument again, girls. Chop your vegetables.ā
They prepared the food in silence, but Eleanorās mind kept going back to Gavriel. Sheād had crushes before ā tones of them. And not one of them had been as inappropriate as this one. Partly because of the age difference but mainly because she was now betrothed to another man. Lord Flavian Baldor was a close friend to the crown and one of the biggest food suppliers in the kingdom ā he was ambitious enough to rise even more in the hierarchy, and Eleanor had no doubt that he would use their marriage to achieve just that.
Emrys seasoned the food as it cooked over the slow fire and Evalin nudged her with her shoulder. āStill thinking about the Lion?ā
āNothing in particular. Just⦠wondering what it would be like when I marry him.ā
āIād like it better if your thoughts of him didnāt make you frown.ā
Eleanor attempted a smile. āI like him. Iām sure Iāll grow to love him as I get to know him better.ā
Evalin squeezed her shoulder and went back to chopping.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Gavriel was sharpening his knives when his senses alerted him to someone approaching. He sniffed, trying to make it out. It was the same scent that was still lingering in him from before, mixed with the smell of food.
He placed the knife he was holding on the bed and reached for his shirt ā heād taken it off while he was training. There was a gentle knock and he crossed the short distance to open the door.
āI didnāt chop vegetables all day so you could skip on a meal I helped prepare!ā
Gavriel tried to resist a smile. The princess was standing in his doorway with a tray full of clumsily cut steamed vegetables, roasted meat and a goblet with ale.
āHello,ā he said.
She seemed confused for a second, then her beautiful face twisted into a sly smile. āHi,ā she said and leaned against the doorframe, spilling some of the ale onto the vegetables. āOh, damn it!ā
Gavriel chuckled and took the tray from her. āI always like my vegetables soaked in ale.ā
Princess Eleanor stared at him for a moment before curtsying. āAnd that is why I did it.ā
He laughed again. āThank you for that, and for bringing me this food. You did not have to do it, princess.ā
She waved a dismissive hand. āLike I said, I like to see people appreciate my effort. Can I come in?ā
It was uncustomary for noble women, let alone princesses, to be alone in the company of a male they were not related to, especially in his sleeping chambers.
She rolled her eyes. āIf youāre warried about what-ā
āYou can come in.ā
She smiled and went inside, taking a seat on the table chair. Gavriel put the tray down on the other end of the small table. āIt smells delicious.ā
The princess nodded. āEmrys is a very talented cook.ā
Gavriel plunged his fork into a half-circle of a carrot that had cut lines in several places. āAnd you are a very talented chopper.ā
Eleanor crossed her arms. āEvalin chopped that one.ā
āOf course.ā
She smiled at him ā a smile that lit up her entire face, and could light up more if he allowed himself to look at it.
āTo what do I owe the pleasure of your company?ā
āBoredom, mostly. I usually listen to Emrysā stories after dinner.ā
āHe is the Story Keeper, yes?ā
Eleanor nodded. āIāve heard most of them from the Story Keeper in Wendlyn. But hearing them from Emrys⦠they sound very different.ā
āIn what ways?ā
āWell,ā the princess leaned into the table, āyour queen, for example.ā
Gavriel stiffened, but the girl said nothing of it. āWhat about my queen?ā
āIn Wendlyn, all the stories of her are filled with glory. She saved the world and now rules peaceful, happy lands from her stone throne in her stone city, waiting to protect us all again.ā
āAnd what do they say here?ā
Princess Eleanor angled her head. āAre you asking me to snitch?ā
He laughed. āYou are the one who brought up the subject.ā
āThey say⦠They say the same things, but in different ways. In Wendlyn, my auntās disdain of half-breeds is known only to those in the kingās inner circle. The people believe her armies are consisted of full-blooded fae because they are stronger, not because she believes them to be the only one worthy. In Wendlyn, when we speak of the battles she fights, the fallen soldiers are sacrifices for freedom. Here⦠it sounds like she does not care for her people.ā
Gavriel gulped. The horrors of his last battle, those young boys ā barely even males, the city she had made them turn to ash still clear in his mind.
