my futile wish is for people to understand that "sex scenes in movies/TV don't have to serve the plot and can genuinely just be for pleasure" and "sex-repulsed people are allowed to complain about how rare it is for media made for adults like them to be something they can enjoy completely" are both true statements. unfortunately society hates both sex and people who don't like sex, so everyone gets far too defensive about any sex or lack thereof in fiction to actually have this conversation
I am currently reading the Eat God playtest (0.6.2), and something I wanted to compliment you on is how directly comprehensible it is. An immense amount of my frustration with D&D is that, starting from the beginning of a PHB and reading forward, large sections frequently prove irrelevant or incomprehensible without later information -- no relevant pages given, of course! This is not confined to D&D, either, I have run across many board games that seem to have picked at random the order in which rules are explained, leading to a great deal of frustration on my part.
I'm always of two minds about comments like this. On the one hand, I appreciate the the vote of confidence that I'm succeeding in making the text approachable. On the other hand, I know that I'm an average technical writer at best, so it feels kind of like I'm benefiting from other people's misfortune on account of the fact that many major tabletop RPG publishers have seemingly never even heard of technical writing!
(Incidentally, Eat God's playtest draft is up to version 0.7.2 at the moment, so if you're a full major version behind, you may wish to pick up the latest ā a lot of stuff has been further clarified in the interim.)
high ambient background football levels reminded me to actually finish this Personal Lore That Caused My Books comic
Itās finally the time of year for my favorite soldier headcanon of mine that I will take no criticisms on
One time I came home from uni very upset and my younger siblings asked what's wrong. I said that mutated flies in our lab escaped because someone broke their jar. I didn't even realise how scary it sounded to them until I saw their faces lmao. I was upset because we were short on said flies (they don't reproduce very well) and my siblings thought that some crazy radioactive fly monsters escaped and we are all fucked now. Love being a mad scientist in their eyes lowkey

The problem with studying the deep ocean is that humans need light to look at things, the depths of the ocean are extremely dark, and what lives there is accustomed to spending most of its time in that darkness. So when we go down there with submersibles and turn on Big Lights to see, we invariably and dramatically alter what's going on, in the same way that it's generally difficult to observe the natural behaviors of terrestrial animals if you whip out a megaphone and shout HEY GUYS WHAT ARE YOU DOING at them first.
A humble snubnose eelpout on its way to the whale fall buffet when some nearby humans give it a quick, unintrusive study:
i'm so compelled by the idea of what happened to grace between the unesco "staggering waste of carbon" crashout and being a friendly, patient middle school teacher.
putting the fact that the "staggering waste of carbon" part of him never left aside (crash out in the first properly equipped lab you've been in for years in front of world leaders because there was water in the alien cell? iconic), there is such a huge character development arc there that we never got to see. how did he go from such a strong-opinionated, never-let-you-hear-the-end-of-his-theory grace to a grace that's somewhat beat down by life, that's embarrassed by his proudest achievement for the first (probably) 26-30ish years of his life? what happened to this guy between getting kicked out of academia and being recruited by stratt in a middle school classroom he has, no doubt, spent years cultivating in every way? what did he think of himself when he first lost his chance at academia? did he spend days, weeks, months wallowing? what made him commit to the change?

This is half a plot for a modern Shakespearean comedy of errors.
Romcom where two people meet cute and bond over how awful their exes were and plan elaborate revenge schemes but it turns out they both transitioned and are helping to plan revenge plots against themselves
