posts that make you feel like a crumb or perhaps a pea
In the last few years, I moved from the southern US to the northern US. People always joke that people in the south can't handle the cold, or that people in the north can't handle the heat, but I would argue that while upbringing affecting preference is a factor, the more important factor is infrastructure. In Texas, we had lighter, draftier houses that breathed. This helps with heat, but in the winter, if it got down around 15⁰ f (like it usually did up to a couple of times a year), the houses couldn't keep up. It was impossible to heat the indoors over 60⁰, even with blasting the heat. Alternatively, buildings up north don't always have air conditioning, so if it gets up over 95⁰ it is really difficult to handle, especially for prolonged stretches. Climate isn't just personal preference. We have architecture from over the past 100 yrs that is adapted to handle the temps it was before global warming. The architecture in Europe is even older. If people say the temp is untenable, believe them.
i hate it when people mistake "etymology" with "entomology." like, i know where they coming from but it still bugs me
daily reminder
thank you for your sacrifice mary berry
I don't wanna sound like mean or nuthin but a lot of y'all have been trapped in a vortex of suffering for so long that you've come to identify with the suffering as an aspect of your personality and ideology and thereby to covet suffering and to mistake debasement for enoblement and humiliation for virtue
this reminds me of two quotes which went something like "pain is inevitable, suffering is a choice" and "the key to fulfillment is not abundance, but the simple act of valuing appreciation more than lamentation". another one that I heard from my previous therapist that woke me tf up was "stop romanticising being your own sacrificial lamb" and tbh? yeah. the world WANTS you to suffer. fight back. you HAVE to choose being and Doing happy yk

it's very frustrating seeing otherwise well-structured posts about media literacy and critical thinking bookended with statements about "nowadays", "nobody has literacy anymore", "this generation is so anti-intellectual", and the like, unquestioningly falling into better past fallacies.
Do we really think the 80s and its Satanic Panic were better at critical thinking? what about the 40s? the Victorian era? societies have always had problems with critical thinking and literacy, because most societies have dealt with propaganda, corrupt leadership, difficulty providing education (due to poverty or discrimination or other issues), and/or people who resist critical thinking (due to privilege or circumstance or what have you). we can criticize media trends without pulling a "well back in the GOOD OLD DAYS" about it.
First name generated is your new derby name.
Heres mine LMAO
fixed it
You guys, I've been in roller derby for a year now and still haven't come up with a name. I would like something that relates to my interests, especially linguistics, but any ideas are welcome!

What's the opposite of foreshortening called? Forelongening?
Another domino meme possibility.
Obama -> tea party -> charlie Kirk -> TPUSA -> trump getting elected -> Charlottesville unite the right rally -> Biden getting elected -> trump getting elected (2.0) -> charlie Kirk killed -> Erika kirk WWE entrance at his funeral
Not in the "thanks obama" sense but in the sense that this all just stems from backlash to electing a Black president. It's racism all the way down
That domino meme but it's 9/11 -> groypers. Working on it.
if I stop posting for 2 months assume I have been rolled in filo pastry with chopped pistachios then baked in the oven before being soaked in honey and consumed.
