Brief, sleepy, late night realization I had:

So, real quick? Ignoring the fact that Nimona’s a PG movie so that’s why there’s little to no depictions of actual violence (like Ballister’s arm chopping is brutal but it’s toned down quite a bit.)

Nims at the beginning/middle of the movie is so openly violent. Her drawings where she’s happily murdering guards, her excitement over Bal possibly having a murder wall + disappointment that he didn’t kill the queen, the fact that she pulls out a knife and seems so gleeful at the idea of killing, when she pulls out the fire escape axe threatening to cut off more limbs, “let’s go ki- get him!~ Let’s go get him.”

For starters not only does this kinda imply that she maybe has killed/maimed people in the past and will gladly do it again. But, more importantly, it contrasts the fact that, once she teams up with Ballister, she doesn’t actually kill people. She roughs them up or knocks them out. But she only ever “kills” the Director.

Which kinda made me realize: She was likely purposefully toning herself down once she saw that Ballister wasn’t a killer and wouldn’t approve. Because she was legit that lonely and this was her only chance at finding a friend, even if he didn’t completely match her energy.
