I think the show has a plot beyond āthey are monsters so they suckā because it clearly wants us to take their emotions seriously? I refuted this exact point in my og tags but i would love to elaborate:D
I care about the narrative being compelling and making points that make sense. Armand (show version) is one of my favorites because of the terrible things he does, and I get frustrated when people make him seem more sympathetic when he is. I was excited for TVL because I thought they would actually resolve all the themes surrounding Lestat, because the show framed them as significant. He is explicitly written as abusive in S1, and now that narrative has gone nowhere. Super unsatisfying lol.
If the show was about all vampires being monsters and shitty I think there would be narrative focus on how tjey are ontologically evil or smth. Imo The show is about the vampire interacting with each other, themselves, and the world around them over time . Character arcs idk.
My main complaint is that its super disheartening when people in fandom conflate canonical discussion of racism and dv with āmarvel movie media literacyā? Why is it boring? S1 jim crow New orleans is portrayed so well. The show plucks Louis out of history and turns him into a vampire, but people act like its cringy to talk about how that era affects him, as though they are too smart to find it interesting. Why is it ridiculous for a vampire show to want to explore these things? This show isnāt half as cynical/detached as the viewers treat it to be. If I truly am just a lowly marvel movie fan I would genuinely appreciate an explanation on these topics because Iāve never seen anyone who touts the moral grayness argument display depth of understanding.
