Intamin wipes at his optics clumsily, as if the well of emotion in his chest had become too much to bear though he no longer has eyes to cry with. He flaps his hands and dispels all doubt, shaking his head forcefully and offering the audience a sad smile.
"I am oft asked; what does it mean to be a mechagnome? And I always think to respond that, gears, you must question what it is not if I am to make you understand.
For I look to Mechagon and I see no purpose there. The city holds no more smiling faces, all perished in the coup, nor does it even boast an estate still warm with the memories of a family who once loved me, for they never did —
Affection does not dwell in those halls, and though the city may be rid of me … I am not rid of it. I carry its scars in every second of chronic pain, in each moment I see children flinch from my stare ...

I am adrift. Just as my Gnomeregan cousins. Orphaned in the wake of insurmountable loss, freshly-grieving as long-lived folk often do in these unprecedented times. Not for a home that was never mine, but for what I was never given. Happiness. Autonomy. Freedom.
I should tell you: to be a gnome is to have nothing.
But if you were to ask me now ...

This year I had the honor of being approached to do an opening performance for ToA. I've formally stepped down in the wake of everything because it doesn't feel appropriate, but I hope the material I'd had prepared before the announcement still resonates.
I've been attending The Tournament of Ages since its inception. For years I've seen this community grow into something so deeply wonderful and full of genuinely lovely, creative individuals. Being approached to contribute in a big way was beyond touching ... but I cannot ignore what is going on right now, and the fact of the matter is that performing alongside an acknowledgment of tragedy doesn't feel appropriate, especially when my time block can be used more productively.
Your time in Azeroth, the people you've met, the friendships you've shared, the perfect, never-again gatherings you've been lucky enough to experience — those are still yours, if you choose to keep them as fond memories. I know I do.
SURPRISE! The boys are happy to announce that they'll be serving as Mechagon & Gnomeregan's racial representatives this upcoming Tournament fo Ages! Learn a little bit about them and check out their cultural outfits! Art by @neo_kajatrash.
Big ups to both @shioshark and @TheDawnsHeart for lending their expertise in designing these outfits for us! I wanted it to be a group effort that exemplified accessibility, Titanic imagery, and complimentary color palettes. I can't recommend working with them enough!
As for what this entails, we’ll be planning a few things to shine a spotlight on the gnome roleplay community at large through interactive events and market opportunities. Keep an eye on this space! 👐

They always seem to completely understand Indy’s character and dynamic with his interpersonal conflict and loved ones.
A daily routine on a melancholy midway consists of:

Summary: Intamin and Sooty are taking the stage on Friday in a duet. The gap between them has never felt wider, but Azeroth still spins and there's still coin to be made despite the distance. Rehearsal demands focus and teamwork; something in short supply.

Their world had grown quiet, but despite it all, Azeroth still spins.
Sooty sat patiently, waiting for a breakfast guest who never came. Intamin took his coffee cold on the balcony with only the hum of the Great Forge as his company. The space between them at night might as well have been some vast, uncharted ocean none of them could ever possibly hope to cross.
For Intamin, Ironforge had never felt like home. Not really, no matter how many times Sooty had insisted it to be so. His things did not clutter the shelves. There was no favorite cafe to frequent. There was no ramp to climb and sometimes he felt himself cry with the effort to ascend their staircase. Ironforge wasn’t home.
But Sooty was.
Yet even that’s a comfort that’s called into question. Sooty swears he sees less and less of the mechagnome each and every day — work had always kept them busy, but it’s impossible not to notice the way Intamin disappears on their once-sleepy afternoons. Sooty likes to think he’s not stupid enough to ignore the signs, but he thanks every star that he’s not stupid enough to cry about it, either.
So he shuts his mouth, pinches a smile, clasps his hands, and imagines that, with this compromise, Azeroth still spins.
Each passing sunrise brings a silent promise; you’re to perform in four days, now three, now two. They don their masks and take the stage on the furthest end of the Finest’s camp, where they were close enough to the falls that the lull of their anxious heartbeats was but another roar that fell on deaf ears.
Intamin hasn’t touched him in what felt like a life-time. Sooty doesn’t want to recall that night in Thunder Bluff; he doesn’t want to linger on the way Intamin’s hand felt in his, or how he was close enough to smell him when he’d been carried in his arms. But now, it’s hard to think of anything but that absence as they go through the motions, the mechagnome’s form a flickering blur that gives Sooty a wide berth each time they’re to eclipse during their performance.
But now Sooty’s back in his arms, chests flush, just like the script had called for. He’s crooning like a trapped songbird when Intamin encroaches on his space and slips his hands over his hips, possessive. Sooty’s bent over, over, further, enough for his spine to crack and his voice to jump up a few octaves.
Neither of them are quite so sure when it happens. All they know is that their eyes are on each other’s and it’s like they’re in Azshara all over again, stumbling over their first kiss. The music skips, their cue forgotten, lost to the white noise of the falls. The dark of the coming twilight sets Sooty’s eyes ablaze with an arcanic warmth, the dying embers of a fire Intamin long-thought extinguished, holding on despite it all. In this moment, with the little mage dipped beneath him, Intamin realizes what he’d stolen from his lover.
Intamin wants to cry, to apologize, to ask permission. No one had ever taught him how to love. Mechanized hands could never hold Sooty like he deserved. But Sooty’s eyes are closed, and they love each other, and didn’t Stannum ever tell him not to leave a good thing waiting?
It’s dry and awkward, at least at first; a mere press of the lips, a shuddery exhale that’s coupled with a pinching pressure at Sooty’s waist. Yet the mage slips his hands up and pulls Intamin closer by the neck, mumbling a sigh that he swears sounds like a sob. So he pushes himself into Sooty’s mouth and rumbles against him, noses nuzzling, optics shut.
It feels like all his love is leaking out of every metal seam like a gouged battery. Intamin’s hands are shaking so hard that his neural console is trying to recalibrate its gyroscopics; But Sooty kisses back and presses a warm set of fingers up against his, his, only his. They think of Stormsong and sailing and the way their choppy heartbeats echo the churning of a windmill; how surely the fleetingness of this love would burn them alive and that maybe, maybe one of them would rise like a phoenix from the ashes.
But still, Intamin and Sooty kiss each other, entirely and with the full of themselves, and despite it all … Azeroth still spins.
Quick tutorial of how I put gradient line breaks in my TRP! Fair warning that I’m not sure how these affect loading time; I just thought this was far easier to do than the other alternative method I found floating around on Twitter.
