means the games are basically always going to be under 1gb

which is way more than they need to be, but if your main goal is “fits on a cd”, then it really doesn’t any sense to compress the audio more

also like, honestly after a certain point there's just no point in making games much smaller anyway these days like, most people i know have hundreds or thousands of gigabytes of storage, it doesn't really matter if a game is one gig or five other than as a technical challenge, or if you want to distribute it on a CD

it has definitely become less of a concern over time, that’s true.

but it is worth keeping in mind that not everyone has access to high speed internet or near endless storage.

the newer games are losslessly compressed from what I can tell, which is nice (given that there’s really no reason not to). whether reducing game size by 50% by making the bgm mp3 would be a good tradeoff is a bit more complicated for sure.

this and also the only difference between fanfic writers and writers who sell their own original works as careers is that fanfics aren’t monetized. that’s all.

being a “professional” writer doesn’t mean your works are inherently better than fanfics. I’ve read so many fics that are more professionally written than some published books.

whether or not a piece of writing is monetized has nothing to do with its quality.
