Yo, it's Umi. Remember when I asked if you wanted to hear about my DSMP OC? Well congrats, you get a whole story. Format's gonna be a bit chaotic, but oh well...
One night, Technoblade returns home to find a masked stranger in his house (weirdly enough, nothing has been stolen except 10 pieces of raw mutton). His first instinct is to draw his sword, but the intruder stops him by saying they simply want temporary housing to regain strength after a rough fight. They add that they're a capable fighter and are willing to work for lodging and food. And for whatever reason, they don't seem scared or intimidated, just tired.
Techno is understandably suspicious (cuz we all know what happened last a kid invaded his house), believing them to have an ulterior motive, so he bluntly states he'd rather kill them. After some persistence, however, he tells them they can stay if they clear the surrounding area of mobs until sunrise. Then he leaves to "go on an errand", when in reality he's just hiding, expecting the home invader to rob his place and run off. To his surprise though, they end up doing exactly what he told them to; even with injuries. TB concludes that the kid must be from elsewhere, as very few SMP inhabitants would pass up a chance to cause damage to him or his property. They don't even seem to have knowledge of his (fairly renowned) fighting capability. As promised, he gives them shelter and some more food, and the stranger introduces themselves as "Weap". TB is still mildly distrustful of them and tries to keep them as occupied as possible so they won't get a chance to strategize/plan an attack on him. From killing mobs to mining to trading with villagers, though Techno has to help them with the last part since they seem very clueless about socializing. He also attempts to observe them and gain info about their behaviour, but their masked appearance gives him no clues as to their origins. Except that they have a ravenous appetite for meat in particular.
As days pass, Weap is shown to be very hard-working and dedicated, but concerningly compliant. They rarely initiate conversation and do everything they're asked to (unless it's about showing their face), even if the request is ridiculous. Techno does this a lot in an attempt to ragebait them. Not just for shits and giggles, but to try and crack them, see if he can find a semblance of rebellion underneath that indifferent mask. To his disappointment, Weap doesn't seem to realize or appreciate his attempt at humour. Rude. And of course, Techno isn't concerned. At all. Why should he be? Weap reminds him of those L'manburg civilians who just follow orders and never question authority. Another member of the herd who can't think for themselves. Weap is leaving once they've regained strength anyways, so it's not like they'll be his problem for long enough to try to reach out.
One day, though, things change. At this point, Techno's tried to distance himself from Weap, so he's out in the Nether mining for valuables. When he returns home, he's shocked to see a Wither by his house engaging in a violent battle with Weap. Since they've never fought a Wither before, they're on the losing side (despite having gotten some good hits in). However, they continue to fight persistently until the Wither tears a deep gash in their chest, making them fall to their knees. This is enough to get Techno to jump in and off the Wither immediately. Panicking, he quickly picks Weap up, carrying them inside to check for injuries. It's then he realizes the Wither knocked off their mask. And he's stunned to see that behind the mask is the face of a zombie.
Well, that at least explains the ravenous appetite.
TB figures Weap is probably some kind of mob hybrid, like Ranboo and Sam, since they have human intelligence. Smart choice to hide the mask, though. Otherwise people would've probably mistaken them for an actual zombie and tried to kill them. After inspecting the chest wound, TB realizes someone must have summoned the Wither to go after his house, but in the moment, doesn't spare it much thought. Eventually, Weap wakes up. TB asks them why they tried to fight the Wither, why they didn't just run away. Weap reveals that they couldn't let the mob destroy Techno's house.
Safe to say, TB is speechless. Because who in the actual hell goes through all that pain just to defend a house? That's not even theirs? Before he can say something though, Weap interjects. They tell him not to worry about them. As a half-zombie, Weap is practically immortal and can withstand a lot of damage without dying. The only thing that can permanently kill them is damaging the mechanical heart keeping them alive. Which is why they fell over when the Wither slashed at their chest. In their words, pain isn't important as long as they're functional and can finish the job, especially when it comes to protecting something important.
This is where Techno realizes just how damaged Weap is. Their stoicism and loyalty aren't genuine personality traits; they're trauma responses. Techno is not good at comforting. So he doesn't say any of this out loud, but he does ask one thing:
T: What do you really want, Weap?
W: *furrows brows* What do you mean? Shelter. I thought... that was obvious.
T: *snorts* Sure, yeah, but your old injuries have gotta be healed by now. You got no reason to stay here anymore. So why do you?"
