Eva: well I tell my uncle almost everything- after all I was 7 when I got The Curse so obviously he had to know what it was.. I’ve told Quill bits and pieces too.

Quill: Duke knows, he’s been blackmailing me with my unknown past for years! Cash might know too, but if he did, wouldn’t he tell me?

Cash: Duke knows everything. It’s even worse since he’s my dad.

Nickolas: I wish everyone knew. Probably for the best though that I keep a low profile. Archie knows, but I’m not sure Lynn does.

Lynn: Ha! No one knows my secret. Except Avalon and Archie and I think- did I ever tell Eva? I should probably tell her but she definitely won’t take it well.

Archie: It feels like I know everything sometimes. As for my own secret, it’s not that much of a secret considering how I look, but I think Lynn has forgotten it somehow.. @sonic-au-collision-zone

Secrets in question under the cut - MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. Also a trigger warning for manipulation and physical abuse.

Eva: When I was 7 I very nearly lost my life in an accident involving a spider mech and none other than sonic. When I woke up, I saw a shadowy figure’s webbed tentacles, if that was ever a thing. I may have been hallucinating. Afterwards, I found I could replicate other mobian’s energy-based powers to a degree, and it turned out my DAD of all people could do it too.

Duke: (Quill) that little rat has been nothing if not useful to me, a shame he lost his memory but having a well-trained thief with speed comparable to his heroic brother was an asset I could not squander.

Cash: a.. few years ago. My best friend in the 40 thieves academy ran away. Rouge was always charismatic and could easily make new friends, but all of her friends only had interest in me because I was front page of all their favourite heart-throb magazines. My parents divorced not long after and I was pulled from the academy entirely. I.. wanted something, anything, and I know that Da- Duke didn’t want me to bother him, so.. I asked him for a pet cat. Just a little critter, something to care for, something quiet and clean and- I caught him at a bad time, I guess. I saw the bottles on the floor and soon after that I only saw half of them. The public thinks my eye is just a cute gimmick part of my character, and that’s what I say in media, “oh, I can’t take it off, I don’t wanna ruin the mystery” and such. It became a bit of a meme what with the rise of popular anime showing superpowers through one cursed eye, heh- it’s actually kind of funny in hindsight.

Nickolas: I didn’t kill the king. He died to the wreckage in the G.U.N. raid on Mobotropolis Castle. It shouldn’t have been covered up. But I was already a traitor by the time I was well enough to speak up. I was gifted The Curse by Archie, though I don’t understand the logistics of all. He also claims the ability to copy other abilities isn’t tied to his powers, which is odd. Nonetheless, I’ve gotten a second life. I’ll.. make it up to my so-my daughter, eventually. ..She’s happier with her uncle anyway, and I… wasn’t ready to raise a kid. Of course I got stuck with Lynn, of all people but they’re old enough to figure things out themselves.

Lynn: I don’t know how Archie knew. He said he’d been looking for me for a very long time, that he knew me before.. all of this. I know Ava wiped some of my memories, I remember asking her to. I know the backstory I have in my head is fake, that Archie and I aren’t even from this world in the first place; but even so. This place has a heck of a lot more adventure than the real world, so who cares? I got bored of playing the main character a while back, so it’s fun watching all of it fold out in front of me now, but that’s also all the more reason I really have to tell Eva. Though she may find out herself at this rate.

Archie: I don’t need to tell you what you already know. …the cape isn’t my biggest secret. It’s not actually my tentacles, either. It’s my “father’s” last gift to me, albeit unintentionally. It’s entirely dependent on my life force, not unlike a parasite, and it’s clearly an infant considering its antics. I’ve been referring to it as Black Seed, considering what it was when I found it. It’s been surprisingly helpful on occasion what with my unfortunately lacking height, but it’s only really useful for grabbing things, it doesn’t have a proper hand to use any object it picks up.

