Patrick’s first solo appearance was at the SXSW Music Festival in March of 2010. He played “As Long As I Know I’m Getting Paid,” “Love Selfish Love,” a cover of Bobby Womack’s “If You Think You’re Lonely Now,” and this song, which he hasn’t released (commonly referred to as “Phonebook”).  Rather than playing with a backing band as he did the following year, Patrick played each instrument and looped the sounds to create the song–which was both complicated and probably stressful for his first public appearance as a solo artist (without the technical assistance he had in Fall Out Boy). It was a bumpy ride.  About 50 seconds into this song, his guitar cable comes unplugged leading to a moment that I wish was less comical than it is, though he recovered nicely.

I should add he’s played Phonebook publicly one other time: at the GBS Foodstock concert on October 31, 2009.  Someone’s uploaded a video of that performance (with slightly different lyrics) here.
