How fragile we are, between the few good moments.

odds.
It tooka lot out of Sejin to drop the whole act, but continuing to throw backhandedremarks proved to be leading nowhere. No matter how hard he would’ve tried, continuing attacks were pointless, the reasoning behind them making no real sense to begin with.
Sure, the two families had fortunes to their names, but it wasn’t as if they were actually competition for one another. The two’s personal successes had no bearing on each other, aside from bragging rights for their parents. Did Sejin truly care about how Taehoon chose to live life? Not quite. If it had nothing to do with him, why care? Seeing the other at a loss didn’t bring any form of satisfaction, but a rather gut-wrenching feeling.
The words spoken resonated clearly in his mind, confirming his suspicions of there being some form of parallel in their stories and beliefs. Insecurity and feelings of worthlessness consistently plagued his mind when it came to how his parents viewed him. It was as if no amount of awards or honorable mentions could satiate their desire to have the perfect son. It was a never-ending battle with not a person but an entirely unrealistic concept, in his opinion at least.
“Living to please someone who’s never going to be satisfied is an utter waste, Taehoon. So is living out the plans that were set before you can even make conscious decisions for yourself— I knew there was no way that I could’ve ever found the same happiness in Seoul, and that’s why I ran away and started here as ‘Sejin’. I did blow a good amount of the money I took with me so living isn’t exactly a breeze— But my new life is something I don’t plan on letting go of.”
His gaze fell upon the other man, and also laughed as a result. Being unable to fight the contagiousness as it had to have been the first time he ever encountered such a sight.
Taking a deep breath to gather himself again, Sejin watched as the other appeared to start on his way out, heart catching in his throat at the mention of his parents. Though the company was still running strong-as-ever, lingering feelings of guilt still crossed his mind every once in a while. He knew deep inside that they did care and love him, but the amount pressure they put on was too much. Hearing the small update proved to be overwhelming, leaving the man with his mouth agape as he tried to gather his thoughts.
“I doubt they’ll never take me back, Taehoon—“
Perhaps the other isn’t living in luxury, but happiness and wealth have never been on the same scale, and Taehoon should’ve known that earlier. Though truth is he has long given up attempting to please his father, since it seems his efforts will never be quite enough for the elder to be proud of him or show any signs of it. He’s been fairly satisfied with this relatively carefree lifestyle thus far, but is he really or is he just getting by? On second thoughts maybe not as much as he had liked to think so, until now. Maybe he just needs a reason and a goal to fight for, and it seems the other has already found his.
“An utter waste indeed. It makes you wonder who have you been trying for all this while, for yourself or them.”
He has revealed that piece of information in hopes that they might serve as a reassurance of sorts, except the tone of the other doesn’t quite suggest any trace of having been assured. “They will,” There’s a slight pause as he glances over at the other, and for a brief moment it’s as though he sees himself in Sejin; that uncertainty when it comes to the topic of parents, that tad bit of hurt and most importantly, that faint thread of hope they’ve been clutching onto, hoping that maybe there is room for improvements and maybe the family could be whole again. But Taehoon knows that is very unlikely for him, and he hopes it’ll be a different ending for the other. “...eventually”
There’s a slight pause after, his gaze still on the other before he continues. “You’ve found a reason for happiness and a goal in life. Keep it.”

[ txt: hoon ] ↪ i thought we’ve established that we’re not talking about them? ↪ urgh just let yourself in, the door’s unlocked anyway
[` leaving his phone aside after checking the messages, he pulls up in front of a familiar gate - the address unintentionally memorized from the trips made throughout the renovation process. grabbing his phone and slipping it into his pocket, he steps out of the car, box of pizza wedged in his hands and makes his way in through the gate; god forbid he has not even delivered himself any pizza like that. a light push of the door and it opens, he invites himself in after toeing his shoes off, closing the door behind him, glancing around the interior briefly ] impressive, you’ve got enough set up considering you had only one afternoon.
“I am a dirty guilty selfish person and this brings comfort.”

