Ami Thompson, the character designer for KPDH drew this and it’s everything.
JINU HAS THE SAME PATTERNS AS RUMI. DOES THIS COUNT AS A SPOILER?
napping with mira
*Jinu, making an ungodly amount of kimbap*
Baby: What are you doing?
Jinu: Zoey told me that Rumi got hurt, so I’m making kimbap.
Romance: And how is that going to help?
Jinu: Rumi loves kimbap.

I need more of them. 🥰
Fact of the matter is, that bro Jinu didn't need to hug Rumi to wrap her clawed up sleeve. He was just doing it for the game
Another thought crossed my mind. Jinu betraying Rumi had another layer. Demons are not alive in the human sense. So, when Rumi was talking about setting Jinu free, she meant his spirit. Next, when Jinu told Rumi that things weren't that simple and asked her what made her think the honmoon could save a guy like him, his betrayal revealed a deeper fear that I hadn't considered until now. Jinu was not ready to face his mother and sister in the afterlife.
Gwi-Ma knew this and used it against him. Imo, he was using Jinu's shame to suggest that his family wouldn't accept him if Rumi's plan worked... which would destroy Jinu. And in his mind, he would deserve it. His shame was crippling him in this moment, and Gwi-Ma squeezed the exact pressure point he needed to in order to force Jinu into compliance.
Rumi and Jinu were falling for one another, yes, but Rumi's phrase to Jinu is key: set you free. Jinu feared being released from Gwi-Ma and going to his family at long last and facing them. More importantly, Jinu makes a conscious choice to give his soul to Rumi. I do wonder if he still feels too guilty to face his family, but this time, he's doing the work to make himself worthy (through aiding Rumi in her life).
Rumi: I wanted to set you free!
Jinu: You did. You gave me my soul back. And now, I give it to you.
Rumi's actions inspired Jinu to act and that act broke him free from Gwi-Ma. But, he then reveals another self-actualized decision. He is STAYING with Rumi. As long as she lives, his soul will be bonded with her and stand by her side. Until then, he cannot just go to his family in the afterlife. He's made a sacrifice to be with her. I do feel that this is something to factor in when considering his decision making. It's his gift to Rumi for her just being herself and showing him how beautiful she is on the inside and out. He was so inspired by her self-acceptance and love that he now wants to follow her and be her guardian as long as she lives. He wants to begin his road of redemption.
If you look at this final battle scene from Jinu's perspective, it's actually heartbreaking. This was going to be a victory for Gwi-Ma in more ways than one, and one of those ways was breaking Jinu. Jinu is performing this song and ritual and, for me at least, it's actually uncomfortable to watch when considering that Gwi-Ma is IMPOSING his authority and dominion over Jinu. He is an abusive master, and Jinu is using his beauty and VOICE to do Gwi-Ma's bidding (the very voice that Gwi-Ma allowed Jinu to keep). The darker elements are subtle but coded in and I'm not gonna mention them. You can deduce them for yourselves, but it's gross when I think about it. Considering this angle, look at Jinu's performance now. Look at his features, he's putting on the show of his life... and it's to erase himself. It is heart-rending. This isn't just a performance. This is Jinu's EULOGY to himself. This is him succumbing to pain in the last moments of his life with his memories.
He's given up.
Then, we see his anguish clearly defined here... when Rumi shows up.
She is calling him back to his own heart. Not because she's actively doing it, but because Jinu's heart is alive and it wants to remember. He wants to be free. He wants to HOLD to his memories. And she has shown him, especially in this moment of her own self-actualization through accepting all of herself (that dialogue with Gwi-Ma was serving more than her story!!), that he can fight and free himself. That he is worthy.
Oooo! Very interesting! Love this analysis.

My Neighbor Demon-Tiger
ive been thinking about KPDH and how every single reaction ive seen of How It's Done.
And Like, that is pretty much the perfect introduction song. Aside from setting up their abilities perfectly and giving each girl character moments to be highlighted and a perfect demonstration of how them as popstars and them as demon hunters are the same job,
It's also got Rumi's note
Every time, every single time from KPop fans reacting, to vocalists reacting, to music producers and casual fans and rap fans and everyone else When they get to that note, to the buildup, to the animation of her mouth, face and body as she puts her EVERYTHING into the note, to the note itself, how it starts high, goes long and ends higher,
THAT is the moment where everyone is shocked, explodes in appreciation and locks the fuck in
Because yeah, it's a perfect moment, the animation especially is 1 to 1 absolutely realistic to how a person would have to move and act to pull off that note, especially with the mouth muscles,
But it's also the one moment that completely sells the idea that these girls have voices that can fight demons.
No one questions it after that, because they saw it work, the movie made them BELIEVE it in a way that previous movies made people believe in Superman, in Middle Earth or in a galaxy far far away
THAT moment made the movie I think, I believe it down in my soul that if that one moment hadn't been perfect, KPDH wouldn't have reached the memetic superstardom it has
god she even pulls the mike back like she actually has to be careful that her voice will blow the damn thing out what the Fuck
AND AND during that note, it immediately cuts to the two girls, the fans who can't believe what they just heard, who's souls and faces lit up because of that note, of Rumi's voice, and it's like, that's us! that is literally us the audience! That's the actual reaction of everyone ive ever seen react to that moment. So, fucking perfect
