I need to put snaps on the collar overlap and do some pressing (mostly the lame because of running it under the machine for the hook and eye tape) but I got the shirt pretty much done! I'm not super worried about the hook and eye tape gaping right there because the mannequin is not quite proportioned right for me, that might be covered by the breastplate anyway, and if it isn't, I'll just unpick and sew that part again. Since the breastplate will cover so much of the top, any weirdness in that area won't matter.
I LOVE stitching in the ditch!
I do not like making collars though 😔 gotta do that next
This is the only thing that's going to get me out of the Fire Emblem cosplay black hole and it's fucking Clippy.
I would LOVE to have this done for Dragon Con specifically, maybe 2027?
This is the Clippy costume from the Windows95man "Paperclip" music video, and I'm obsessed. Saw someone with Clippy on their name tag today so I am taking that as a sign to add it to the cosplans.
I think I'm going to try to mimic the charm of this specific costume but maybe add a spin on it, I'm thinking it'd be kind of iconic with fishnets, but maybe keeping the 90's tennis shoes, and a fitted white bodysuit underneath.
I have to make like. 100 more of these.
Very unimpressed with mood fabrics customer service about this whole issue. Despite the obvious color difference, apparently the colors are "very similar" and they "can't tell" the difference from my photos, so I'd have to send the 1 yard of fabric back rolled, on my dime. I've never had a problem like this with any other fabric website, and I've only ordered from mood a handful of times. I don't think I'll be ordering from them much at all anymore.
In related news, we'll probably be seeing how well their faux leather dyes with dyemore, so stay tuned for those results!
I'll also say I wouldn't be as irritated if I didn't anticipate this being their response. Other people have complained that they've had this same issue with mood. So I was prepared for this, but I am disappointed given that this was $20/yard. If I'd bought more than 1 yard, I would have been really pissed.

Getting things going for Dragoncon, I've got all of the fabric and eva foam I need for Eirika thanks to the local fabric warehouse.
this will need some finessing but I'm excited to get to do my first booby armor, lol.
On a more frustrating note, the fabric I ordered for winter Ephraim's gloves (which shipped really fast, yay) appears to be the wrong color. I will say I didn't swatch it, but I've never had issues with Mood fabrics colors being this off. Like, here is what I ordered, which is the "sand" color:
And here's what I got:
Please tell me that I'm not crazy and that those are not the same color? The olive I ordered looked correct, and it was the same fabric type. I'm hoping once a human customer service rep gets back to me on Monday they will work with me on this. The label on it has the correct sku but says beige, which is a different color of this fabric. I personally believe this is the "stone" color though. So this order was really messed up...
I didn't have a great week and this was the cherry on top. Hopefully next week will be better!
I wore a chest plate for the first time!
idk if there's anyone conflicted on getting a chest plate for cosplay and wearing it to a convention! But I got one earlier this year, and survived two half days in it at Momocon (which was very hot and muggy this year) wearing summer Ephraim from Fire Emblem Heroes.
I didn't use any makeup or anything on it because I was cosplaying a Fire Emblem and they don't even have nipples, much less chest hair. I think the only makeup I would put on it ever would be chest hair but that would have to be a specific purpose.
I will say as a plus size person, the sizing was harder for getting one of these. And this one is tight but obviously wearable. Skintone was a bigger problem for me but I have a pink undertone and I'm very pale so that's always a problem with power mesh and tights lol. The arm bands helped hide the seams but an open shirt looks even better for blending. As a person with sloped shoulders I still had my typical problem of my shirt slipping off them when it was open (I wore a shirt sometimes. I didn't know if the con would be weird about it).
I did bind underneath because I have a large chest - I know that there are drag kings that wear binders and corsets under theirs. Obviously be careful and use your best judgement. I cut a few pieces away for comfort - the back of the neck was too high, and the other thing I did was cut slits on the seam of the arms. The arms were uncomfortably tight before doing that and that really helped with that problem. I freak out when I have tight things on my arms.
It's quite heavy! Like it's a substantial thing to pick up and put on. I had my spouse to help me but if you don't have someone to help you, that might be something to consider. Getting it off is much worse than putting it on. All the baby powder (which I did apply) won't keep you from sweating. It's a sweat trap, and it made my binder stinky a lot faster. If you're doing several masc cosplays in a weekend, it might be worth bringing multiple binders. I don't usually have that problem with my binder at cons but I don't tend to dress masc all weekend usually either and I did this year (plus the weather).
I found a bridal makeup protector (mesh bag over the head) helped keep my makeup from smearing and getting on the plate when I was getting it on and off. I'd recommend that if you don't want to do your makeup after getting dressed.
It was still more comfortable and easy to wear than my armor so make of that what you will.
How it started (doing my best not to pass out at the meetup) vs how it's going (blood sugar crash later that day on the floor of the Atlanta Margaritaville).
I'm very tired 🥴 Met some new people, did some fun things, bought some cool art, but I really want to go home now that Momocon has wrapped up!
Something I'm curious about.
To overexplain what I mean: If you didn't know the term "cosplay" until you were older, when you learned the term, did you then retroactively consider any previous costumes of pre-existing fictional characters to be "cosplays"? Such as dressing as a Disney Princess or Darth Vader in 3rd grade, etc. If you knew the term from a young age, same question applies.
Did you consider, or reconsider upon learning the term, dressing up as fictional characters (for Halloween, parties, etc.) as a child to be "cosplay"?

idk what cosplay is
I wish I could get more granular and overlapping statistics, like "your age" and "how long you have actively considered yourself a cosplayer" because I have a feeling that would change the way the results are read a LOT. (I suppose also "how long you have been going to cons/cosplay events" and "if you parents are cosplayers" to catch outliers like my friend in roughly my age group whose mom wrote a still really good furry tutorial in the 80s LMAO) I actually went back and forth on "how long you've been cosplaying" and "how long you've known about cosplay" but I feel like the latter is more to the heart of what I'm asking?
Back in my day (lmao), pretty much no one would have considered that type of thing cosplay. I first learned the term circa 2002? and did my first cosplay in 2003 (at a con), but things are VERY different these days. I've noticed that at least in help spaces, it's much more common for parents to be asking about making or buying cosplays for their kids or helping their kids with Halloween cosplays, etc., and I'm curious about how the term has been used over the years.
Maybe I'll make a full survey that can capture all the nuance I want eventually LMAO for now? Tumblr poll.
To even more overexplain, just in case someone misunderstands:
I don't mean "is it cosplay in some objective sense," I mean "did you personally consider it cosplay"
Definitions are slippery! This is why I'm asking. there's no official arbiter, and these things are edge cases that everyone defines differently.
This is purely to sate my own curiosity about how people define these things haha
Haven't posted the Signalis cosplays in a minute 👀

I decided I'm done sanding Reginleif and have moved on to priming. Since it's photographing nicely now that's all I need for it to move on to painting lol.
I need to make pom poms, spray paint the bells, figure out how this hat is gonna stay, and attach snaps to the ruff. Also practice the makeup...
The bangs are two-toned, I think maybe airbrush could have been better but I don't want to learn how to use my wife's. Anyway, good enough for a quick build I think.
Ruff is done (except for sewing snaps), and I've made one of the jester hat horns already. This one should be done in time for Momo
The main outfit part is done. I made a deal with myself if I finished sewing it I could get back to playing 👀
This is so fucking stupid 😂😂😂
