“i have nothing interesting to share.”
it’s a simple deflection, one he knows the other won’t be satisfied with, but jisung enjoyed keeping things to himself. there wasn’t much to share about his life currently, unless dabin wanted him to ramble on about how boring things were and how lonely he was, but he was sure they had no interest in his day to day life. no, instead they must be asking about more beneficial knowledge, such as the way he reboots or how he ticked (how easy it’d be to kill him and erase his memories for good, he never wanted them to know how fragile he truly was). it only made sense they’d want to know now that jisung held onto the same information about the other, but he clung tight to the knowledge nonetheless.
he didn’t want to lose all his memories, not again.
the feeling of fingers around his throat burns hotly at the back of his mind. he blinks and it’s gone, replaced with dabin, the only being he could really consider a friend in the strange city. he wondered if they felt the same, but he’d always been overly sentimental, attaching titles and emotions to things that didn’t require them. his model wasn’t supposed to feel emotion, yet he’d been programmed with them nonetheless, he always wondered if it was a simple factory flaw or a purposeful mistake to lead his curiosity into new directions. his model was built to learn, after all, so what was the difference between learning about the world and devastating loss? quite a big one, he had come to learn, but his patchy memories didn’t allow him to understand why eh felt so desolate in the first place. on one hand, he never wanted to piece them together, didn’t want to know what he’d lost, but on the other he was dying to know who or what had been so important to him in the first place. here, all he had was his studies, then he’d had someone, something, but he couldn’t remember what. all he knew was, it was gone.
his pale blue eyes flicker away from dabin’s face, off in the distance, not really looking at anything in particular, but he can never bring himself to meet their eyes when he’s not being truthful. there’s plenty he can tell them about his past, what he remembers of it, such as the purpose of his model, but he frets they’ll turn their back on him if they discover anything more about him. he didn’t know their purpose either, but he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t curious. still, to keep up the facade of friendships and not just two androids tied together by the cruel fate of not being human enough, he didn’t ask.
knowing dabin won’t be happy with his answer, his eyes settle onto their face again, his lips curling into a slight smile. “i love baths. i know, i know, they’re totally unnecessary, but they just feel good, y’know?” while it wasn’t what they were asking, he had still supplied her with an answer, thus satisfying the need for a response. he could weasel his way out of the question for now, but one day they’d figure out the truth. still, a small part of him didn’t want to be rebooted if he were to fall. he couldn’t wrap his head around his own line of thoughts when it ventured into that territory as he held a burning desire to know all there was about the world, yet a small voice in the back of his head always told him to give up, there was no point to any of it at all.
why? why?
“so,” he starts again, jutting his thumb back over his shoulder in the direction of the door. “you want to come on a walk with me? i haven’t been out to the park in a while and i think the sun would feel nice, being cooped up all day gets a little boring.” distract them, don’t let them ask any more questions. plus, he really did want to get out of his apartment.
