I’m a mixed afro-indigenous lesbian in the US and I was shot seven times with riot rounds from 20 feet away at a peaceful protest a few days ago while standing still and silent by myself in front of a line of armed police and soldiers after the crowd broke after we were tear gassed. Four of the hits caused serious injury and tore tendons in my arm and my calf. I’m proud of my decision to stand and let them shoot me over and over because I wanted to make a statement, I wanted to bring myself to risk my well being for something that I think really matters, and I wanted to stop the line from advancing on the rest of the fleeing crowd, but I’m in a lot of pain from the damage and my limbs ain’t working so great right now.
The state is re opening soon and I don’t have a job, the job market is gonna be rough, and right now I have limited movement in my dominant hand/arm and both my legs so I don’t know when I’ll even be able to work. I have no money, I made like 4K last year, and I don’t really own much of anything, so if anyone can donate I just need money to live on- pay bills, rent, buy food and essentials, etc, and just stabilize my situation, I’d really appreciate it

This is why it’s important to SAY HER NAME OUTLOUD!!! Black women are dying and deserve justice too.
HER NAME IS BREONNA TAYLOR AND SHE WAS MURDERED!!! LETS GET INTO IT!!!
the three murderers continue to just stay on “administrative leave” as an investigation continues underway and louisville continues to mourn and fight for justice

“When I was a student at Cambridge I remember an anthropology professor holding up a picture of a bone with 28 incisions carved in it. ‘This is often considered to be man’s first attempt at a calendar’ she explained. She paused as we dutifully wrote this down. ‘My question to you is this – what man needs to mark 28 days? I would suggest to you that this is woman’s first attempt at a calendar.’ It was a moment that changed my life. In that second I stopped to question almost everything I had been taught about the past. How often had I overlooked women’s contributions?” ― Sandi Toksvig
why can’t people accept “the media is over-hyping coronavirus” and “coronavirus is concerning given the lack of knowledge surrounding it” are both true? like can I order some nuance
and also "stop panicking about dying because most deaths will be due to previous immunocompromisation" and "we should work to reduce the spread as much as possible to keep those immunocompromised safe" are both true
And they are both true because most of the panic we see are people panicking in an individualized selfish way (where they hoard supplies for themselves or are concerned only about themselves getting infected)
When what is actually needed and helpful are systematic large efforts whereby we all work together to slow the spread so that the number of high risk cases stays low enough for our healthcare system to handle. By which we protect the most vulnerable in our communities from exposure and ensure that the healthcare system has the supplies and resources to help them if they are exposed.
A corallory of that is we need to make sure important supplies are available to everyone who needs them.
If you hoard masks, you take them from those who need them, especially if they're medically rated ones. If you hoard soap you make it harder for your community to wash their hands and are contributing to a faster spread.
If you participate in rushes on large stores, jostling and competing to get supplies, you increase the chance of transmission in your community simply by the math of being in close contact with more people.
It's not that you shouldn't pay attention and take reasonable measures. It's that so many of the measures people are taking (spurred in part by breathless media reporting about things like supply hoarding) are counterproductive at best and in some cases actively harmful.
a dnd player waiting for their turn
It’s not about the productivity. If we worked less, we’d have time to cook our own meals, fix our devices, do DIY projects, grow food, talk to our neighbors, improve our communities, get our stuff from real stores instead of ordering on amazon, maybe even go around and find a small business instead of just going to walmart because it’s easy, walk or bike instead of drive, play in the park instead of collapsing in front of the TV to turn our brains off, look around a public library instead of just buying online, etc, etc, etc
Exhausted people are easy to sell convenience to and easy to isolate. If we had time, we’d realize we don’t need them
Liberalism can’t explain things like why we still work 8 hour days when it’s well-proven that 4 hour days increase both happiness and overall productivity because it can’t recognize the fundamentally adversarial relationship we have with the owning class. The missing piece of the puzzle is that the rich directly benefit from keeping us miserable, and that will continue to be the case as long as they’re rewarded for exploiting us. Reform won’t fix that, taxation won’t fix it, redistribution won’t fix it. Only abolishing centralized ownership of the means of production will