āBut you care,ā the princess said with a nod to the inked names on his neck. āFor the soldiers you command.ā
āEvery fallen soldier is a cause of great mourning for queen Maeve.ā
āIām just sayingā¦ā her voice was light and teasing again. āThe people of Wendlyn like you and your group of warrior-friends a lot more than they like her. If you were to pledge your loyalty to someone else, your admirers would follow.ā
Gavriel offered a smile, but it was not sincere this time.
āWhat is your opinion of the demi-fae?ā she asked him.
āThere are many things that define a personās worth, but blood is not one of them.ā
The princess smiled, lighting up the room. Gavriel tried to ignore the roaring in his veins that pushed him to get closer to her.
āThen you wouldnāt mind my company for the rest of your meal.ā
āOf course not,ā he smiled ā this time for real.
āAnd you will listen to the concerns my cousin and I have regarding to your queen?ā
āThat is why I am here,ā he bowed his head.
āIt is why I am here, too. One of the reasons.ā
He wondered if asking her to elaborate would be pushing a boundary in their still-new acquaintance. The princess was young, her spirit was wild. Gavrielās had long been honed by pain, sorrow and battle, and barely remembering joy.
āVere is a beautiful city, and the castle there offers a lot more pleasures. Why would you want to leave it?ā
She scoffed. āYeah, it offers the pleasure of my overbearing mother, annoying brother, infuriating sister-in-law and a hundred courtiers that are dead bound on making my life hell!ā
Gavriel chuckled at the scowl on her face. āNow I wonder how you will ever want to go back there.ā
Princess Eleanor sighed. āIf every day here is like the ones Iāve already had, I would never want to leave. I would miss only my nephew, and some of the more handsome young lords. Althoughā¦ā she trailed and Gavriel raised an eyebrow, asking her to continue. āWell, with you here, those handsome young lords are put to shame.ā Despite the confidence in her posture and words, the princess turned a deep red in the cheeks.
āI am flattered by your words, princess.ā
Female attention has never been unfamiliar to Gavriel, and there was a time when heād been ready to give his heart to another, but now⦠Maeve had demanded he ended so many affairs in the years he had spent as her bloodsworn that at some point, he had stopped offering his heart.
āDonāt worry about it. Occasionally I must compliment someone other than myself as to not get a reputation,ā she winked.
āWould not want that,ā he agreed. āYou said you would miss your nephew?ā
āGalan,ā said Eleanor and smiled ā for the first time without a devilish side to it. āHeās my everything. Heās the sweetest boy ever! He has these big beautiful eyes that are always looking around and he rarely ever cries! But when he does⦠his voice is so cute I could listen to it all day!ā she cooed.
āI am sure he will be a source of great pride to your family,ā offered Gavriel.
Eleanor made a shaking motion with her head. āHis mother whines every day that he was not born a girl so she could dress him up, and my dear brother is trying to turn him into a miniature version of himself.ā
āIāve known many Ashryvers through the years, and it is hard to make you into something you are not. Still, the young prince is lucky to have an aunt like you.ā
āWhat about your family?ā
āMy father is a lord, and my mother comes from a noble house, as well.ā
āAny siblings?ā
āTwo brothers.ā
āAh,ā she clapped her hands. āThen you know my pain.ā
Gavriel chuckled. āThey are older than I am ā and by the time I was born, both of them were wed. I grew up with their wives as my sisters as much as I grew up with them as my brothers.ā
āI am sure all of them were proud when you swore the blood oath to my aunt.ā
He nodded but said nothing. āTell me more about your family. From the letter your father wrote to your aunt, I understand you and your cousin are the only ones⦠carrying concerns.ā
āOh, well⦠yes. My family holds your queen in the highest esteem. My brother has many responsibilities as crown prince, so I guess Evalin and I are the only ones with enough time on our hands to reach out to these causes. Speaking of, when are we going to get the chance to address said concerns?ā
āTomorrow morning?ā If he took the princesses on a ride through the woods and showed them how peaceful they were ā how peaceful Maeve kept them ā perhaps heād assure them there was nothing to worry about.
