“You are no burden, I assure you. No astartes ever is.” Alucard waved the complained off gently. “Just a solidification with a founding chapter via this marriage is enough for me thus far. But please, we both have a lot to learn. I am barely two hundred yet have been given much responsibility. It is my job to learn.”

“...That’s really remarkable,” Maus replied, looking suitably impressed. Perhaps this marriage would work to his own benefit as well as his Chapter’s advantage. If nothing else he found himself somewhat relieved that he wasn’t as young compared to Alucard as he might have been to another Astartes. “I haven’t accomplished as much yet, but I hope to. How did you manage so much so quickly?”

"That’s a nice looking cape. It would look even nicer on the floor at the foot of my bed." (to Alucard from Maus, sonsoftheashes)

Alucard smirked, an awful little retort coming to mind. “Perhaps you should tie me up with it instead?”

“Perhaps,” Maus readily agreed. “Otherwise I’m sure we can find something else to use. I’d hate for your cape to get wrinkled.”

“Bah, it is material that can be replced. Now…would you like to start?”

“You never could,” Maus replied before looking a little sheepish. “Now would be great. Race you to the bedroom?”

“Perhaps if we just…walk? Tease each other a little?” Alucard suggested, half not wanting to make a public show about and half so he could word on being a little more romantic himself. This was all still so new!

“Oh. I see your point,” Maus said, coloring ever so slightly. It was mostly noticeable around his ears. “Let’s walk then,” he said, taking Alucard’s arm in his.

“If you please?” Alucard asked softly, willing to go about the place. It was certainly better than standing awkwardly and trying not to scare poor Maus.

“I’ll show you the training halls first then. They’re my favorite.” The walls of those rooms were covered in depictions of the sea creatures native to Fenris. Maus, being young, had seen hardly any of them, which was probably a mercy. It also likely explained why he enjoyed the carvings more than senior Astartes seemed to.

Alucard’s eyes wondered upong the carvings, taking in details that would have otherwise been hard to in full light. The whole place seemed to be made from stone and wood even though he knew this was barely true. More metal and plastics went into the construction than anything. “As I can see. You must spend a lot of time in there.”

“I have a lot to learn,” Maus said, suppressing a small sigh. He would have liked to be more prepared to meet Alucard. Not just because they were to be married, but because he wasn’t exactly that impressive an ally. Yet.  

Turning to the other Astartes, he smiled but the expression was fairly solemn. “I make an effort not to be a burden, however. I shall be an asset to your chapter, you have my word.”

This month (esp. work-wise) has been very strange and stressful. I will get back to replies hopefully this weekend, but I have less time than I would like. Apologies in advance. I’m hoping it’ll go back to normal in the near future.

Ahriman picked up easily on Maus’ excitement and found that he too was beginning to warm to the subject. “What are the customs of Fenris?” he asked. It was not something he had ever bothered to research before, having never thought he would need it. “Maybe we can put something together from both our homes?” Of course, he was referring to Prospero rather than anywhere else.

Maus colored slightly, looking sheepishly between Ahriman and Darius. “Oh, I... Honestly, I don’t really know a great deal about them... I suppose feasting and drinking are the order of the day. Gifts are exchanged, made from the hands of those who are joining together.”

“I’ll leave you to settle on details,” Darius decided before slipping out of the room. He didn’t want to ruin the moment by lingering too long. If they were getting along, that was perfect.

“My thanks. I suppose having ties to the Inquisition helps greatly.” He invited the other inside where the room was dark save for a few candles here and there. It smells heavily of ironwood and old parchment, mingling with the fresher scent of incense. “Mind not the darkness. My eyes don’t do well with light as you remember.”

Maus followed Alucard into the dimly-lit room, savoring the comforting smell of old books and the heady scent of incense. He looked to his companion and smiled. “I don’t mind, truly.”
