the insane experience of missing a fictional character . like you can always go back and reread the book , replay the game , rewatch the show or movie , you can always go back & see them , but you can never experience them & their story for the first time again . its absurd to miss them because they'll always be there , but you'll miss when there were still new things for them to say .

you startle at kaeyaâs sudden question, eyes widening before a soft smile tugs at your lips.

âhm,â he hums, turning away from his stack of reports to look at you. âattractive, yes, sure. but beautiful? i must say, thatâs a first.â
his expression is neutral but you know him well enough to know the look in his eye. you get up and move closer to his desk.
âdo you dislike it?â you ask him quietly, eyes never leaving him as you slowly shift to stand beside his chair.
he leans back in his chair, reports momentarily forgotten, and regards you with an openly curious expression now.
âjust wondering what brought this on. i certainly donât look any different than usual today.â
âyouâre always beautiful to me,â you whisper, reaching out to brush his bangs from his face. he doesnât pull back like you expect, instead just barely leaning into the touch.
âflattery will get you nowhere, my dear,â he chides playfully, a lopsided grin on his lips which just makes your heart race even more.
you shift even closer, leaning against the armrest of his chair and forward slightly to cradle his face in your hands â an action that has his eye widening as he freezes.
âiâm just stating facts, not trying to get anything from you,â you brush your thumbs along his cheekbones lightly, marveling at the heat you can feel growing under your palms.
âyes, well... youâre certainly in a mood today, arenât you?â he flusters, eye darting away before reluctantly meeting your gaze again when you slowly tilt his head up.
you lean down to press a light kiss to his forehead, then his cheeks as your hands shift to run through his hair, always mindful of the strap of his eyepatch.

all he manages is a soft huff of whatâs undoubtedly fond exasperation, his eye fluttering shut at your ministrations.
you lean down further and kiss him softly, lingering for a moment before pulling away. he chases after you briefly before sighing and slumping back in his chair with a faint pout.
âtease,â he mutters, his eye narrowing at you as he crosses his arms over his chest.
you laugh and move away, back to the couch in the corner of his office.
âyou love it. now, back to those reports, captain.â
he groans softly and eyes the pile of reports with distaste, but still shifts to get back to work.
âmust i? i was rather enjoying the sudden attention...â
âperhaps later i will give you more of it. if those reports get done, that is,â you reply lightly, turning your gaze to a book.
âvery well then, my lady,â he exaggerates the endearment but settles back in to work, a comfortable silence falling over the office.
