Living Like Kings
Ulm, Germany (by Michael Heichler)
The Department of Fantastically Freaky Footwear just discovered the unforgettably unsettling work of London-based artists Dominic Young and Mariana Fantich. These red patent leather Mary Janes are part of Fantich & Young's ongoing Apex Predator series. In the place of traditional rubber soles, hundreds of individual teeth and front teeth dentures have been carefully implanted into the underside of each shoe, transforming these otherwise adorable buckled kids’ shoes into nightmare fuel.
This isn’t the first time that Fantich & Young have sent a pair of shoes clickety-clacking through our dreams. They’ve also created Apex Predator Oxfords, Boys Brogues, a pair of Jimmi Choo Empire Shoes and even a decidedly menacing Apex Predator Egg.
