Some Thoughts on Identity vs. Role Confusion
Eighteen is the age you think you’re mature but really don’t know what the fuck you’re doing. As your old hobbies, interests, and ideas of the world fade away, a wide array of things rush in to fill the void. That is, from what I’ve noticed, the biggest psychological change in turning 18 and graduating High School. Personally, I’ve allowed school to fill that void. College, when approached correctly, provides a structured and healthy way to get feedback on your life and what you accomplish. However, I assume there are hundreds, if not thousands of ways to approach this transition productively. And, no matter what path you take to find your newest reference group, one thing will remain the same: a fuck-ton of anxiety and confusion. After all, you are rewiring your habits, sense of self, and thought patterns to match your quickly changing environment, that’s a lot of shit for anyone to go through.
