June is National Scoliosis Awareness Month, and Katherine has just received a new back brace! It’s custom made to fit the curve of her spine and prevent it from worsening. Of course, she had to zhuzh it up a little with some stickers!

I made the brace from 5mm EVA foam and velcro for the back closure. Katherine is based on who I was at the age of 12, and while I was never lucky enough to have a back brace (my doctor’s “watchful waiting” turned into negligence and eventual spinal fusion), I wanted Katherine to share in the scoliosis experience with me.
