Don’t go getting a boner over his reaction there, Cap, he’s fairly aware of how he’s being ogled at the moment, and while this isn’t anything new for him, it does seem to make him a tiny bit uncomfortable; probably something to do with the lack of control over the situation, he thinks, or the fact that he considers leaning in and taking that stolen kiss right back.
Both of his hands remain by his sides, fingers loose as he looks up at the other. And the brief thought of the tiny bit of annoyance that might wash over Steve with how calmly he reacts to this goes through his mind, and he finds himself resisting the urge to smile. “Well.”
There’s a long pause there, and he licks his lips before pressing them in a thin line, actually considering his words for once. “Maybe the thing is,” He starts, hands moving to Steve’s hips, “I know how your mind works, and what you’re thinking, and what you might want to try and see through, and, ah,” He laughs then, just a puff of breath, pushing Steve (gently) backwards, “I just don’t think it’s a good idea.”
For a moment, Steve thinks that he’s getting through to Tony. The barely-there smile, the way he’s leaning unconsciously toward Steve and licking dry lips nervously -- all signs are pointing toward a positive outcome, ESPECIALLY when Tony stops trying to keep his hands at his sides and allows them to come to rest on Steve’s slim hips.
Mouth spreading into a smile, Steve opens his mouth -- and then Tony’s stopping him, insisting that this electricity between the two of them is wrong, a bad idea. The taller man is so stunned that he allows Tony to push him away, brows drawn in a hurt frown.
“I’m going to need more of an explanation than that,” he says finally, when it’s clear that Tony feels that he’s done ENOUGH talking, when really, the man has just said enough to be maddening. Steve resists - barely - the urge to put his hands back and SHAKE Tony until he sees sense -- but that would be counterproductive. “I think it’s a good idea. A great one, actually.”