If we’re talking strictly in the comic, this is one of my favourites to the point where the first panel with Lynn is my profile picture in a lot of places he just looks so ticked off I love it

This one is later, more of an OotA artwork than a ChaoticAU artwork, but they’re in the same universe so it doesn’t matter. I drew this for another art event actually and I feel like it sums up Lynn’s antics so hecking well. @sonic-au-collision-zone Another comic page I’m proud of but it’s going under the cut since it’s from the unreleased issue 6:

Sonia: I would save my family, after all that is my biggest wish! I would imagine it’s everyone’s wish as well!

Eva: Uncle Ivo and Cash can take care of themselves, Quill can’t but Cash is always there when I’m not! Only problem is the other consequences of getting said wish, I don’t think Uncle Ivo would be very happy…

Quill: My wishes don’t matter, my friends are all I have. And I’ve already lost too much.

Cash: My family sucks man. If I could toss them all off a cliff and start a band I’d do it in a heartbeat. Don’t tell my father that I said that.

Lynn: Been there done that. Just get new friends and family no big deal.

Archie: My only wish get my family back. And for Lynn to stop running off like a moron.

Considering the entire main cast is pretty much comprised of villains playing good there isn’t really a lot of people who would do such a thing or get hit by any said chair. Although. Lynn Turner would definitely hit someone (anyone) with a folding chair. Lynn is also the most likely person to get hit themselves.

A message notification flickers on screen. Clicking it reveals a camera feed from a tablet, showing a vaguely familiar pink hedgehog sitting on a couch next to a more unfamiliar black hedgehog, the two of them flanked on either side by a green tenrec with an outrageous ponytail and a short blue fennec fox with long, drooping ears.

“Hi there! You may or may not recognize me from your own world, but my name is Amy Rose. This dark, brooding hedgehog next to me is Shadow—”

The black-furred hedgehog flicks a hand in greeting.

“—And these two to our left and right here are Surge and Kitsunami—”

“Sup.”

“…”

“—And we just wanted to congratulate you on winning the first round of the Sonic AU Collision! It was pretty surprising just how close the vote was, but I’m so excited to see just how far you get in the competition!”

“A competition we didn’t even need to do anything for. I mean come on! Where’s the events? I want the chance to show off and prove I’m better than everyone else!”

“Not every competition is going to be like an extreme gear race, Surge. Sometimes it’s a popularity contest.”

“If that’s the case then we should have had this in the bag, not gone out in the first round!”

“There’s no need to be rude about it. Besides, they won fair and square. As I always say, we should be as graceful in defeat as we are in victory.”

“Since when did you ever say that?”

“I have to concur. I don’t recall you ever saying such a thing before.”

“Or her living up to those words.”

“Wh-what you’re talking about? I am plenty graceful in defeat!”

“You remember board game night at the Restoration? You chased Tangle almost halfway across Emeraldville after she beat you in that card game.”

“Well—I—uh— A-anyways, congrats again on winning round one! We’ll be rooting for you to win!”

“Heh, well it’s not every day I get a direct message from another Zone! It’s a pleasure to meet all of you, although I’d recognise shadow even if the video had terrible quality! Seems to be coming through quite well though. You’ll have to tell me who built the tech you used to achieve that! I’m Lynn, the Fourth Zone Traveller! You wouldn’t know me from anywhere, but I’ve definitely been everywhere!”

“You’re not the only person in the room you know! This competition has been really fun! We’re seeing so many people’s adventures! I’m Dr. Evangeline “Eggette” Robotnik! Though we’re typically on complete opposite sides considering my uncle’s various.. ventures. It was still fun and it’s awesome to meet you all!”

“You get mad at me for taking the spotlight and then you throw in your full government name like it’s no big deal!” (Lynn snickers.) Nonetheless, this was incredibly fun and I’ll definitely be around! It was a close match, and if you prize your story as much as I do mine, then I’m sure it’ll be quite the story to catch up on!”

“You always say things like that- what do you even mean story?”

“I broke the fourth wall there a bit, don’t worry about it.”

“You do that a lot, I’m starting to think maybe there really is a fourth wall.”

