Okay, so I think Blaze X Wave would be a good ship. Opinion?

Well, obviously I don’t have any in-game interactions to observe, but going off personalities alone they don’t seem to mesh very well. Blaze is an introverted but friendly (when you get past her shell) princess whose primary concerns are her duties and keeping people around her safe, while Wave is an extreme braggart about her extreme gear prowess, is very abrasive and doesn’t seem to have a goal other than to prove her superiority. Honestly, I would sooner think that Blaze would just make her shell even thicker if she interacted with Wave rather than letting her in to her close circle of friends, let alone spark romantic feelings. 

This is why interaction in the games would help since I’m running off hypotheticals alone.

You know, it’s been like two years since the last post and I’ve got two observations based on this;

1. There hasn’t really been anything to sink the teeth into since Generations. Maybe I should look over Sonic Runners some time and see if I can update based on that, or wait to see what the 25th anniversary holds.

2. The fact that there’s not a single female/female ship on here shows how much they get to interact with each other. :/

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; Super SonicXEbony

Characters involved: Super Sonic and Ebony the Cat.

Most well known nickname: Messed up. 

Original date of ship: 1997.

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don’t ship it): Super Sonic in Fleetway is not just Sonic gone Super Saiyan. He's an alternate persona bent on destruction and death. But when he lost his memories for a while, Ebony was the one to take him in and had faith in his ability to do good. It went alright for a while...and then it all fell apart. So she restored him to being good again, but he started dying so she had to find Chaos Energy to keep him alive, and this made him go off the rails again and try to kill people. She thusly saved him by being a jerk and putting him back into Sonic's body. And that the last story in Sonic the Comic ever.

In Sonic the Comic Online, she tried to prove that he was good by making Sonic power up on Chaos energy in desperate times, but that turned out to be very false. Nonetheless, she's still likely coo coo for coco puffs. There's no real reason for Super Sonic to like her.

Personal Opinion: Neutral...but it's still very surreal. Seriously, this woman is insane. 

Likelihood in the games: Aside from Ebony not existing in the games, Super Sonic in Fleetway works entirely different to any other Super Sonic in any other medium. She wouldn't have a chance to bond with him after he gets separated from normal Sonic and losing memories, because he's not a different entity. That, and she sees him more as a friend than any sort of romantic interest. This is one bond that is just really bizarre.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; CharmyXSaffron

Characters involved: Charmy Bee and Saffron Bee.

Most well known nickname: ...Uh...

Original date of ship: 1998, with Saffron's debut.

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don’t ship it): Let me start by pointing this out; when Saffron was introduced, Charmy was 16. 

Saffron was initially only meant to be with Charmy over an arranged agreement (he's a prince in Archie and Fleetway). Charmy doesn't want jack to do with it, but he eventually accepted his responsibilities and went back to the Golden Hive Colony for a bit. The only thing either of them do after this is cause Finitevus to exist (nice going there).

Next time we see either of them, there home has been blown up, so Saffron had to hang with the gang. She was supposed to die here, but didn't, so she stayed on as a member of the Chaotix through the time where Charmy received brain damage which made him act like a six year old (nope still not going to leave that sleeping dog to lie), up until the point where she too was gone forever. 

I guess the support for this is because of the sheer support Saffron has shown for her fiance through thick and thin. That's about all her character has to her personality though. Seriously, give me one other trait she has. 

Personal Opinion: You know, this mirrors KnucklesXJulie-Su in a lot of ways. So, why don't I have the same vitrolic hate with this one? Simply put, she hasn't dominated the panel time away from other characters for the sake of the relationship. That, and Charmy's circumstances for the last 75-ish issues have been so awkward that she wasn't really affecting things positively or negatively in terms of character interaction. 

Likelihood in the games: Saffron doesn't exist in the games, so none. Even if she did somehow get in there one day, there's the little thing about Charmy being six in the games and not sixteen. Can't have her have the same relationship as in the comic with an infant. 

