1980s: Trump's casinos were accused of hiding the black staff when Trump visited.
1989: Trump took out a full-page ad, arguing for the death penalty for a group of black men (The 'Central Park Five'), effectively putting a bounty on their heads, and plaguing them with a lifetime of death threats. He was sued by the Justice Department for discrimination.
1991: āBlack guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kinds of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day⦠I think that the [black] guy is lazy. And itās probably not his fault, because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is.ā

2011: Birtherism. Trump alleged that Obama was Kenyan based on nothing but skin color. He never apologized nor renounced that claim.
2015 (1): Trump called Mexican immigrants "rapists" who are "bringing crime and drugs" to the U.S.
2015 (2): Trump called for "a ban on all Muslims entering the U.S."
2016 (1): Trump called for a Mexican judge to recuse himself based on nothing other than his race. Paul Ryan said this was āthe textbook definition of a racist comment.ā
2016 (2): Trump regularly retweeted material from white supremacists and neo-Nazis during his campaign.
2016 (3): Trump tweeted a picture alleging that Hillary was Jewish, or controlled by Jewish people.
2016 (4): The Trump campaign adopted Nixon's "Law and Order" rhetoric which was based in racial fearmongering.
2016 (5): Trump told black voters "What do you have to lose?"
2017 (1): Trump asked a reporter to set up a meeting with the black caucus simply because she was black.
2017 (2): "...some very fine people on both sides" said Trump of a violent Nazi rally.

2018 (1): Trump called Haiti and African countries shitholes.
2018 (2): Trump referenced the trail of tears to mock Elizabeth Warren.
2019: Trump tweeted that four black and brown congresswomen should go back where they came from. Then attacked Elijah Cummings. Then Baltimore. Then Al Sharpton.

you can read about it in a few places. hereās one article on the subject, but thereās plenty to be found.
I want old aros so badly. I want a history. I want a future. I want tales of lives that I understand. I want to see myself in a future where Iām happy and comfortable.
But I donāt have that, so Iāll have to build it.
Iāve got a story!
When I told my grandmotherās friend group about aromanticism most of them didnāt understand, they were polite and asked a lot of questions, some didnāt really believe it bc well, people in their 70s are rarely that open minded; but there was this one lady that looked pensive and when the others quieted down she asked me if the name for it had existed long, and when I said no she told me about her best friend:
A 74 year old woman who had married young, back when my country was in a fascist dictatorship and women couldnāt have/make their own money, so their only hope was marriage. They lived together years, and Iām not sure if they had children, but as soon as it was legal for her to divorce she did, and, living in a small town, she faced her neighboursā questions and judgement: Was he a bad husband? Did he cheat or treat her badly? Was it the other way around? He wasnāt āman enoughā? And many less nice things.
Her answer to all of them was that her now ex husband was a wonderful man, and that theyād remain friends as theyād always been, because on her side thatās all there could be, because she didnāt find it in herself to love, not him nor any man or woman, but still cared deeply for him as she did for all her friends.
She now lives happily in retirement, traveling around the country with her friends, ex husband included, and also has a cat.
When the lady told me this she sounded doubtful at first, afraid she was appropiating but when I told her that the experience sounded like those on our community she looked so happy, and kindly asked me to write down the terms and what they mean on a paper so she could show her friend when she went back home, tell her that she wasnāt alone that there were more people who had united and have a name and are fighting to be recognised.
That day I realised something: That there are more of us than we know about, that in this age of information many of the older generation were still estranged from the net and among them there are aromantic people too. And that for those people who have probably felt other and wrong most of their lives, the knowledge of the label and community, the confirmed existence of others like them that feel itās important enough to recognise that feeling or lack thereof, can be just as healing, reassuring and important as it was for us, the newer generation who stumbled upon the term on the internet when we were teens.
The internet is great, of course, but if we want to find the older aros de have to look for them, because they most surely havenāt found themselves in that label yet either. And to do so we must share our terms and experiences and shout to the world that we exist outside the screens, that we are real. I know it can be risky or even dangerous but if we wish to find them, and hopefully make them a bit happier, itās all we can do.
TL,DR: There are old aros out there, we just have to find them by spreading our visibility, not only for us, but for them too.
this makes me so happy to hear! thank you for sharing
Ok so I donāt consider myself ace or aro but I just got pissed at a post so Iām gonna put this out into the world.
Platonic partners and friends ARE DIFFERENT CONCEPTS. Like yeah, a platonic partner probably does and should fit under the category of āfriendā also - just as a romantic partner should!!! But a regular friend probably isnāt someone you might plan to move across the country with and live with for a long time/life. With a QPP thereās a much firmer expectation of commitment and prioritization and depth/endurance/strength of relationship. I wish more than anything that my best friend could be my QPP but she is straight, in a happy relationship, and committed to that. Weāre still one of each otherās closest relationships, but while she has space for me in her heart and life as a dear friend, she does not have the space in her heart and life for me as a QPP. It would require space to be freed up that is, for her, in use for/reserved for a romantic relationship.
Friendships are great, and in the past, āfriendā might have been an adequate blanket term that included QPPs. But itās no longer specific enough for some people or some relationships. And some people want different, and in some aspects better, terminology - and that terminology exists! And theyāre free to use it if they feel itās accurate! Imo, itās similar to the bi/pan distinction that way: Depending on your definition, there may or may not be a difference, but some people prefer certain terminology and thatās completely their right!!! Itās not your call!! Instead of brushing people off, make an effort to educate yourself!
Holy fuck, this is like, the most basic of concepts for any queer person with a concept of empathy! Just because you donāt understand it doesnāt mean itās not true or real or valid!
So, rant over. Just wanted to get that off my chest.
Honestly, QPPs are (a) not just for aspecs and (b) whatever the members of it consent to the relationship being. Itās highly flexible. My QPP and I ā them an alloace and I an arospec and an acespec ā are indistinguishable from a romantic pair: we cuddle, we snuggle, we go on dates, we hold hands, we give massages, we sleep naked together, we kiss, we make out, we have sex⦠And we both consent to that. That doesnāt invalidate us as QPPs happily in a QPR. Itās nonromantic to usā¦. and that does not mean that itās shallow, meaningless, insignificant, noncommittal, or un-special. Itās queerplatonic. Romance is another of those constructs created by a human society that weāre allowed to challenge and bend the rules of.
Empathizing is hard. Some people have low empathy. Thatās okay. Itās more about compassion and respect than being able to feel othersā feelings. You do not have to understand it. Your lack of understanding doesnāt warrant disrespect and bigotry.
Reblogging this addition because the empathy thing came up on a completely unrelated post. I donāt have a great understanding of what being low-empathy looks like⦠and I donāt need to! Thatās not the point! But Iām willing to respect that (and to know that my phrasing was flawed). Literally thatās it. I can respect low-empathy people without understanding them.
You can respect QPPs without understanding them. Let people use their terminology. Social relationships and categorizations and the language around them are beautiful and flexible and personal.

