WEDDINGFOREST CANONNNNNN
It’s been a minute since I bounced my ideas off you. Hope 2026 is treating you well. Stepping away from the supernatural parts of Kathy Rain, I wanted to talk about our girls relationship with Lucas Longhorn. On rewatch, one thing I noticed about Lucas is how similar he was to her grandfather Joseph, mainly with how they’re both retired war veterans with estranged relationships with their respective sons. Obviously there are a few notable differences, but I can’t help but wonder if the reason Kathy was so close with Lucas is that she saw part of her grandfather, who she had a far more stable and healthy relationship with than her parents before they were separated, in him and wanted to recreate her bond with Joseph through Longhorn. Makes Faith killing him all the more hurtful and cruel with this idea in mind.
Not only does Lucas share traits with Joseph, but to me he also is a reflection of Kathy herself. Lucas seems to be the only person in her life that's genuinely close to her during soothsayer, even surpassing Eileen, and I think this stems from how similar they truly are. Both isolated, gritty mystery solvers with complicated family dynamics, Lucas understands when to push Kathy and when to give her space. He seems to care for her in a way similar to how he would care for a younger version of himself. Lucas is aware that he's getting up there in years, and I think he wants Kathy to live her life differently than he has. He wants her to have a better future than he did, so he refuses to allow her to push him away. His death is all the more tragic when you look at Faith as a manifestation of all Kathy's worst flaws. Kathy is self-sabotaging in her relationships and tends to harshly cut people down when they get too close to her. And yet, Lucas manages to cement himself as a father figure to her. The only way for her to remove Lucas from her life was by killing him.
And happy 2026 to you! Always a pleasure :)
themmmmm <3
in light of episode 15 this has taken on some rather unfortunate meaning huh
nobody will ever love you
I love your artstyle! The way you color/render people is so pretty! And hell ya more golden lily shippers <3 (alas. Episode 15 😔)
hahaha what episode 15
it's insane how a few throwaway lines of dialog in cookie chat managed to endear me to shadow milk's character more than 3-4 episodes worth of content about him
whoops
so glad someone pointed out white lily's statement about how her heart has always known abundance, the scene with her and golden cheese was so sweet
they're very near and dear to my heart
fabulous takes they hurt me very deeply