But again, she's been hit by the Penders thing, is likely gone for good, and there's a chance that he won't remember her (this time). Even worse, his age might even be retconned to six to eliminate the whole brain damage thing (even Ian doesn't like that in retrospect), so she couldn't resume the same relationship if she came back. This is one couple that is likely like the Golden Hive colony and blown to smithereens.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; SonicXElise

I really should have done this one in the initial run. It's too infamous!

Characters involved: Sonic the Hedgehog and Princess Elise III. Hang on, how is she a princess if her father is just a duke? Shouldn't she be Duchess Elise?

Most well known nickname: Sonelise.

Original date of ship: 2006. The same year it ended. 

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don’t ship it): Oh, goody gumdrops. Well, Sonic rescued Elise several times, and carried her around a lot. She was thankful in return for him saving her and giving her a taste of freedom, and seemed to develop and crush because of it. It wasn't all one way though; Sonic acted a bit bashful in some scenes when she spoke to him, and there was the option of choosing her as his true love in the Trial of Love. Why the hell is there a Trial of Love in the first place?

Now, what do the detractors have against it. For a start, the detractors form a rare majority for the couple 'interest'. But outside of that. it is often seen as forced in and not very well developed, Elise is seen as an uninteresting character, and then there's the squick in a human being having the hots for an anthropomorphic creature. Trust me, you'll find these reasons trotted out before you see a reason in support of it. 

Personal Opinion: I...don't give a toss. Sonic '06, admittedly, is a game that I don't hold to heart either positively or negatively. I had to research the cutscenes specifically for ShadowXSilver, but here I didn't need to bother because so many have exposited on how much they hate the couple before I came along and wrote this. Despite all the hatred, My reaction is a resounding "Meh". I will say this though; given Sonic's insistence of putting the charms on pretty much every humanoid female he comes across, having one develop a crush on him is not that out of line in tone for the series. 

Likelihood in the games: It was kind of implied throughout the story in Sonic '06...then time reset itself so the adventure never happened, and Elise never met Sonic. And she never appeared in another story again. You can pretty much toss it in the "no chance" pile.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; KnucklesXJulie-Su

I could have sworn I made an entry for this couple before, but whatevs. 

Characters involved: Knuckles the Echidna and Julie-Su the Echidna.

Most well known nickname: Knuxsu. Or Knux-Su.

Original date of ship: 1997, with Julie-Su's debut (in-universe as well as out)

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don’t ship it): It was always in Ken's plans to make Julie-Su and Knuckles an item. The soultouch which made them soulmates forever and ever was introduced in the very issue she debuted in, she's been involved in a good chunk of the adventures Knuckles has been on (although that was true of Ian and Karl's runs too), they've been steady boyfriend and girlfriend for a few years now and there's the fact that they're together in the future (which is one of the stipulations Penders has for the use of his characters...I'll cover that later). 

As for the actual chemistry? Well, they're sort of an example of being very similar in personality. They're both good fighters, both dealing with family issues (or supposed to be; see below), both temperamental (although Julie-Su is less so) and both empathise with the situation that they had been placed in. Had.

As for reasons against? Just keep reading. 

Personal Opinion: FUCKING SOULTOUCH. 

I hate this couple. It is without a doubt my least favourite Sonic couple in any medium, and I don't have any investment in Knuckles' character whatsoever. The circumstances to get them to start bonding are contrived as hell, the interaction between her and him to make sure that they became an item came at the expense of the rest of the Knuckles cast, Julie-Su's character relies on Knuckles in a way even the most avid Sally haters cannot say Sally does with Sonic. Her traumas are treated as unimportant footnotes while she spends her time comforting Knuckles, and there's the fact that one of my other most hated characters for how glorified she is (Lara-Su) forces the couple to have to be in the future as well. It is just so infuriating. 

One point for it though; it is set in stone time and again that they do not want to marry at all and instead feel confident enough in their relationship to stay committed without a ceremony. Call it tacky if you want, but it's not done that often in fiction, and I have an aunt who went that same route so I have close-hand experience with a couple like that. 