the most important thing to me ever is bi kids knowing that itās ok to be 10% attracted to women and 90% attracted to men or 10% attracted to men and 90% attracted to women and still feeling ok to identify as bi, and still feeling like their identity is valid, and still feeling like they can lead fulfilling lives with both (or other) genders. like thatās just so fricking important.
Iām a bi adult and you know what? I needed this. Thank you.
itās also important to remember that it can be a fluid % like sometimes itāll be 50/50 some times 10/90 and then drift into a 45/65 or even 2/98 and itās still okay. Itās just where you are at that time in your life.Ā

every holocaust memorial day, i always ask people to keep romani people in their thoughts, but this year iād like to clear up some misconceptions that i see every year w/ a psa
romani people are not white. weāre south asian (from northern india), and each subgroup has a unique racial makeup of asian/white/etc, in different amounts. this is also why we vary wildly in physical appearance/skintone
we still face oppression.Ā what we face, especially in europe, can still be constituted as attempted genocide, as weāre forced to live in hazardous conditions or to give away our children, be sterilized, etc just for the crime of being roma
theĀ āg slurā isnāt just an american issue. the reason some european roma preferĀ the slur is because, in many countries, there is no term for roma that isnāt a slur, and itās either the g slur or the literal translation of the n word. iām romanian, and if you used the slur in my hometown, youād get slapped, since we just useĀ āromaā.
we live in every continent across the world.Ā some of the largest romani populations exist in south america, predominantly in brazil. they are no more and no less roma than their european counterparts, and they, like romani in asia, africa, etc all face unique challenges and oppression.
weāre the largest ethnic minority in europe, and yet have almost no political power, no land ownership power (in some places, weāre forbidden from owning land entirely), etc. with very few reputable charities- a lot of us reject charity by principle, as well as there being a general lack of education about us- the best thing you can do to help romani people is to just spread information, and help individuals when you can.
whoever came up with strapping a dagger to your upper thigh knew exactly what they were doing. they werenāt thinking about self defence.