āPerfect.ā
Ā Ā Evalin was enjoying a book in bed when Eleanor burst into her room with a huge smile adorning her face.
āDid you bed the Lion at last then?ā
āNot yet, but I still come with great news.ā She plumped herself on Evalinās bed and sighed. āHe has invited us to a ride in the morning, to talk about the demi-fae.ā
āDo you want me to fake an illness?ā
āWhat?ā
āSo that you can get the lion roaring.ā Evalin winked at her cousin.
āEvalin! These kind of jokes are why mother wonāt let me out of her sight!ā
āWyrd, she is strict! So is mine, sadly.ā
āDo you think itās one of those things where you age and think āMy mother was rightā?ā
āNo!ā Evalin laughed. āI can easily see your kid and mine trying to get each other laid!ā
wow. This is,,, not what happened. Correct me if I'm wrong but there are MANY allusions to Aedion being sexually abused as a kid in those war camps
Aedion never made light of Lysandra being sex-trafficked. Between the allusion of bring sexually abused as a kid, Aedion was forced to serve the king that slaughtered his family and enslaved and murdered thousands of his countrymen. His body has been used against him for YEARS. He did not compare being bisexual to Lysandra being forced into prostitution š
1. Manon came to her as she was listening a song and her editor at the time wanted to cut her as it would make Heir of Fire shorter and the books would look better next to each other on a shelf. Sarah said sheād rather die.
2. THAT scene with the thirteen came to her a couple of hours later when she was listening to a different song (I think it was one from Star Wars) and was always there in her head whenever she was writing scenes with them. Itās what made her cry the hardest
3. When she was still writing the previous version of throne of glass where Aelin ended up with someone else, when she finished for the day, she would open a āsecret fileā and write Rowaelin smut because they had amazing chemistry
4. If she had to choose a guy from both her series (who is not Rhysand or Rowan) she said she would pick Cassian because he would put up with her bullshit (But before that she went on about how perfect Rhysand is for a few minutes š nobody disagreed). She also said that Rowan would intimidate her and he would not be able to put up with her bullshit
5. One of the acotar spin-offs will be about Cassian and Nesta
6. The final line for Kingdom of Ash came to her when she was on holiday with her husbandās family in Costa Rica. They were in a car, Sarah was with her headphones and listening to an epic song as the view of green fields and a clouded mountain (rainforest on top of a hill, in a cloud) came into view and the last line appeared in her head. She started crying and told everyone it was because she loved nature.
7. Josh brought Taran out and he was playing with his own toes. It was the sweetest thing ever.
8. Her new series, Crescent city, will be set 2000 years in the future, where mythical creatures will live with humans, mermaid-like creature will have their own city under the city
9. She was talking about a scene - I think it was the thirteen - and someone wept. Very loud. Sarah said it was the best reaction sheād ever gotten.
This is all I recall at the moment. Iāll update if I remember something else
10. When she and that editor were talking about the size of the books and she told her something along the lines of readers not wanting the new books in a series to be bigger than the first, Sarah responded with āWell what about Harry Potterā and the editor told her she was no Harry Potter. Sarah said "buuurnā
11. When she submitted the final version for KoA, she got a call that the book worked out to 1008 pages, and the glue they purchased in the US could only hold 1000 pages. She was told that if they didnāt figure it out pages would start falling from the books. She freaked out because she didnāt want to cut anything and they would hand the book over to the publishers in two days.
The team there worked non-stop for those two days - moving the text closer to the big āCHAPTERā lines, changing the spacing⦠In the end it was around 990 pages
12. The World Of Throne of Glass will be set 10 years after the events of Kingdom of Ash. A royal historian has been hired and he will interview all of the surviving characters, travel the places and so on. We will see how they have dealt with everything, what their lives are like now and how the kingdoms have been rebuilt. I'm prepared for tears when they ask Manon about the Thirteen or Aedion about Gavriel
