My favorite quirk of American English is that since we're constantly exaggerating, sometimes it's more intense to say something slightly less intense. Because like, it means you actually thought about it.
"you look great!" - normal. Anyone could say this. Could be true or could just be lying to be nice. Very normal expected thing to say to someone
"you look good." - gay as hell thing to say to someone.
It's so funny when people see conservation laws that give exceptions to indigenous groups and claim that the laws are too restrictive and that the indigenous people they were "made" for don't even want those laws.
Like first of all, extremely bold of you to assume that the majority of indigenous people don't support efforts to protect our ancestral lands from further destruction.
But second, those laws were NOT made for us! Unless the laws were spearheaded by indigenous people fighting for them to be enacted, we are at best secondary to these laws. Historically, non-indigenous and especially white conservationists actively work AGAINST indigenous groups and paint our cultures and traditions as dangerous or harmful to the environment. Exceptions (like ownership or certain feathers or hunting/fishing outside of specific seasons) exist because indigenous groups fought for them to maintain our cultures and ways of life.
It's just another example of how the rights that our communities have fought and suffered for are now seen as privileges, as gifts from colonial governments, hand outs that we either don't deserve or should have too much "pride" to "accept." It definitely plays into the Stoic Indian™ trope or that idea some well intentioned but deeply fucking annoying people have that things like cultural appropriation were made up by guilty white people and ~real indigenous people~ don't care.
