my outlook on the world was changed permanently by the discovery that the raptors in Jurassic Park were played by actors in raptor suits
you guys i’m so fucking scared
the pandemic is absolutely thriving in south asia. i’m not kidding. you might think the US is bad, but the situation in countries like india (which literally surpassed the US for the world’d highest single-day increase in cases) and nepal (which has seen a huge spike in cases recently) is genuinely reached horrible new highs. i have most of my extended family living in nepal, and they can’t go to the hospital for non-covid related issues. there’s barely any social distancing, around 250,000 people are homeless and have no access to proper sanitary resources, and everyone is terrified due to multiple conspiracies about the disease that are spreading like wildfire. the government is incompetent and has barely done anything to help people, and desperation is spreading. india is a bigger country with more resources, and is also suffering, but people in nepal, particularly the ones who live in slums or villages, are prime targets for the virus and will receive absolutely nothing from the government. if you are able, please donate to this fund to support children, particularly orphans, who have been left vulnerable by the effects of the pandemic in nepal. they need your help.
Here is a list of more fundraisers supporting India’s most vulnerable during the pandemic
(I am currently looking for fundraisers in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and other places in South Asia and will update when I find them)

When I was a kid I had a reputation for faking sick because nothing much seemed to be wrong with me. Years later I found out my symptoms were psychosomatic due to the constant stress of untreated mental health issues. I spent 20 years in chronic pain because the adults around me just saw a child who didn't want to be in class
Listen to your goddamn kids.
...i just lost a lot of leftover guilt from missing so many days in elementary school.
Children SHOULD miss school when they are feeling unwell, physical or mentally. And every child is going to get sick sometimes. That is normal. It’s a bad sign if a child never misses a day of school--that is often a sign of neglect or abuse. Children are children, they do not have the same stamina, authority, or the same communication skills to articulate their needs that adults have.
Normalize giving kids days off for their mental health.
Every month my mom allotted me and my brother one mental health day. If we aren't feeling well emotionally or physically we can say we're cashing in our day and roll back into bed no questions asked about school. School is no longer on the table its, "are you okay", " whats going on", "would you like space from me right now" "is something going on I should know about", etc. I'm so glad she did that for me and him, especiallu with us both having mental health issues as kids.
THIS. THIS IS SUCH GOOD PARENTING.
My sister spent years complaining of pain in her hip and leg. More than one doctor told her flat out - in front of our mother - that she was just faking it to get out of school. Luckily, our mother believed her, and kept trying to help.
She had a pinched sciatic nerve. The pain was real and excruciating, and will be an issue all her life, though physiotherapy and pain-killers help. But she suffered untreated for years because doctors do not listen to teenage girls.
today i learned of the Pyralid moth genus Pachypodistes and it healed me of 100 hit points

The transition from a young plantling to a full fledged, grown up mother plant is a fascinating (but at times awkward) journey.
Shown here is a Dandelion, Strawberry and Helleborus flower - from newly sprouted bud to mature blossom!

for people who can’t watch the video: THE AMYGDALA CHANGES TRADITIONALLY FOUND IN MOTHERS SHOW UP IN ALL PRIMARY CAREGIVERS REGARDLESS OF SEX
Changes in this part of the brain were previously used to previously used to argue that women are the ideal primary caretakers of children in all cases. And apparently, it’s false. The reason they found these changes in women was that women were already the primary caretaker in almost all cases, not because there’s something inherent to women that makes them better parents.
this is big news for SAHF and single dads!
it’s also another example as to why same-gender couples and trans parents are capable of fully loving and caring for children, even though they are frequently barred from doing so under government and private guidelines in many places.