Likelihood in the games: Prior to #244; As much as I hate it, it is the defacto couple in the Archie comics. Not only are they very much in the 'will they' part of 'will they won't they', they're as supportive of each other than ever. 

But talking about the games? No chance. Not just because Julie-Su isn't in the games, but any niche she could have filled is taken by Shade since she's pretty much an expy. And I've already explained how she won't appear again.

Post-#244/252 (maybe); ...Geebus. Even if I do hate it the most, I wouldn't have wished this on it. It has gotten truly, royally screwed where it hurts the most. Because of Penders coming in, taking his characters and then trying to dictate to Archie and SEGA what they can and can't do on their own property, it looks like Julie-Su and Knuckles can never, ever interact again. And the second Genesis wave has the possibility of removing her from his memories. Just...ouch. 

The worst thing is that Julie-Su never got a chance to be her own person, so I'll always see her as that one person who was made to be Knuckles' arm candy and never anything more.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; ShadowXSilver

Characters involved: Shadow the Hedgehog and Silver the Hedgehog.

Most well known nickname: Shadilver. Have to be careful not to confuse the latter part with liver. 

Original date of ship: 2006. Not like there's any other year it could be. 

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don’t ship it): This one was admittedly pretty tricky to analyse fully. For starters, you have Sonic '06, Silver's debut game. Here, they're both played as the rival to Sonic (albeit in different ways), and they're sort of counter-balances for the Mephiles plot (certainly, they're more important to each other there, although Silver's more concerned with Sonic when it comes to Elise). As for the individual interaction? After Silver mistakes Shadow for Mephiles (hey, that Amy's shtick!) and Shadow responds by giving him a kick to the head, they're actually pretty chill, with Shadow offering to show Silver the truth about Mephiles when Silver induces Chaos Control and tells him about the plight, and then working with him to control Solaris in the past. They even get to toss around ideas a bit in the last story. Certainly there's a guidance dynamic between them, and it's certainly more than Silvamy (again with that). But then that got wiped out of their memories so let's move on.

Sonic Rivals came out the very same year, so we don't have to jump far. They're the rivals to each other here, while Sonic has Knuckles to contend with. Once again they start off on a bad note, but this time Silver is the one to reason first and tries to explain to Shadow just why Eggman is acting so funny. While he gets cut short the first time, Shadow's willing to listen by the time they meet a second time, although they still fight to try and get to Eggman first. By the end, they're back to that same working partnership they had in Sonic '06...and then it resets a year later in Sonic Rivals 2, where they're more brutal to each other than before, all because Shadow got tricked by Nega (...) and then they go their separate ways. Not too flattering, but then this was also the game that had Rouge of all people go against her colleague in a venomous way, and I've already pointed out how Sonic Rivals 2's position in canon is dubious at best. 

After that, they haven't interacted since, aside from Mario and Sonic London 3DS. At least they were working together there though, with a bit of a red oni blue oni thing. Still, that might be due to the limitations the game put on the cast regarding the categories dictating the story. And only that much after 2006 is pretty poor. 

Personal Opinion: Neutral. To be honest, it hadn't even crossed my mind.

Likelihood in the games: Very unlikely, probably none. Ignoring how prominent Shadow is in the franchise, they just don't have the interaction there to really make it a viable thing. Silver's more likely to hang around around with Blaze for partnering up on his mission (as shown in several games post-Rivals), and Shadow still works with Rouge and Omega when he wants to do something. These missions rarely cross paths nowadays, so you'd be lucky to see them talk to each other again. Although if they do, they'd likely at least be on good terms.

I've got all 24 (I think it was 24) couples that I wanted to cover done. As of now, I'm pretty much sitting on my hands until someone requests a game Sonic couple for me to do themselves. If that never happens then...well...I've got a bunch of reference guides for each major ship done anyway, so it's not like it'd be a waste.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; EspioXMighty

Characters involved: Espio the Chameleon and Mighty the Armadillo.

