High up in the Himalayas we visited this massive Buddha statue looking out over the valley. Next to the statue sits a tiny temple which many visitors overlook where you can witness groundwater burning with a Buddhist nun chanting atmospheric prayers. ā š» Besides being a Buddhist holy site, Muktinath is also a very important Hindu pilgrimage site. Having spent much time in many Buddhist countries in the past and a fair bit of time in India, I'd always considered these two quite distinctive religions, although one did grow out of the other. But in Nepal these two religions blend in a very unique way. š» It was interesting to hear one of our hosts in Kathmandu say that he was "both a Hindu and a Buddhist, the two being almost the same anyway". And I guess for people living here, the distinction between the two is not so clear with Buddha being revered in Hindu temples along with the other deities and protector deities of Hindu origin showing up in Buddhist temples. All is one. āļø Anyway, this spot was as high as we got in Mustang. All downhill from here. . . . š· & āš» @jerometheworld #soulfulnepal https://www.instagram.com/p/B4fXWDxgjJm/?igshid=1q8lx20x3lm4q