A shadow falls over Weap's face. They twiddle their thumbs together as if at a loss for words. Then they sigh, pulling something out from underneath their jacket. A crumpled map. Techno narrows his eyes as they straighten it out as best they can. "A while back, I ... I escaped from a training facility," they begin. "My corpse was used as an experiment to create the first immortal soldier. Before death, I was someone else. And I guess a part of me wants to find out who I was, because I couldn't be who she wanted me to be."
"My resurrector, handler, whatever." Weap looks away, eyes downcast as if ashamed. "But to be honest, I don't even know if what I'm doing is worth it. I don't know what I am, if not a weapon. I tried to find my family, but knowing what I've become, will they even accept me? I guess ... I guess I thought I'd just stay here."
Techno's expression is unreadable as he observes Weap. "Did you think staying here would solve your identity crisis or somethin'?" he asks carefully.
Weap shrugs, frustration evident in their movements. "I don't know! I just ... you were nice. You gave me food and taught me how to trade. Just now, you saw my face and didn't even question it. Guess staying just felt like the safer option to going home and risking rejection."
"That's a concerningly low bar," Techno comments bluntly.
Weap blushes, the second display of ACTUAL emotion Techno's seen from them all day. Or any day, really. "Shut the hell up."
That gets a legitimate laugh out of Techno, which only makes Weap more offended. Finally, his ragebaiting efforts have paid off somewhat.
"Alright, don't start swearing though. You're gonna get me demonetized."
After he's calmed down, TB decides he needs to put his foot down regarding certain things.
"So this 'handler' you mentioned," he says. "Is she immortal too?"
Weap frowns. "No, it's just me."
"Ah, great," Techno answers, pulling out a Netherite sword from a nearby chest. "That makes this easier, then."
Weap's eyes widen as they stare at the blade. "Wh - wait, wait, hold on, what are you gonna do with that?"
"Oh y'know, just offer her my help," Techno answers casually. "If she's that into necromancy, she probably wants to test out whether afterlives exist." He pauses. "Welp. At least that's what I was going to do."
Weap looks on in confusion as they're tossed the Netherite sword. "You're in charge of your life, Weap. Not me, not your resurrector, not anyone. Just you. So I'll ask you again: What do you really want?"
T: You don't gotta answer right now. Just think about it. I'm gonna go farm somethin'.
He leaves Weap in uncertain silence. And they begin to think. What did they actually want? When was the last time they'd actually done something for themselves? Sure, they'd escaped E, but they still found themselves acting the way she'd "programmed" them to. Be silent, follow orders, don't ask questions, don't express your own wants or needs. As stifling and horrible as it was to live that way, Weap realized they also found it ... comforting, in a twisted way. Predictable. No need to think, just listen and be rewarded for it. They'd thought Techno might be like E, but ... he wasn't. He WANTED them to be rebellious. To ask questions and talk back. To have their own opinions and ambitions. But why? How would that benefit HIM? Weap was confused. They really didn't understand Techno at all. But ... maybe they could try to understand themselves a little better. This was a safe place to do so, after all.
Days pass, and Techno and Weap's dynamic shifts. T basically made it clear that Weap could stay for as long as they needed. The latter gets more comfortable making jokes and exploring their interests, like reading (they discuss greek mythology with Techno). They're still not quite emotionally prepared to journey home yet due to insecurity and paranoia. Part of it is also because of their "hunger", which is very particular for zombies.
(Basically, when Weap doesn't receive sufficient sustenance, they lose more control over their body/mind and become more violent and impulsive. To prevent this, Weap eats animals or their own body parts when they can't find humans. Animals keep the beastly instincts at bay, but doesn't diminish the hunger as much. 10 pieces of raw mutton equate to 1 human body.)
Techno helps them with this and is fairly nonjudgmental about it, since he knows what it's like to have murderous urges (the voices).
That's about it for Weap's lore for now :> (they eventually develop a sibling dynamic with Techno). It's chaotic, I know, but this has been in my drafts for ages and I don't have the patience to edit it any longer
ok so I just logged into this account randomly and like HELLO PEAK
oughhhhh I love it I love it so much this is really really interesting, I think you've probably posted this elsewhere at this time (saw a fic be sent to cala I think? haven't read it yet obviously but I'll try to remember to sometime) but yeah wow I do not have good articulation but really good 👍👍
