🌴SON SHINE FUN FIND🌴 Ever Wonder what causes the little beveled holes in shells? Contrary to popular belief, they are not caused by birds. The beveled holes, like the ones on the shells I found today, are caused by the predatory Moon Snail or Sharks Eye. First, the snail uses its accessory boring organ which produces hydrochloric acid, enzymes, and other substances to soften the prey’s shell creating the beveled hole. Once the hole breaks through the shell, the moon snail sticks its proboscis (trunk) inside the clam and using the radula, which has 7 rows of teeth, rasps away the clam’s tissue basically eating it alive.
