My favorite category of government program to run across is "program you've never heard of doing extremely important work to solve a major problem which you have also never heard of." On that note, the US drops millions of pounds of sterile bugs over Panama each week in order to prevent a parasite infestation from moving into North America. Everyone say thank you to the Panama-United States Commission for the Eradication and Prevention of the Cattle Borer Worm (COPEG)
This program had its funding cut during the DOGE cuts last year and now the parasitic worm they were trying to slow the spread of has officially arrived in the United States.

This is the first time in my life when it's actually fair to criticize the President for gas prices. I've spent so many years explaining to people that Presidents have pretty limited influence over the price of oil and that they do not have a magical lower-gas-prices button on their desk, I almost forgot that the President does actually have a raise-gas-prices button on their desk called "start a war with Iran for no reason"
I understand you don’t like Israel, but in your glee to note how disliked it is, I wonder if you ask how unsafe your American Jewish friends are feeling. Particularly those whose families couldn’t easily escape the Middle East, Soviet Union, or elsewhere in Europe, and had nowhere else to go. Those who lived through Soviet and Arab antisemitism and lost it all, barely escaping with their lives. Those friends who have seen Jewish people around the world attacked in the past year under the guise of disliking Israel (DC Jewish museum, Bondi, Colorado Molotov cocktails, Gov Shapiro). As Dara Horn says, people love dead Jews. And no, minorities are not responsible for causing their own hatred—and a foreign government’s actions are certainly not justification for attacking American or Australian Jewish people. But my guess is that you don’t have many Jewish friends. And they certainly wouldn’t be honest with you anyway. — a former longtime follower.
I think that the Israeli government is the world's foremost promoter of antisemitism. By openly committing acts of brutal violence and then claiming that these actions were taken on behalf of all Jewish people, it is attempting to shift the blame for its actions onto your shoulders. Allow me to adopt the use of a loaded phrase here: when the Israeli government claims to be acting on behalf of all Jews, it is using them as human shields, redirecting responsibility for its own genocidal behaviors onto an already-oppressed ethno-religious minority. Given the historical desire of the Israeli government to gather the Jewish diaspora within its own borders, you can even argue that they have a perverse incentive to worsen the treatment of Jews around the world in hopes that it will convince them to move to the country that claims to be their savior.
I think that there is no "justification" for any antisemitism, anywhere. I also think that there would be less antisemitism if the Israeli government weren't so committed to slandering the Jewish people for its own benefit.
You do not deserve any insight into my personal life, but since you immediately chose to get personal about my friends and I, I will share this with you. One of my best, oldest friends is a Jewish guy who is eligible for German dual-citizenship as reparations for the persecution of his family during the Holocaust. I have known him for longer than I have been on this website, and throughout this time we have always discussed our political views honestly, even when it causes large and heated arguments. If he disagrees with me about something, he will make it clear.
The word that he uses to describe the Israeli government's behavior over the last several years is "genocide." He is among the 39% of Jewish people in the United States who hold this belief, a number which is rising. If we're making baseless assumptions about one another, I would assume that you are made deeply uncomfortable by the fact that your attempts to speak on behalf of all Jewish people are being undermined by the large and fast-growing segment of the Jewish population who understands that Israel is not acting on their behalf, and that no amount of discrimination against their people can justify the slaughter and starvation of hundreds of thousands of other people. I hope that you might one day realize the same.
When youre a kid youre like wtf adults are making themselves sick with poisons and when youre an adult youre like i need more poisons ASAP
as someone who remembers the patriot act and all the conversation surrounding it, it's a bit... of an experience being able to remember how many people pointed out that Terrorist was a politically convenient term which could be used to dehumanise and legally strip the rights from someone and that eventually all this would be used internally. and the response was 'nuh uh only browns with funny headgear are terrorists'. and then two decades of 'fighting age males' being blown to pieces at weddings because they might have, maybe, looked at a terrorist once. A week ago a head of state is black bagged in the middle of the night by the US for being a 'narcoterrorist'. And now an unarmed, random woman - white, citizen - is gunned down by jackboot thugs and before her body is cold she is, of course, a domestic terrorist.
If you are reading this, you need to know that the moment the US state needs to kidnap you, the moment a drone pilot decides you're in the wrong place, the moment you are bleeding to death on the sidewalk, you will be a Terrorist. Because anything can be done to a Terrorist.
