harrow outfits :) my creepy little dress up doll

love designing outfits but keeping them monotone has always been a struggle for me, so for harrow i focused more on shapes and textures. i like her in structured, top-heavy silhouettes!

there's also a part in htn (the ball dream sequence) about the aunts repurposing her ancestors' old clothes for her so i kept that in mind for some of her outfits...jacket cut and laced back together to become adjustable, ruching to fake more volume or maybe hide holes in tattered thin cloth, etc :')

some notes on the details:

the painting are the two versions of madame x - the first being the one with the hanging shoulder strap that sargent famously later painted over. this version of course doesn't exist anymore while the other one hangs in the met

the background is essentially an inverted lace pattern

the quotes are all taken directly from the dreamer trilogy (save for the two headlines, but those are still more or less paraphrased)

Rereading TCP reminded me of all these fantastical images of the faerie world that I had, that I only could ever relate to a few other artists. I had such a distinct different view of Faerie that I wanted to portray in my drawings but had no skill to make it come to life. I found my old design of Brambleweft's dress, the one tha got replaced by Cardan's blue dress. It's funny cause now looking back I realize that these dresses are just sisters of each other.