[ ` he smiled and shook the man’s hand ] she’s all yours, now. [ ` the other had complete glee struck in every which way possible. it was a difficult cleanup, but he took the project seriously. the whole garage worked on the ‘67 camaro for about three weeks now, it was in three pieces when they first got the junk and now it was a complete masterpiece. it took four days straight of painting, the classic look — a shimmering opal body with two red stripes lining it’s body line, what a beautiful car. he turned around after watching the owner and his beauty drive away, he was now left with waiting for the owner of his last project for the week: the 1970 Dodge Charger. ]
[ ` he was quite sure hoon said he’d be coming over today, so he figured he’d polish it up one last time before showing off the new color and the inverted interior. he only began to polish the hood when he heard a knock at his door. he turned and looked at the other’s reaction, giving him an immediate reaction of pride and conquer — as well as a cheeky smile. ] i was ‘alf-tempted to buy this one from you, you’re a lucky man.
[` honestly taehoon is a lot of things but he isn’t a cars person; not that he doesn’t give a damn about the cars he owns - he just doesn’t know much about them, or the minute differences between different brands, especially not vintage ones and that is where jeremiah comes in. it’s a peculiar acquaintance...friendship that they have; there’s something about jeremiah that grounds him yet at the same time retaining enough of a comfort level between them for taehoon to feel at ease with the younger; perhaps it’s the passion and dedication that jeremiah holds for his job and for this hobby he indulges in that have taehoon feeling an odd sense of affiliation with a trace of admiration, albeit an unspoken one; probably something to make up for what is lacking in himself ]
[` and today he’s here for the car that he has dropped off a while back. he laughs in response to the cheeky smile, gaze settling on the almost finished project, and even he has to admit that this has got to be magic at work ] y’know, you recommended this to me, i owe that luck to a man with great taste. [` breaks into a grin, stepping over to get a closer look at the vehicle ] how’s it going? give me the non-terminology version.
bar talks :
( ; finishes cleaning the counter as his shift had just started, knowing he would be there till late that night—no matter if it was pretty empty and his other co-worker seemed to handle all of them pretty well ) – ( ; organizes the empty and clean glasses on their right place, then moving to have the drink bottles in an easier place to get to prepare the mixes ) – ( ; leans his back on the shelf carefully, not to let anything fall, and crosses his arms on his chest, just watching as the people who were already there when he arrived left ) – ( ; as new customers arrives, he goes on taking their orders and does it pretty quickly—he still could remember how much he failed on doing all that when he first arrived at the bar ) – ( ; as he finishes to give the orders to some of the guys that were there, oliver notices a guy on one of the corners of the counter ) – ( ; goes towards the male, giving out a grin as approached him ) Hello… May I take your order, sir? ( ; he says, always too respectful towards anyone that came inside there )
[` the joy of weekday nights; the inexplicable bliss that stems from the peace and quiet he gets from sitting in an almost empty bar on a weekday night. no crowds, no loud chitter-chattering, no unnecessary conversations. he enjoys socialization as much as the amount of value it adds and benefits it could potentially bring as well as the kind of interests it might pique, otherwise he abstains from it. so here he is, settling in front of the counter, enjoying the fact that there are barely a few other individuals around including the staff and bartenders, and alone time is always good news. ponders briefly when someone approaches him for an order, giving a quiet hum ] Anything goes, hit me with your best shot.

“You have nights reserved for drinks? Sounds about right for a man with packed schedules,” he grinned, reaching forth to take the glass with a nodded thanks. His tone was more playful then it was meant as a jab, and he took a long sip before he continued, savoring the sweetness of the wine as the dark liquid swirled and glided down his throat. Fragrant with a velvety finish - as expected of Taehoon’s tastes.
If there’s one thing he particularly liked drinking with the younger, it was the fact that he’ll always bring out the best booze on the table.
“Had a last minute call-in about a cat being stuck in the tree,” Steven laughed, his low, husky voice dulling in his chest, “which ended up in a long rant on how police department should do something about it when we’re getting money from taxpayers. Interesting how that word seemed to give any citizen every right to get a little crazy.” The male tugged on his jacket, the glass settled back onto the table as he found himself a comfortable spot. “Still, it was the most eventful thing in the day. I presume work must be dull for you to have escape the crutches of the walls to this place.” Steven’s eyes glazed over their glasses, “how many had you had before I arrived?”
“Mhm you know me, present me with wine of topnotch quality and out goes work through the window” his gaze goes over across the table from him, watching briefly while the other takes a long sip from the glass; seemingly pleased with Taehoon’s choice as expected. One of the perks of their bond is their shared taste in wine and alcohol. He grins then, fingers curled into a loose fist in front of his mouth, amusement donning his expression.
“Cat stuck in a tree, thought that old-school scenario only happens in children’s storybooks” he muses with a low hum, reaching forth with his other hand for the glass of wine. “It’s their shield to fend off everything and to back up anything. Seems pretty effective too seeing as you were sent off to help a cat off a tree because of said taxpayer” the grin remains when he lifts the glass and tilts it for a sip, lips rolled inward briefly and savoringly. “Dull is an understatement, but I’ve gone through that enough to survive till now. I’ve had enough, but not enough to get drunk before you do” There’s a hint of (friendly) challenge in his words, and he downs the last of wine in his glass, leaning forward to get another fill from the bottle, before gesturing the bottle towards the other.
drunken mess: part ii
{` despite all the reckless action, the girl still has a slight trace of conscious, though it was overwhelmed by the nauseating feeling of constantly wanting to get rid of the rumbling of warm alcohol inside her body that seemed to be tickling every single nerve of hers.} — {` she feels herself being dragged away, and through her squinted eyes she pictures someone— though not completely clear of who that is, she decided to stay still as he asked her to, probably due to the familiar scent of cologne that rings a bell to her room mate.} roger that— {` she salutes to the other, though in a completely drunk and slouching manner, sliding down against the wall she allows herself to rest on the floor, using her hands as pillows she as peacefully closes her eyes.] — {` hums to that lullaby that was buried deep inside of memories as a wave of heat hits her, the girl with cheeks that are now in a light shade of red pays an attempt of unbuttoning her shirt, though only the first few buttons that she wont regret doing so.} hey— you! are you back yet or what…… {` she shouted towards the direction where she pictured the person who helped her walks towards, with no concern upon the issue that it was already passed midnight} — {` fights for keeping her eyes opened yet only blurry images could be received.}
Jesus christ you’re not the only one on this cruise [` he returns with a warm towel after ridding himself of the dirty laundry, only to be greeted by the sight of the girl slumped on the floor and the top few buttons seem to be undone, and he’s pretty sure that’s something that has just happened ]
[` presses the warm towel against her flushed cheeks before wrapping an arm around her waist, attempting to help her up and off the ground; in spite of the feelings of hostility that he holds towards the agreement they are set up in and the girl as an association of the deal, he can’t possibly bring himself to leave her on the ground, drunk and possibly going to throw up anytime again ]
