My Christmas tree! Every year I do a themed tree, and this year’s was fun to create! I made the rocket out of shiny poster board, the ornaments I got from the thrift store and repainted with glittery tempura paints to look like planets. The “exhaust” was created using some battery powered LED lights I already had, with polyester pillow fluff that also came from the thrift store. Total cost was about $3. I hope you all are having a lovely holiday season!

Astronomer Dr. Sarah Kendrew recently alerted us to this cool JWST mirror t-shirt from @cottonbureau, which needs the support of the startorial Universe to be reprinted!

I like how the lines & shadows on the segments recall origami, which is apropos considering that JWST will literally be UNFOLDED IN SPACE.

Even cooler - the image on the shirt was designed by Sarah’s teammate JWST instrument scientist Dr. Nora Lützgendorf!

Astronomer Dr. Fe Krauss made these hand-painted shoes a couple years ago, but she recently added LEDs to them so THEY LIGHT UP!!!! The (amazing, btdubs) images are the Centaurus A galaxy by Hubble, Spitzer, & Chandra and one of my favorites, the N 90 star-forming region & NGC 602 cluster by Hubble.

I hope everyone had a fun Halloween! I dressed as my favorite photographer in the solar system, the Cassini orbiter, in celebration of its ‘E-21’ Fly-by last week through the icy geyser plumes of Enceladus, Saturn’s sixth-largest moon. My hasty use of the Captain America shield for the Huygens probe turned this into something of a “Captain Cassini” costume.
