Looking young in a yarn shop.

I wanted to see if anyone else has this problem. I am 24 but look much younger like I am in mid to late high school. When I go into many nice yarn shops they snub me, talk down to me, and assume I am not gonna drop bank on some nice ass yarn. I am always very polite and friendly. Mind this isn’t all yarn shops but many of them. I had a really bad experience with this one yarn shop in Fredrick MD yesterday and I am still miffed about how they treated me. I just want to know if anyone else experiences this?

Reblogging for folks who have been in more yarn shops than I have (I’ve only been to my LYS). I sure hope others haven’t been treated this way! I’m 30 and still look like I’m in my late teens/early twenties (from what I’ve been told), so I understand getting snubbed, in general. I get it elsewhere, and often - though I’m not sure if it’s solely the age they think I am. 👎👎

It’s totally an age thing. Which is stupid (1) and rude (2) because my mother is not going to spend a lot of money on fancy yarn. She’s wool sensitive too so if it’s not cotton or acrylic it’s not in her hand. Me though, if they’re nice to me I’ll drop their entire day’s pay in a single visit. But I get snubbed too often as well, not because I’m usually with my mom, but because I’m a bald, bearded giant.

I’m actually really uncomfortable when going into LYS for this reason. It’s a fear of getting talked down to or being ignored. Both have happened to me. Although my source of anxiety with is due to an experience I actually had when I was in high school. The LYS I went to had a knit night. I went with some friends who were the same age, but all the other women were much older and…drinking alcohol. Which bewildered me. I’m super awkward around anyone remotely drunk, not to mention my friends and I kept to ourselves so it was like what’s the point? The only LYS I enjoyed being in was Knit Stop in Indianapolis, but it’s now closed.