Most well known nickname: Espighty...okay, I don't know.

Original date of ship: 1995.

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don't ship it): So...yeah. This exists, and it's still relatively popular. They were in Knuckles Chaotix together, but meeting each other wasn't even necessary...and the game most likely isn't canon anyway...erm.

Well, they do have opposites attract, with Espio being the hothead and Mighty being the more pacifistic of the two. Not that it'd really work the modern Espio because he's not a hothead like that. Really, I think the main reason they were shipped in the past and have a bit of a following now is because of either Archie/Fleetway which played them as friendly rivals a bit, or because of the fact they were most popular Chaotix in the classic era and had the most titles of them all not called Knuckles (with 2 each). 

Then Heroes came along. You've seen how that went.

Personal Opinion: Neutral...I suppose. Not that it has much relevance in modern times.

Likelihood in the games: None, Mighty's dead. Not literally dead like Tikal and Maria are, but dead in an overall meta sense. He hasn't appeared since 1995, it's been confirmed that Sonic Team don't want to bring him or other such forgotten characters back, Knuckles Chaotix has effectively been knocked out of canon meaning that the one game they were in together is null and Espio likely doesn't even know Mighty exists thusly, let alone have any sort of opinion on him.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; VectorXEspio

Characters involved: Vector the Crocodile and Espio the Chameleon.

Most well known nickname: Vecpio.

Original date of ship: 2004, really.

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don't ship it): Got to be honest, when Vector and Espio made their debut in 1995, this was crack. They starred in one game together. Even though you could totally avoid having them be partners and thus never have to see both of them outside the combi-catcher. Archie/Fleetway fans would have had a little bit more of an excuse, but not much.

Then Iizuka decided that Heroes needed some more old blood. And they've been practically inseparable since, along with their little kid member Charmy. Unlike with Charmy, who's seen as a sort of tag-along, Vector and Espio hold great respect for each other, even when they're falling into pratfalls due to either one's mistakes. Opposites attracts is partially in motion here with Vector being the loud, bossy and sometimes brash leader while Espio is his soulful and wary back-up. Yet there is also a fair bit of common ground, since neither are exactly humble about themselves, they're both sharp and intelligent men (you'd be surprised how often people forget that about Vector) and they're both passionate about their jobs as detectives (you'd be surprised how often people forget that about Espio). 

And it's not like there hasn't been any interaction between the two. In fact, even when only one of the characters is playable (Mario and Sonic Winter DS AND Mario and Sonic London 3DS AND Sonic Rivals 2, even with it's non-canon-ness), chances are that the other will still managed to be linked in with their story somehow (Mario and Sonic Winter DS has the Whitestone fiasco, where Espio scolded Vector for playing sports instead of finding them when he got distracted [with Vector kind of reacting like someone to a housewife...], Espio being in the Mario and Sonic 3DS story because Vector had sent him to find Sonic, and Espio looking for Chao while communicating with Vector, only to be wrapped up in the Nega plot and later scolded himself for not getting to the bottom of the case which was a result of his lack of communication about the whole situation [and he was concerned more for the business than for Silver who was standing right beside him]). Even when it hasn't been that one on one, you're bound to get some to-and-fro between them when they're in the same scene.

Can it be ascribed to being colleagues? Sure. But it'd have to be damn close colleagues, anyway. 

Personal Opinion: I am totally neutral on it. That's why I can pump out all that lot up there without even thinking about it.

It's my OTP. The reason I'm so neutral for most other pairings is because nearly all my shipping within the Sonic series is focused on them. Just take one glance at my main account and it hits you in seconds. :/

Likelihood in the games: NHDKFKSFKAFKFJASF

That is a translation of how easy it is to judge that. In other words, I have no clue. The best I can say is that it's the most likely slash pairing since both characters are well out the way of the spotlight thus could be gotten away with more. Even then, as the second post of context said, it'd remain low-key and subtle.