ChaoticAU has been a wild ride for the past 8 years! It was originally conceived as just me running around in the sonic universe, thinking about what would happen, but as I realised I wanted a real story, I dove into every scrap of sonic lore I could feasibly read about on the wiki (which lead to several months of scrolling, searching and clicking link after link to learn more about every facet of lore) I’d say this probably took place between 2018-2020.

Soon after I rewrote the story, originally dubbed Chaotic Neutral due to the story coming from the Eggman empire’s view after I learned about the fanmade character Eggette and realised she’d be perfect for the story I wanted to tell. I came across a lot of questions I wanted answered at this point.

What is daily life in the Empire like?

Where are all the people living in the empire? Surely it can’t just have a population of one?

Where are all the would-be half-humans half-mobians?

I could have taken this from the perspective of Eggman, but he always seemed a little larger than life, more interested in the actual conquest rather than the logistics- hence why I introduced his niece, now named Evangeline, a half-human half-cat to explore those fine details.

At the time, my favourite sonic characters were Shadow (unsurprisingly), Eclipse from Sonic Universe (also not surprising) and Manic from Sonic Underground- Manic seemed to have spent far more time in the empire than his other two siblings, so after a few changes to his story, he entered Chaotic Neutral as Quill the Hedgehog, the secondary main character.

This left one more slot open that I was hoping to fill with Eclipse, but after creating Cash the Bat, Rouge’s brother in the AU, it turned out that both of my beta readers liked Cash FAR MORE, so my throw-away minor villain became the tertiary main character with a very interesting dynamic with both Quill and Eva as well as an interesting side plot I was excited to explore.

To round the story off, I added Lynn Turner, an Easter egg character referencing my early days when I was just going on adventures in my head in the sonic world. They’d turn up in the background once per issue and it would be implied that they wrote the actual comics! ;-;

anyway Lynn is now also a significant character but hey it’s fine

after ChaoticAU was officially released, I found my ideas were coming to me faster than I could write them down, resulting in 5 issues of posted comics and 8 years of unwritten lore.

due to that disconnect, ChaoticAU has only been through 1.25/12 of the story arcs! Nonetheless, that much lore means I have far more time to critique and prepare for new issues and overall the story means a lot to me. Rain or shine, I’m excited to see where this AU takes me! @sonic-au-collision-zone

Evangeline: Well of course I’m a good person! But I’m also evil!! òwó! my favourite color’s blue!

Quill: W-well I’d hope so! Although.. no I’m sure I’m at least a decent person, right? I like brown, I think- or maybe, maybe red? A reddish brown I’d think.

Cash: Hahaha! Definitely not! You think I could do half the cool things I do with a conscience? Apparently yes! My favourite color’s red, obviously- gotta stick to the family color scheme after all!

Lynn: Whoo boy that’s a loaded question. Well if we’re talking about here, then sure I’m as innocent as a daisy! “What do you mean here?” Obviously here, where else would I ever be, come on! What, do you think I can teleport across dimensions or something? That’d be ridiculous! I’m only human! …My favourite color’s actually forest green, but I’m partial to indigo or purple too, so I end up wearing a lot of it.

Sonia: I’m definitely a good person, I mean- I’m doing all of this for my family! Although they’re not my real family, they’re my foster family, but they need the help- I mean, they’re trying so hard, surely I can make it a just little easier on them. I really like pink. I know it’s a stereotype, what with me being the “girly” one, but it’s just so cheerful!

Chaotic AU was originally posted in 2020 as an overarching AU to streamline the Sonic The Hedgehog lore. The story itself follows Evangeline

Bottom Right: This one was really fun to design! She’s a Jaguar designed for/with .itztli and strongly based off of the Mixtec culture they’ve told me about in detail! It was an insanely interesting character to design, as I don’t have much experience or knowledge of the people, hence why most of the design choices were chosen directly by .itztli, she’s the first other half-human half-mobian I’ve drawn other than Evangeline, which is very exciting!
