It’s probably never going to happen because I really don’t think Deltarune would go down this path.
But in the instance Kris genuinely likes Berdly, there’s a very specific aspect of horror within the weird route that arises from the existing parallels between what you make them do to Noelle versus Berdly in that route.
There’s someone in your class you know all too well.
A pretentious tryhard, a pedantic weirdo who goes on long-winded tangents about animated shows you can’t stand, a sore loser that blames everything but himself whenever you partake in your shared interests.
But in a bizarre way, he’s still someone you like. You may mock him or make jokes at his expense, but that’s nothing compared to how you treated the girl next door when you were kids.
He doesn’t take it personally, you know he’ll just shrug it off and fail to win one over the next time it happens.
But it knows better than that.
It knows you better than you know yourself.
And it knows what you really want.
You should be disgusted by something like him.
Let’s find someone better for you. Someone you deserve to be with, someone you shouldn’t feel sick at the very thought of being around.
See, isn’t she better? Isn’t she perfect for you?
Not like him. He’s worthless, you could kill him and nothing would change.
The two of you have always been made for each other, he’s just getting in the way.
Let’s show this creep how you really feel.
You shouldn’t be bothered by this. Everyone else felt the same way.
She leans over his shoulder to wish him sweet dreams in her own attempts to reconcile with what it did to him, her dad laughs in ignorance over the idea that he put himself to sleep. Even your best friend jokes about his inexplicable condition whenever you visit his isolated ward.
You should laugh too, isn’t it obvious he deserves this for having the audacity to act the way he does?
He remains in the back of your mind, haunting your waking thoughts.
The smell of rotting apples from his neglected gifts to your teacher remains, corrupting a once familiar scent. His body wastes away, cold to the touch, and you don’t know if he’ll make it out in the end.
And you can’t tell even your closest friends, because they’d never feel the same even if things weren’t like this.
They would never understand.
Sure, she might believe you. She might sympathize with how you feel right up until you tell her who it is, and then you’ll have to laugh it off as if it were a dumb joke.
No one will take this seriously, because why should they?
And it certainly wouldn’t.
It projects vitriol onto your own words, despite never hearing them.
It knows that you insist upon your feelings whenever you can, but it selectively interprets them no matter what. It cannot comprehend the idea of genuinely being with him, and it believes you should too.
Whenever it does entertain the chance of these feelings being true, it treats them like a sick joke, like something no sane person would feel.
It never saw you drag his unconscious body to a semblance of safety, it never experienced the hours you spent together in front of the computer screen, it never heard your voice over the phone.
Things like that don’t matter.
It knows how you should really feel about him, after all.
I don’t know, I just think that’s a little more interesting than Soul Forces Kris To Go With Berdly As Payback that everyone decided is canon somehow, because projecting fan opinion onto Kris is okay if it’s Berdly I guess.