After that, there's just so many unknowns that it's hard to compare exactly where it lies on the overall scale.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; VectorXVanilla

Ohhhhhhhhhhh.

So, despite having two game characters, this ship is covered only by the exceptions clause. I think you might have gathered why this one might be controversial...

Characters involved: Vector the Crocodile and Vanilla the Rabbit.

Most well known nickname: Vecnilla. 

Original date of ship: 2005...or whenever episode 39 of Sonic X aired.

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don't ship it): In Sonic X, Vector is infatuated with Vanilla. While Vanilla doesn't explicitly return the affection, Vector still goes out of his way to help her, for a bit of affectionate gratitude. Like Chaream, it works on the poor, rough man/ neat, rich woman dynamic, which again is a Titanic in the making. They spoke a few times throughout season, but it was mainly limited because the Chaotix themselves didn't appear often.

Personal Opinion: Neutral. Vanilla's a cool mom, I'm chill with her.

Likelihood in the games: As it stands, none. 

It comes under the exception clause because there's no evidence of it in the games, it's purely a product of Sonic X at this time. They have never been in a game together for starters, and thus have had no on-screen interaction. Besides that, Vanilla wouldn't exactly appreciate what he puts her daughter through. In Sonic Heroes, Vector's willing to fight her and her team to kidnap a chao on behalf of who he knows to be Dr. Eggman (although he doesn't know any of team Rose at the time). And in the only other game where the two really interact, Sonic Free Riders, while being on better terms with each other, Vector is in it solely for the money and is willing to just leave her and Amy behind once he gets it (which he doesn't. Poor him). Cream even explicitly mentions that her mother is watching her, and Vector doesn't change that view in the slightest. His interest is in business only.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; CreamXCharmy

Characters involved: Cream the Rabbit and Charmy Bee.

Most well known nickname: Chaream.

Original date of ship: 2004.

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don't ship it): Well, it's just about the only other candidate for Cream in the games aside from Taiream. This couple, like quite a few before, works on the principles on opposites attract. Charmy is an scatterbrained, bratty poor boy who doesn't know his parents and works a rough job with his legal guardians as it were, while Cream is a polite fairly well-off girl who lives with her mother in comfort. It's a Titanic in the making. They do have a couple of other similarities though; they both enjoy the innocence of childhood instead of being more mature (like Tails and Marine, even though she acts pretty bratty herself), and they both likely have an interest in flowers and such nature-y stuff. 

For interaction...there really isn't much to go on. They met in Heroes on bad terms (Chaotix wanted to steal Cheese, although Charmy seemed the least concerned about that particular goal), then became on okay terms...? Dunno, they haven't met since, so we haven't had any room to judge.

Personal Opinion: I like this one quite a lot (See? See? Shipping doesn't require logic alone, just the judging of a shipping in canon does!). The contrast here is appealing to me, but it would have to be several years later that anything could work.

Likelihood in the games: Very unlikely. As said, they've met once briefly and never again. Doubt Sega has any interest of pursuing any interaction further, especially with how limited the interaction Charmy has has gotten as is.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; SilverXEspio

Time to get the posts of context out.

Characters involved: Silver the Hedgehog and Espio the Chameleon.

Most well known nickname: Espilver? Is there one?

Original date of ship: 2007

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don't ship it): It's really based on one game, Sonic Rivals 2. In it, Silver comes to the present time to find and stop Eggman Nega. He does this by taking Chao to make sure Nega can't find them and feed them to Ifrit. This inevitably gets noticed by people, and the Chaotix are eventually called to investigate. Espio eventually finds Silver, and Silver slowly explains the Ifrit deal, where the two work together to approach Nega and stop him. By the end, they're on good terms, but Espio doesn't have the gall to talk back to Vector when it turns out that he hadn't explained any of this to him, and ditches Silver to run away from the transmitter. In story, nothing really there, but it's certainly better than Silvamy.

