once I snorted a fat line of nuance and everything started depending. watch out
When i first began a "no recruit" save years ago, i thought it would be the "ralsei is miserable" scenario. Now, i propose we call this the "Queen's gradual fall into despair due to understimulation" route. She is the most miserable person in town right now.
we all know that beinq introduced as "???" with a black silhouette as sprite feels qood as fuck BUT. you must imaqine beinq introduced as "!?"
there's an anime everyone's into right now and it must be really confusing because everyone in the tags keeps going "wha?" it's okay gang you'll figure it out.
Did you see the flower that bloomed nowhere has a vn now? It might get new people into it, and it's nice to have official visuals for characters
yes yes! i am very tapped in to the flower news, i'm a patron and i keep tabs on the discord. have been looking forward to the vn for quite awhile. I was planning to make a post about it once i'd played myself and could take some choice screenshots, but a couple of different people have asked me about it already so i should probably at least acknowledge it now
The VN demo is COMPLETELY FREE and you can get it right over here on itch!
the backgrounds and sprites look so nice, the ui is super cool, i'm hearing good things about the music but of course I have yet to hear it myself. it has never been a better time to go meet my dear friends ran of hoa-trinh and utsushikome of fusai
frankenfurter uses transfemininity to make her more alien, jax uses transfemininity to become sympathetic and legible.
sorry i saw a post that couldn't understand why a screenplay written by a terf who violently hates trans women is hated by transfeminists and transfems and why jax, who is also textually a shitty person, is well liked while being a transfem's self-insert love letter to their past self
my that one friend that's too woke opinion is that in a similar vein to how you almost never see fat people or women without makeup on tv you never really see anyone experiencing incontinence issues unless it's a humiliating comedic moment at their expense and that's kind of scary
like sorry to be the bearer of bad news but people piss themselves. when they're afraid. when they've experienced mental and/or physical trauma and their body needs a way to express that stress. when they've been sexually assaulted. when they get older and their muscles start to wear out from a lifetime of service. a not insignificant majority of people Will experience incontinence in their lifetimes and while there are steps you can take to manage it for your own comfort and others', there's simply no moral dimension to it whatsoever. & like i'm not saying every show and movie needs checkhov's bed wetting scene but we have seriously got to get more okay with acknowledging that somehow.
I am once again thinking about how Sybil couldn't bring herself to sacrifice the daughter that looked so much like her, with her green eyes, but had the easiest time sacrificing Kaneeka. Who looks nothing like her. She has an easy time sacrificing the black woman. The themes here make me so ill. Nobody's really bothered to learn Averys name, and only really deal with them because of their aunt. Everybody's outwardly polite to them, to their faces. On the surface its ah this town is tolerant considering the circumstances. Theres a confederate flag in Enochs office. People mutter about Kaneeka getting a big head for disliking how this town treats her behind her back. People think Averys Untrustworthy, which is yes okay caused by them seemingly being neutral about everything but like. We all know where this is going, right. We all know the subtext. Its so. Small town politeness. Technically, nobody said anything. Technically. So its a fine place to live and really you shouldn't be so ungrateful, you shouldnt be complaining so much, theyre doing the best they possibly can, it could be a lot worse even if it certainly isnt that good, its worse out there. There is a flag in Enochs office and nobody ever got rid of it.
reading a historical romance novel and reflecting on the way these stories often present woke nobility for the contemporary reader. a big thing is servants. you canât not have servants in those times but many modern readers think âbut I would never have servants. it would be so weird to have servantsâ and in order to make the protagonists of the story more relatable they are actually friends with the servants. but flip your perspective and think of it from the side of the servants. wouldnât it be so awful if your boss was always trying to be friends with you. a really common thing youâll see is the woke baronet having tea in the kitchen with the servants bc heâs not like other baronets. what if your boss wanted to hang out and talk during your lunch break every day. not so charming when you think about it that way
if itâs 1810 and you get hired by a man who recently inherited a huge estate for a contrived reason and heâs simply not used to the exhausting social demands of the ton do NOT invite him to tea with you below stairs! I know they hadnât invited work-life balance back in the regency era but youâre gonna need to!
What is your opinion on child neglect? Specifically in regards to your son
he has three whole pinball machines and i donât even make him work for me anymore. what else could he possibly need
Realizing the narrative you are reading has an intertext but being unable to dissect it cuz you've never read the narrative that's being referenced is so frustrating!!!
How it feels to imagine a female character's voice as deep when you read the source and then watch an adaptation that gives her some Elmo ass voice
i know it's just meant to be an easy way to have access to party members while moving around but the way they linger to the sides just makes me think akizet is picking them up by the shoulders and carrying them around
"we have a strict no girls allowed policy" is lowkey such a heartbreaking fucking line
of course the problem with "redemption arcs" is that "redemption" is a pure construct of the narrative. It's a conceit of the story where a "bad guy" gets to join the "good guys" and be a part of their group, or narratively be allowed to move past their crimes. The discourse around it is consistently shallow because it prioritizes the feelings of the audience as paramount - a redemption arc is "bad" when the person watching it feels unconvinced and unfulfilled and "good" when they like and appreciate the character and feel that they "faced up" to their crimes, whatever that means. Cater to the feelings and preoccupations of the audience or face scorn and accusations of Bad Writing! Force the shallow narrative conceit upon your characters!
Because of course in real life redemption does not exist. It's made up and relies on an outside force (God, the author, the audience). You cannot "make up" for what you have done. It's always there. Most people who improve themselves don't apologize and make everything right, they just move on and stop doing shitty things and enter a new environment. In many ways people complaining about "redemption arcs" are simply mad that this is the case.
Sore Morel behaves as if he's better than the ruling dead (who are hallmarked by their queerphobia and other discriminatory practices) and yet his able-bodied cis daughter has a smile that could fix the world but his nonbinary child with an atypical body is 'filthy' and 'corrupted'.
