@somethingstronger
something I very much needed to read today
“When you start to know someone, all their physical characteristics start to disappear. You begin to dwell in their energy, recognize the scent of their skin. You see only the essence of the person, not the shell. That’s why you can’t fall in love with beauty. You can lust after it, be infatuated by it, want to own it. You can love it with your eyes and your body but not your heart. And that’s why, when you really connect with a person’s inner self, any physical imperfections disappear, become irrelevant.”
— Lisa Unger (via quotemadness)
— tom macrae, doctor who: the girl who waited (2011)
the best thing about the moon and the sky and the stars is that while you can't ever take a picture of them that does them justice......you don't need to. they're gonna be there tomorrow
grace
once in highschool i saw a girl i didn’t even know very well laugh while eating her lunch, then drool into her lap, then look around absolutely mortified to check if anyone saw her–of course i pretended i didn’t, but inside i was absolutely alive with delight. because i had been there, feeling that exact shame and panic, and i felt like, if i could forgive her, so easy, so happily, maybe i could rely on the world giving me that same grace.
maybe every time i pulled a handle marked push, or tripped over a curb, or drooled laughing, or couldn’t open a plastic bag at the grocery store while everyone behind me was waiting, or tried to put something in my pocket and dropped it directly on the ground, maybe someone else could look at me and forgive me for how human i was.
maybe there was nothing to forgive.
From: Today, To: You
Dear You,
I’m trying to be good. I really am. I hear you, every morning, when you look into the mirror and say “Today will be a good day. Today will be a good a day.” I am listening. And I feel awfully sorry when your jeans rip or your test comes back at 50%. I really do regret it when it rains on your field trip or the boss at your job makes you stay past closing.
I’m not complaining, I understand. However, I must say, it sort of hurts my feelings when you curse at me and such. It hurts my feelings when you say “today was a waste! A total waste!” Are those my only two options? I must be a good day or else I am not a day at all, but an emptiness?
For the record, I like being your day, even when it doesn’t seem like it. I like waking up with you, even when you’re counting split ends and breaking out on your nose. I like being your day even when no one talks to you on the bus and you feel like crying into your pillow for hours. I like being yours.
I know sometimes I’m not very good. I know sometimes it feels like that’s all I ever am: disappointing, one long drawn out sigh, a series of mornings with bad milk and shoes that make your feet hurt. But sometimes it feels like there’s too many rules for me to follow if I’m being honest.
I can never seem to get it right with either too many people noticing you or not enough. Too much time spent on your phone and not enough doing things you hate, but must do anyway. I am always wrong about bedtime and snacking and remembering to floss.
And I know … it’s been getting worse. I know you’ve locked the door and said: that’s enough. I’m tired. I won’t come out again. Not until I have only clever words to say, and look good in the clothes my mother buys me. I won’t come back out again until it hurts a little less to exist.
I know it’s my fault.
But I miss you. I miss walking with you to the park and watching leaves fall. I miss singing off-key in the shower and dancing alone in your living room. I miss licking up ice-cream up from your wrist when it melts and crying at stupid movies where the dog comes home. I miss the way you used to look forward to me even when I wasn’t always good or happy or beautiful.
So, please, don’t give up on me. Put down the sharpest bits, I can’t promise anything, I’m only just a day, small and weak and silly, but I miss you. I miss taking your hand, even when you’ve been biting your nails, I miss the way sometimes you have so much to say it all pours out at once. I miss your quiet days as well when your full of thoughts and watching rain storms.
So don’t give up on me.
From,
Today
“When I ask you about your first love I am always secretly hoping that you will say your own name. Now, wouldn’t that be beautiful – to above else have a heart that was proud of itself.”
— Bianca Sparacino
what if when icarus fell apollo caught him before he hit the sea, arms as warm as the sun, but safer.
what if when ariadne cast the rope across a broken branch aphrodite stepped in with a reminder that this, this is not the kind of love you die for.
what if when achilles was ready for war ares appeared with a smile and said “you win well when you win, but what are you unwilling to lose if you lose?” and achilles knew the answer.
if you could retell the tale wouldn’t you want to tell it kinder? wouldn’t you want to give them peace, even love, where you could?

just found out that if i stay in my room all the time my life will eventually shrink to the size of it and i will lose all memory of how to function as a person. shocked & upset

Stop chasing people. If they block you, cut off contact, ignore you… Let them go. Let those who naturally gravitate to you enjoy your energy. We spend so much time begging for those who wouldn’t blink twice at the thought of you. Cherish those who are there by choice, and not there because you chased them every time they decided to escape.

Update: it is not unreasonable for me to want the important people in my life to actively pursue a relationship with me.

Gotta reblog the same two posts every time I gotta remind myself of them
When Adam bit the apple he did it because he trusted Eve. Because he loved her. Adam bit into the apple because the woman he loved told him to, no matter what God said. No matter the rules of heaven. What’s heaven to a woman’s love anyway? What’s God to your wife? The first sins of humanity, were trusting others. Eve trusted a snake, Adam trusted Eve, and I trust you. Maybe that’s a sin, just like the first couple. Maybe everyone’s right about us and we’re sinners and we offend God. But like I said, what’s God to a woman’s love anyway? What has heaven got that I can’t find sitting next to you on a cool autumn morning?
when Lemony Snicket wrote “I will love you if I never see you again, and I will love you if I see you everyday” that hurt me
“I will love you if I never see you again, and I will love you if I see you every Tuesday. I will love you as the starfish loves a coral reef and as kudzu loves trees, even if the oceans turn to sawdust and the trees fall in the forest without anyone around to hear them. I will love you as the pesto loves the fettuccini and as the horseradish loves the miyagi, and the pepperoni loves the pizza. I will love you as the manatee loves the head of lettuce and as the dark spot loves the leopard, as the leech loves the ankle of a wader and as a corpse loves the beak of the vulture. I will love you as the doctor loves his sickest patient and a lake loves its thirstiest swimmer. I will love you as the beard loves the chin, and the crumbs love the beard, and the damp napkin loves the crumbs, and the precious document loves the dampness of the napkin, and the squinting eye of the reader loves the smudged document, and the tears of sadness love the squinting eye as it misreads what is written. I will love you as the iceberg loves the ship, and the passengers love the lifeboat, and the lifeboat loves the teeth of the sperm whale, and the sperm whale loves the flavor of naval uniforms. I will love you as a drawer loves a secret compartment, and as a secret compartment loves a secret, and as a secret loves to make a person gasp… I will love you until all such compartments are discovered and opened, and all the secrets have gone gasping into the world. I will love you until all the codes and hearts have been broken and until every anagram and egg has been unscrambled. I will love you until every fire is extinguished and rebuilt from the handsomest and most susceptible of woods. I will love you until the bird hates a nest and the worm hates an apple. I will love you as we find ourselves farther and farther from one another, where once we were so close… I will love you until the chances of us running into one another slip from slim to zero, I will love you until your face is fogged by distant memory. I will love you no matter where you go and who you see, I will love you if you don’t marry me. I will love you if you marry someone else–and i will love you if you never marry at all, and spend your years wishing you had married me after all. That is how I will love you even as the world goes on its wicked way.”
