Elegy for the Unicorn
rocky's crew dying from radiation exposure, something humans go to great lengths to prevent and are very scared of and ryland's crew dying in their "sleep" with nobody watching, something eridians go to great lengths to prevent and are very scared of. cool book that is easy to read through your tears.
made a little comic while i was drawing
I both like the idea of Grace being able to wheel around with Simon on his lap so he can take him places while they talk, and also the idea that Simon can kinda hold him hostage (playfully) by sitting on the wheelchair and making it too difficult to move them both :)
Also, Grace probably needs a sleep mask bc of glowy Simon, but he doesn't say anything bc now he can stay up and read

[video: gianni matragrano, cosplaying as columbo, walks up to a kitchen counter and says: “hi there. uh,” (loud fumbling for his wallet, opening it to show an id) “lieutenant columbo, LAPD, homicide department.”
he puts his wallet back. someone uses twitch points to overlay someone throwing a pipebomb onto the screen. gianni says, trying to contain a laugh, “pipebomb.” the pipebomb explodes. cheering erupts. end alt text.]
Paradox (1/18)
So... I try to make my own Bloody Mary AU.. hehehe this is going to be a long one so bear with me🥹🙏
I'm not super smart, so don't expect something scientifically accurate.. And I know from the very start that I'll be too lazy to actually color it, so I decided to make it in sketchy greyscale... It's also not a very traditional comic style with strict paneling so.. I'm really just winging it and hope for the best 🤣
Nolan and his cast talking shit about how "Homer didn't care about women" only to Have: Helen mutilated by Menelaus, no Ino, Arete, and Nausicaa, hardly any scenes for Athena + complete butchery of her character, and Penelope's bed test being cut. Wow.
rewatching iron lung on the plane (because what else am I meant to do with my time) and HOLY SHIT, how have I not seen anyone mention this shot ????
that is genuinely 100% elli in the background of the shot where Simon finds the pendant. I'm actually geeking out. An official fifth photo of my biological daughter elli (counting the sequential shots as single sets).
Also kind of confused because I do NOT remember seeing this photo on Molly Brown's website (where 'all' of the camera photos are). Maybe I'm just tripping out but again I'm on the plane so will double check when I get off ASAP.
UPDATE: officially not on the list of all camera shots. I'm kind of sad because that means we don't have a full record of all photos, but it also makes me so excited about what else we haven't noticed!
bloody mary dumpppp
the vivisection jokes have to get old at some point right
^ soft launching my narcoleptic grace hc
ok here go yall juice
me: so you see there was no other choice she could have made. im sure even you understand that, despite how it hurt you. it was one life against the rest of the world, and i know it’s unforgivable, but to say that her decisions came from anywhere other than a place of deep, aching love for humanity is a complete misreading of her character.
ryland grace, still trapped in my pocket dimension: so the flag is a sunset?
me: yes, yes. anyway. what they just don’t understand is that stratt loved the world enough to hurt it. and it killed her, truly. but she hurt it in order to save it. a callous, cold person could never have done what she did.
ryland grace: and i can just say no to sex and romance now, and it’s okay?
today I learned that in 2008, the city council of florence overturned dante’s sentence of execution if he returned from exile. yes, dante’s inferno dante, who died in 1321.
but the funniest part of this is not that they were debating the exile of a man who has been dead for over 500 years.
the funniest part is that the vote was 19-5. five people voted to uphold dante’s exile.
The objectively funniest part of this is actually that the city that holds his remains, Ravenna, refused to give his remains back. This was a ploy from florence to have his remains moved back for the tourist money and its been ongoing for a long time. Florence had a fake tomb built in the city to trick people into visiting, and have tried to force the return of the remains.
His actual caretakers have been very steadfast in keeping them hidden, moved, or generally out of reach to respect his choice in life to never, ever, ever return to florence, even when he was first offered the chance to return. This is at this point an almost millenium long feud that florence is really, really mad about losing
so basically the five people who wanted to uphold his exile were in the right
You're completely skipping over how funny this actually was. So Florence was actually using Catholic law to try and get Dante back, cause technically you're supposed to be buried at the church you were baptised in. So when a Medici, the ruling family of Florence, became pope Leo X he ordered Dante's bones to be returned. He slso ordered Michelangelo to build a mausoleum.
Anyway Ravenna couldn't refuse the pope and handed Dante's casket over to Florence. Another part of Catholic law is that opening someone's casket is desecration and a one way ticket straight to hell. So Florence was skeptical that Ravenna send them Dante and decided to do the unthinkable and opened his casket. It was empty, but Florence couldn't say so because if they called out Ravenna they'd have to admit to desecrating the corpse of their so called beloved poet. So they just pretended it didn't happen till Dante's bones were found behind a wall a couple hundred years later and again interned in a crypt in Ravenna.
Also a friend of Dante had his original grave in Ravenna inscribed with the text:
parvi Florentia mater amoris
Translation:
Florence, mother of little love