In terms of personality, there isn't much to say. They're kind of similar (although Silver could be said to have been more brash than normal anyway), and Espio gets to talk to someone that isn't in the Chaotix. Nice? Although, unlike the friendship between Sonic and Tails, it isn't close enough that they wouldn't want to fight other if needed (as seen by the multiplayer requirements).

Personal Opinion: Neutral buuuut there's a couple I like way, way more.

Likelihood in the games: Oh dear.

If Sonic Rivals 2 somehow stays in canon, it's still very unlikely. Even considering that Silver is borderline for prominence so he could maybe possibly get away with a homosexual pairing, they haven't really spoken since then, making it seem like it was intended as a one-time partnership like Amy and Silver were in Sonic 06.

However, Mario and London Wii poses a whole different problem. Through Silver's dialogue in party mode, Sega appears to consider Silver as not knowing about chameleons and how they can go invisible (it also rendered Vector playing the keyboard/DJing as non-canon, for another example). This is in direct contradiction with Sonic Rivals 2 where he would, and did, know about these things. As long as these little tidbits are consistent with Sega's thought processes, as well as the things pointed out in the relevant post of context, then the possibility goes down to zero because they haven't met in the way they did then and thus don't know each other beyond a very basic level. Man, Silver gets all the jilting.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; SilverXBlaze

Characters involved: Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat.

Most well known nickname: Silvaze.

Original date of ship: 2006.

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don't ship it): Silvaze has had a very rough history. In terms of characterisation, there's some pretty good ground already; Blaze offers Silver a level-headed figure to counter his naivety and be a support for his uncertainty, and Silver provides Blaze with companionship, which would be a novel concept to Blaze because she's grown up pretty lonely in all her backstories. 

The rest is less easy to sort out; In Sonic 2006, they'd been spending ages fight Iblis before they decide to go along with Mephiles and try to stop Iblis before he can destroy Crisis City (when it wasn't called Crisis City?). By the end of Silver's story, Blaze had heroically sacrificed herself to save the place, and Silver was clearly devastated by her loss. And then Sonic and Elise reset time, making Silver's future not Iblis-ridden (either making it open to Eggman Nega or fixing it for good depending on whether you go with Rivals or Colours, but Generations seems to support the latter), and making Blaze apparently pop up in an alternate dimension. Since they now hadn't met, that would be the end of it, right? That's what the argument against it always is.

While that piece of history has...erm, Silver and Blaze haven't stopped being partnered together. First being unlockables in Zero Gravity together, they then showed up in Mario and Sonic Winter DS as partners who were investigating the sports of Sonic's time and space by taking part in Hockey. They then show up together in Sonic Colours DS, this time Silver having a good future, having being transported there out of nowhere and then taking the time to go around Sweet Mountain, where they notice the trapped Wisps. Sonic Generations just went out and out confusing because Blaze remembered Crisis City, thus meaning that she may or may not recall her time with Silver in Sonic '06 even though she's confirmed to be from an alternate direction. In any case, they're on friendly enough terms to talk to each other during the ending. 

Personal Opinion: Neutral...bordering on like. While I don't like Blaze as a character, this is down to just how bland I think she is. When when working with other character however, she becomes a lot more interesting, and giving her a permanent partner would be a good way to ensure that she gets plenty of interesting moments, whether platonic or romantic. 

Likelihood in the games: Likely. While the events of Sonic '06 were meant to have been erased, their bond seems to not be going anywhere. Sega have brought it up again and again, eventually even leading to the possibility that it wasn't fully erased because of Blaze (although it could just be the Crisis City part she remembers, otherwise that'd make a huge plothole with not knowing Sonic in Rush), and now outright having them as close friends in canon regardless of all that.

Former writer Ken Penders revealed Oct. 30, 2009 on his message board that he considered Rotor to be homosexual, stating “I thought it was fairly obvious Rotor was gay, and begun laying the groundwork for that storyline during the MOBIUS: 25 YEARS LATER segments. I even showed his life partner...

