I’m terrible about updating my own fic, even if I’ve got a whole outline of the entire story. Still can’t get enough Jeronica though. Need to find motivation to actually complete a large project.
Maybe I should just RP it instead?

No, dude, are you kidding me? You saved your dad’s life.
I’m so glad someone did a gifset of this. My favorite smile of 2x01.
Fixed it.

This is just so good. <3
Thank you, Riverdale, for creating a moment for my shipper heart.
someone just brought to my attention that people say “jughead and veronica isn’t a good ship they don’t have anything in common” and i just want to list down reasons why jughead x veronica doesn’t need to be a romantic ship and yet it is, and it’s so secure on its own even if this pairing has had only 10-15 minutes of interaction in all the 8 episodes combined
for starters, if you think they have absolutely nothing in common, think again: their fathers are two of the shadiest people on this show, and we haven’t even met hiram lodge yet, nor has the entirety of fp’s character been fleshed out. jug and veronica can bond and lament over this, even as friends, and they’d comfort each other on the fact that their dads have disappointed them in ways they didn’t even imagine. did you see veronica’s face when her mom practically told her that “our life, our luxury has been founded on your father’s deals”? darling veronica, who most likely grew up as daddy’s little girl and she had this perfect image of him being some kind of noble, stable role model. and we have jughead who can’t stand seeing his dad crumble into ruin that he left and picked homelessness because fp wasn’t even taking care of him.
they can also bond over their mothers disappointing them. yes. i said that. look, i know hermione was just standing by hiram and acted as his proxy. but hermione has been in on hiram’s shady deals all this time. even if hermione would most likely tell veronica “we did all this for you, to give you, to give us a good life”, veronica, based on her characterization in the show, is still the kind of person who would be hesitant to forgive, and also disappointed if the means to justify a certain end was wrong. as for mrs. jones, we don’t know anything about her other than she left with jellybean (she actually left with jellybean, and not jughead AND jellybean, do you see the problem?) so at some point, probably in season 12, veronica and jughead will finally, finally be allowed to talk to each other and open up to each other how their mothers, of all people, disappointed them like that. you tell me they have nothing in common, but they have so much to talk about, where their parents are concerned. veronica has wounds that jughead will be able to understand and vice versa. i’m absolutely not stating that jug and veronica are the only two people in riverdale with disappointing parents (riverdale is the breeding ground for disappointing parents, in case you haven’t been watching) and i’m not saying jug SHOULD ONLY talk to veronica about this and vice versa. what i am saying is that the opportunity to talk about their parents will come up eventually, especially when they find out fp and hermione were both in on the same deal. and they’ll realize they understand each other a lot more than when they just saw each other as annoying clichés.
“…but this place is strictly In Cold Blood” “Riverdale’s very own In Cold Blood”. i get it, they said these to other people (namely, betty) and not to each other. they didn’t even say these lines in the same episode! but let me ask you this: why, as a writer, would you write two characters who haven’t been friends for very long, and who are of opposing personalities, to reference the exact same thing? have you heard kevin mention In Cold Blood? has valerie mentioned this? has cheryl? apparently, In Cold Blood is some kind of reference that is dead to all the other teenagers on this show except jughead and veronica. i know, i know, in the pilot, archie said he knew the works of truman capote, and betty made a face that clearly said, “i call bullshit, why is he laughing when he doesn’t even know what veronica’s talking about?” i can understand betty’s expression considering how she’s the one with the writing internship. but so far, jug and ronnie are both the only people who seem to have a clear understanding of what In Cold Blood really is. now, i know everyone on this show had a chance to make a reference to something at least once. but, again, i’m wondering why the writers decided to give In Cold Blood to jug and ronnie specifically. that can’t be a coincidence. (although since i’m watching riverdale, it probably is. hope has no place in this show.) maybe the writers left this little detail for them to come back to in season 12, probably, when they actually allow jug and ronnie to talk for twenty minutes, at least. because these two pretentious little nerds will definitely bond over capote’s work. and possibly other obscure references.
they’re both outsiders. i don’t think jug has ever really felt quite in place among the rest of riverdale, except in the bubble he lives in with archie, and even then, he’s always understood how he and archie lead entirely different lives. ronnie, being the new girl, and “already the blue jasmine at riverdale high” considers riverdale as her chance to start over, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel out of place sometimes. she’s been welcomed, yes, but i think ronnie is still in that place where she’s trying to figure everyone out and be everyone’s friend, not because she’s a people-pleaser, but because she’s still trying to find her place. and because she’s one of the kindest, most big-hearted kids in the show.
i’m going to use the “they have nothing in common” argument as a reason for their dynamic to actually work. see, it’s not just the “opposites attract” thing that people always say. it’s the fact that, based on their psyches, if jug and ronnie were to interact, their personalities would clash a lot and it would be entertaining to watch. they’d start unknowingly out-sassing each other a lot, until it becomes a recurring theme of theirs to bicker a lot. it would be the comic relief we’d look forward to while we agonize over the other characters’ angst and theorize over who killed who on the show. and it’s exciting, in terms of slow-burn relationships, to watch people who have “nothing in common” actually find one thing they have in common and then bond over it, and then develop a dynamic because of it. it would be exciting if their bickering turns into friendship, and their friendship turns into who knows what else (not that it has to). the more you tell me they have “nothing in common”, the more i believe in the potential of their pairing.
they are cliché, and yet they are more than their cliché. this is how beautiful their pairing is: they meet the requirements of the “two characters from completely different worlds are forced to put their differences aside for the mission and work together towards a common goal, and end up realizing their prejudice was misguided and they each discover there’s more to the other person than meets the eye and develop a (platonic/romantic) relationship afterwards” trope. you can’t tell me you’re not interested to see this unfold on your screen. you’re either lying or you just really hate cole sprouse, probably. i don’t know.
i know riverdale has so many other tropes and clichés and relationships with potential, so go, feel free to make your own posts about them. no one’s stopping you. but this is about jug and ronnie and why they make up a very justifiable pairing with lots of potential. plus, their adventures would be thrilling to see. oh, and would you look at that: they’re the pairing who will excel both as a friendship and a relationship. now, isn’t that a quality ship?
One of the most detailed and comprehensive posts about Jeronica and why it works on so many levels. Thank you.