Remember how I said with Sonadow, that it wasn't as if Sega were opposed to homosexual pairings completely? Remember how I mentioned Penders in the Knuxade post? They're interlinked here.

From this, (assuming it's true) it can be gathered that Sega are okay with more out of the way characters having such a relationship, just as long as it isn't 'blatant', so to speak. This is why I don't rule out slash entirely, but I do consider the prominence of the characters involved in the slash. 

Note: Because of Ken's piss poor communication with the rest of the staff, Ian didn't know about this situation until way after he started writing on the comic. He has since stated that Rotor is not gay (probably because he'd alway written Rotor from the perspective of being straight and changing the track wouldn't be worth the trouble), so it's really a moot point for him. But Ian isn't to be blamed for this, Ken only has himself to blame.

Post of Context (1/2)

Before we resume with the shipping schedule, I think it's important that we clear a little something up. It'll pop up in the future. 

This game, do you remember it?

It's Sonic Rivals 2, for the PSP. I've played it myself. In fact, the EUR save on GameFAQs with it completed 150/150 is my save that I paid for a second copy of SRvl2 and borrowed a cousin's PSP for. Did I enjoy it? Would I go to such lengths if I didn't?

That said, I don't think Sega acknowledges it as canon anymore. While this would usually be a very minor thing, it's a huge blockade to an upcoming ship. 

Reasons why are below;

1. The endings are incoherent. Usually when you have all these conflicting storylines, there's also a final story so no matter how messy things get, there's at least a coherent beginning and ending. Sonic Rivals 2 has a possibility, technically, of six different endings, and there's nothing to make sense of them. 

2. Eggman Nega's fate doesn't add up. In Sonic Rivals 2, Eggman Nega is pretty much left for dead in an interdimesional area, crushed under the rubble of his mayhem, with no way to get back (Eggnan himself would struggle, but he's at least got lackeys back home who would try to find him no matter what) . Sonic Team, on the other hand, has brought him back several times to wreak more havoc. 

3. Mario and Sonic London Wii. We'll get to that bridge when we cross it.

Sonic Shipping, Logically Speaking; ShadowXOmega

Characters involved: Shadow the Hedgehog and E-123 "Omega".

Most well known nickname: Shadega. Which sounds like a dance.

Original date of ship: 2006/2008.

Analysis of chemistry (aka why people do/don't ship it): In all honestly, this should be a crack ship. Yes, they get along as friends and comrades. And yes, they are similar in that they're both originally weapons looking to do something else with themselves. And yes, I'm sure there was a handful of shippers following the story in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) because of the whole thing about Omega being turned on Shadow in the future and them being sad (as far as unemotional beings are) about it.

This ship is more a testament to Sonic Chronicles, if anything, showing off that marmite-filled characterisation and dialogue to the Nth degree. In it, Omega is a pretty big bad-ass. He's optional, but it'd be worth your time to pick him up if you like him being robotically snarky or just like BioWare references in general. Shadow...let's say that this is about the only ship where he's 100% bottom. He was obsessed with Omega to a degree that even brotherly characters like Sonic and Tails have never shown. Such is the degree that here, Omega is comparable to Sonic and Shadow is comparable to Amy. Amy freakin' Rose! That's....something.

Detractors of the ship really have nothing to detract on, because I don't think the majority of people who ship it actually ship it. 

Personal Opinion: If this was a serious ship, I would probably dislike it. To me, mutual love between organic creatures and robots/AIs is still a sensitive area due to all the red tape that comes with it. Thus, I don't like any ship in the Sonic series with that sort of dynamic in. No exceptions. 

But it's not supposed to be serious, it's just some ribbing at Chronicles and how daft the characterisation could be at times. With that in mind, it's funny.

Likelihood in the games: None. And I don't think anyone realistically wants it to be. After the next couple, the posts after will be a bit hard to write due to either needing extra context or just being outright controversial, so it's nice to have a bit of fun before dealing with the meaty stuff.
